Favorite Chili Pepper Song

Soul to Squeeze. I like so much of their music, but this song stands out for me. I love the part after "take me to your river lay me on your shore/I'll be coming back baby I'll be coming back for more" where Anthony starts rapping. I'll usually try to rap with it and then lose my place eventually. ha ha, but I do a good job and am able to keep up for a little while and the song also makes me happy.

Strip My Mind and other meditations

So I saw RHCP in 1988 in a school gym, and thought they were a bunch of no-talent punk bitches who needed to go to a Grateful Dead show to see how it's done.

I would now like to amend that. These guys have risen above their roots. They have transcended grunge, and punk, and garage, and they have become . . . Led Zeppelin. The Rolling Stones. The Who. Fucking Motorhead. These are serious musicians. These are guys with a fucking clue.

I honestly have a hard time getting my head around how good these guys are right now, and how PROLIFIC they are. They're cranking out new music like nobody's goddamn business, and for the most part, it's A and A+ material. These guys are currently ripping the collective mind a new asshole, and God love 'em for it. They are, for this time, the heart and soul of rock and roll. At this moment they are carrying the torch that was pased to them by giants. And they are acquitting themselves wonderfully. I am on board. I vote "yes" on the question.

The instance of my ecstasy at the moment is Stadium Arcadium generally, and "Strip My Mind" more specifically. Now, I have been a musician and around musicians most of my life, so I am not a wholly uninformed amateur. It is a mark of genius when people can take a relatively simple musical construct and turn it into a weeping act of beauty so perfect as to break your heart. That's what these guys have done. It's a song that any garage band could attempt. But, as St. Augustine said, "for it is one thing to see the land of peace from a wooded ridge . . . and another to tread the road that leads to it." Good luck. It takes a master to do that to such a simple musical concept. Hats off, lads.

Whose your favorite Chili Pepper. I would say mine is John. He has overcome much and his solo work is rather bizzare like Frank Zappa. You can tell how much he brings to the band look at the albums he is on and the ones he isn't. I love the whole band though.

John Fruscante is performing tonight at 8 pm at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood. I'm going tonight and wanted to share with other Angelenos on this tribe who didn't already know about it. Tickets sold out last night, but I believe there are still tickets for tonight. I already bought mine and am stoked.

I picked up the Greatest Hits cd and Greatest Videos DVD this past weekend. I was pretty impressed. The cd has 2 previously released songs that I liked and also includes Soul to Squeeze from The Coneheads Soundtrack. I used to have the Soundtrack, but lost in in my travels I moved a lot. I was impressed with the DVD. It includes a lot of great videos with commentary, behind the scenes of their tour, etc. Has any one else bought this? If so what is your opinion?
