Re: As of 11:45PM on This Day....
Mon, September 1, 2008 - 3:09 PMI felt like I was going to a carnival on some planet from Star Wars with a bunch of friends and family from Rocky Horror and Mad Max. And as much as I really wanted to get involved in volunteering my first year I found that there was some much to do and see. Before I knew it I was getting playa dust blown in every orfice on Saturday and I knew I was hooked. Plans for next year are already fermenting in my mind of how to be more interactive...more artistic...more involved with the entire scene. **Note to self...eating playa covered pbj's and canned soups gets old quick bring better food!

Re: As of 11:45PM on This Day....
Mon, September 1, 2008 - 8:58 PMmy jaw still drops when I think of how the playa looked at night. and the day was like being in a new world at every new camp. i not only had a ridiculous amount of fun, but also an epiphany about how to live my life in a new way. thanks to the veterans who told me not to shave my butt hair. and if any of you were in that giant ketchup bottle handing out fries at 4am, THANK YOU. namaste, bitches

Re: As of 11:45PM on This Day....
Mon, September 1, 2008 - 11:41 PMI ventured out of camp about 8pm, after spending the day in camp collecting dust... watched the burn from the corner at first camp. and then wandered around center camp and cafe watching people return, then made my way over to the red Nose for the pilferman (?) and Mutaytor show.... then walked right by the Ketchup place on my way back to camp at about 4am.... Whew!!!! what a night, what a burn....
and, for all you now deflowered virgins, please, do tell, what are your thoughts, did ya feel better prepared? did ya survive the mid week meltdown? did ya love it, and is it now infiused in your blood...
your sophomore's now... hows it feel...

Re: As of 11:45PM on This Day....
Tue, September 2, 2008 - 2:26 PMWe opted for a Hawaiian honeymoon this year, but we did watch the burn on the live webcast, just to get a little taste of home.
I'm already planning my art project for next year, which sprung into my head the minute I read next year's theme. -

Re: As of 11:45PM on This Day....
Wed, September 3, 2008 - 1:17 PMCarnival. That said it. I to was mesmerized by the night time. While cashiering at Artica, I asked a group of young British men how they were doing. One piped in with, in the proper British accent, "It's a tip top time!!" That was a great line!!
I watched the burn while drumming on the edge of the line. Our lead drummer was drumming and taking pictures as the same time.
It's a lot to get there from Albuquerque, and because of the timing of Labor Day, and other issues, I probably won't go next year, but look for me in 2010!
Now named: Queen Rhi

Re: As of 11:45PM on This Day....
Thu, September 4, 2008 - 12:20 AMthe best bit of advice I got from a veteran about the burn was, when the crowd moves, move with them... awesome advice, and I ended up dancing around the man with everyone else.
the quiet of 20,000 people watching the temple burn was a thing of beauty and I loved the guy in the silver suit with the lighted sheild who sat behind me and quietly whispered sh, sh, sh to the yahoos. magical.

Re: As of 11:45PM on This Day....
Sat, September 20, 2008 - 1:16 AMIt is strange that now that I am back to the default world, I really am lost for words. How could I possibly describe what I saw, how I felt, who I met?
The most vital thing is that every time I think of the time I spent on the playa, the only thing I feel is love. And a little sadness and longing now that it is over. -

Re: As of 11:45PM on This Day....
Sun, September 21, 2008 - 12:47 PMBurn night was spent on the top of an elevated art car, with a huge group of my chosen family from Vancouver, and oodles of new friends. After the Man was lit up, I decided I needed to go on an adventure. I looked around and immediately connected with this fella, and we wandered around for hours, hitting the trash fence, watching the end of The End, and having a deliciously weird wander about. Who would have thought that two total strangers could connect in such a huge way?
The best part? Realizing that we can all contribute to, and live in, utopia for one week a year. And that we can take the wonder that it was with us every day.
