this is my first year and all my friends backed out because it was too much of a commitment. buuuut being the stubborn person i am i decided i wasnt going to let anything stop me from going. i even had car trouble a few days ago and paid $1400 to get it fixed in time! so im going completely alone. i dont even know anyone who is going to be there. this will be a very interesting personal adventure. the only thing that bothers me is the 12 hour drive by my self. o well its a small price to pay for the most intense week of my life. im sure ill make plenty of new friends to keep me company. see ya on the playa and hope i survive the week on my own! haha

Re: going alone
Sat, August 23, 2008 - 12:09 PMMy first year was totally alone. Camped by myself. I learned the importance of a table!
I flew into Reno, had to have two suitcase, one for Burningman, another for a wedding I was attending (suit, tie, etc).
I tried various garage sales in Reno, no bikes, so I got the cheapest bike at Target, and gave it away to a needy lamplighter who was staying after the event and had no bike.
It was great to do what you want, go where you want, eat what you want, all when you want. And change plans if you feel like it without anyone complaining!
It was my 2nd best ever time (this is my 7th year).
PS My very best time was my 2nd year, which was with my kids (21, 17 & 15), they loved it too! -

Re: going alone
Sun, September 14, 2008 - 8:50 PMI went alone for my first year too by choice, and it turned out to be the most incredible experiences of my life. I would do it again, but seems like 20 of my friends will be following me to the next one... -

Sun, September 14, 2008 - 9:05 PMI am with you. I went alone, after many years of wanting to go and everyone backing out on me. So I braved the trip, alone from FL, did the rideshare thing and didnt know a soul. It was the best thing I could of done. I am now planning on moving out west and a few freinds from FL will be going next year.... So so they say.....
Life changing best experience I have ever had!!! Hands down!!!
