He y'all.
I just reformatted my computer and reinstalled Windows XP Home, the computer is a Dell with a Celeron M Processor and the BIOS are A05..
After reinstalling and registering windows, which went without a glitch, every time I start the computer it asks which Operating System I would like to startup..
They are both Windows XP Home, it appears that one is from the HD, and the other is the Boot Disc, which is not in the computer anymore..
I can't use the latter option, without the disc in, so I am wondering, how do I get the Computer to Startup the former (from the HD) without having the option?
I have looked in the setup, and the Boot Sequence is 1 HDD Internal, followed by CD/DVD then Diskette Drive.. Even when I disable all other options I still get the same options on startup..
Is there a fix to this, or just a blemish that I will forever have to tolerate? I realise it's not a big deal, but it's just kinda ugly looking, you know??
Thank you for you input.. It's always appreciated..

Re: Windows XP Home Start Up Question..
Tue, April 11, 2006 - 3:00 PMI figured this out.. It's all about tweaking the boot.ini file.. You can google it..
Pretty easy stuff, and it's nice to not have to deal with it.. -

Re: Windows XP Home Start Up Question..
Tue, April 11, 2006 - 8:10 PMYeah, it's a common problem when not starting with a fresh drive. The system defaults to asking which boot partition you want to use... Control Panels, System, Startup, Don't ask... (or, Advanced, Startup and Recover Options, Don't ask...)
What do you think of the HOme version? Have you used the Pro.? Domains? -

Re: Windows XP Home Start Up Question..
Tue, April 11, 2006 - 8:45 PMI had Pro before.. I remember after I had to switch over, (didn't have access to Pro) that I definitely preferred Pro. Although I can't remember why now, it was quite a while back.. I am not familiar with Domains.. -

Re: Windows XP Home Start Up Question..
Tue, April 11, 2006 - 9:05 PMI defintly prefer pro... more functionality, less "helpfull" popup balloons... -

Wed, April 12, 2006 - 8:22 PMHelpfull balloons... As nice as it sounds it has become quite the oxymoron. Just a reminder that the majority of M$ users need all the help they can get. Even if it is artificially intelegent.

Re: Windows XP Home Start Up Question..
Tue, May 2, 2006 - 8:02 AMThe quick and dirty way of dealing with that is just to uncheck the "Time to display a list of operating systems" under Startup and Recovery on the Advanced tab of System Properties. Granted it's not the proper way, but it works. -

Re: Windows XP Home Start Up Question..
Fri, May 5, 2006 - 11:21 AMQuick and dirty but the latter is better, cleaner. As far as teh difference between home and pro, It's easier to work pro since you hit mixed setup ups all the time. Of course I am the IT manager at my job, and the only home computer I use is my laptop which occasionally comes to work so... Anyway, aside from daomin supprt the addition of remote desktop versus remote assistance seals the deal for me.
