    1. Aaron - lost in the corporate world. possibly a shaman

    2. Calgary

    3. no camp, we have a tent, that's a start right

    4. going with 2 buds, one the person who first told me of burning man existing in high school, and the second my soul mate (although we are not dating, nor will we unless she grows a penis, and even at that point I think it would be too creepy to get past) Kind of hoping to gather a caravan of fellow Albertans for the trip down

    I'm Colleen, or Naughty Kitty

    I am in San Diego

We are getting a group together this year and starting a camp...It's still in it's infancy, though.

I will be going with my partner, Mike and camping with aforementioned group of SD burners.

It'll be our third year, too, so I guess I answered out of turn.

I'm Chathaunt- other wise known as Screeeech Owl

I'm from Arcata, Humboldt County, California.

I usually like to camp around 4:20 and J, but you never know where I might show up.

It will be my fifth year if I make it. I hope to camp with fellow burners from Humboldt County, but we seem to be a kinda wishy-washy bunch. Half of us are too concerned about harvest to leave in the beginning of September. The other lesser half just started the Fall semester at Humboldt State University. I usually end up driving myself with a rather ragged bunch of burners, and a pile of crap that could barely be considered a camp. Got ticket, tent, water, bike- will burn!

And I won't be bringing any stinking boyfriends.

2 - Portland... by way of Tucson, New York, and Burnsville (Minnesota).

3 - I have a friend who has a friend who is prominent in Arctica... so maybe. On the other hand, there's always that RV option.

4 - Going with friends? Definitely. Partner? Ask me again in August. Alone? Hope not.

    Hello Shiva! :) And everyone!

1-who are you? Starlie (real name), Mediaeval Baebe (burner name)...musician, belly dancer, fire artist. Transformus (volunteer), Scorched Nuts (TCO), Recycled Rainbow (gatekeeper/head greeter). :) Been trying to get to Burning Man for years, and i do believe this year is finally it. *grins*

2-where are you from? Cleveland Ohio! Long bloody travel, but at least it's not out of country. ;)

3-do you have a camp yet or are you contemplating any? I'm not sure. I will be with a theme camp one way or another, but which one i do not know. Folks i'm meeting up with have one, i know folks in Big Puffy Yellow (from Transformus in North Carolina), and there's a third that's sort of a spiritual sacred space that i'm considering.

4-going with friends, partner, alone? looking for a carpool? Driving out to NV with my mom, actually. She's not physically able to do Burning Man though, so she'll continue up to Oregon to stay with my aunt, and i'm meeting up with a friend in Reno.

    Hello. :)

    Fire and Light,
    ~Mediaeval Baebe~

1-who are you? Linda. Graduate student, artist, costumer, belly dancer, musician, all around fun person

2-where are you from? Albuquerque, New Mexico, the land of enchantment

3-do you have a camp yet or are you contemplating any? I have no real idea actually, I might know by May.

4-going with friends, partner, alone? looking for a carpool? I have two groups of friends who have gone for a number of years. I'll probably see them. I'm not counting on my BF to be there. Carpool? love to. If anyone's from ABQ or on the way let me know!

After answering these questions I realize that despite a ton of planning, lists, and projects, I'm not all that ready to go. Dang, I hope I am by summer.

    4. Hoping to convince my twin sister and her girlfriend to go with. Would love to have the shared experience with my wombmate. Also working on best friend, landlord, other peeps. Will have a bunch of other friends there as well. Already have a wedding to go to on Wed. Might do the RV thing.

1- Mr.Powers a 3D animator and digital fine artist. I live for the outdoors, it's where I would rather be. If I'm not out workin in the yard or cooking on the grill, I am playing soccer or tinkering on something in the garage aka workshop. I do allot of biking and play on an indoor soccer team. I enjoy the hell out of meeting new people and love to have a good time on many different levels. ;P

3- No I plan on playing it by ear where ever I may roam when I arrive. I think I'll let the winds guide me to my spot, lol I will be totally self reliant so I think I could throw down anywhere and set up.

4- Right now it's just me an my wife with a few friends burning the sands of time contemplating joining us. Up for any sort of convoy although we plan on seeing the sights on the way West.

    1 ) I'm Zeiworg aka Holger
    2 ) I'm from Berlin, Germany, Europe
3 ) Orginally planned to go with Green Tortoise in their camp, because ahead of burning man I'm doing four weeks of RV vacation in California, and family will fly back to germany on monday. The euroburners camp also looks interesting to me, but I'm unfamiliar with (mostly) british style... Other camps might also be interesting, but I haven't found my heart in these yet. Ads are welcome :-)
    4) I'll come alone, either with GT or maybe some future camp mates...

    2. Whoops, already answered that. Born and raised in Norcal baby!!

    3. I think so, but it's up in the air

    4. Well like I said in number 3....I have a friend who said I could go with him and his friends but we haven't worked out the details yet. Hopefully there wont be, but there could be a chance that I might need a carpool or a place to camp if it doesnt work out. I'm scared!! I have no actual friends that want to go to Burning Man, which is a huge reason why I want to go......to meet people!!! The friend I might go with is a friend but I don't know him all that well...more of an aquaintance I guess.

Rob L- No burner name yet. Designer, artist, alien.
    Orlando FL
No camp yet but considering options.
As of now making the trip alone. I've met some other local burners but I'm not sure if they are making the trip. After talking with a friend (virgin) who made the trip last year I am considering Camping alone so I can take it all in, Do what I want, and not worry about anyone. I just read about Stag camp on Eplaya. I Kinda like the idea of being self sufficent but camping with a group. Any suggestions on other camps would be appreciated.
    • Re: Virgins - who are you?

      Fri, February 29, 2008 - 7:16 AM
Many camps - even theme camps, follow the self sufficient, but camping together model. Our camp was one such camp - we shared things amongst each other, but it was not official communal cooking or anything like that. It was just an offer of friendship.... there is/was no communal kitchen, no communal shower, etc.
Personally, I dont like the communal kitchen, shower, etc. I prefer autonomy in such things - I'm responsible for MY stuff, you're responsible for YOUR stuff. Just makes things easier.
That said, we all contributed to camp setup, tear down, and theme camp responsibilities - pre, during, and post playa - the theme camp is what unified us.

"I Kinda like the idea of being self sufficent but camping with a group. Any suggestions on other camps would be appreciated."

      Rob,
I just caught your post. :) I went alone my virgin year, shared the tent with my bf of the time, just the 2 of us waaaaaaay out in the boonies of the 'burbs (translation: all the way at the outer rings, in a very sparsely occupied area). I have to say that I found that to be challenging. It was a bit too isolating, and a bit too hard to be doing everything ourselves without help. The last year I went (2005) I also went with my bf (far better than the first one, I upgraded ;) and we camped in a small-to-medium very low key camp (Happy Camp). I enjoyed that much more. Partly because we had friends in Happy Camp, but honestly I hardly hung out with them.

It was more enjoyable because there were people around, someone to chat with over coffee, and we got to learn about some cool gear. Our neighbor was an AZ Burner we had never met before and he let us use his shower stall and play with his unicycle. It was just nice to have that kind of interaction and gifting or trading around camp. There are times when you're not really ready to go storm the playa, but you want some company while you get yourself together. One morning I hung out in the community shade dome and sewed my camelpak, and just chatted with whoever strolled by.

But at the same time it was a fend-for-yourself camp: you took care of your own meals and cleanup. They had a sweet shade structure and morning mimosas, but other than that there was nothing organized and you could come and go as you pleased. There will be no shortage of taking it all in. ;) you might find that you would like a low maintenance camp, where it's really just some folks staking out an area and camping near each other, but you don't have to be responsible for shifts or host events or cook community meals. You just help set up and clean up.

There's a directory of all camps on the BM site. And between now and August you'll probably find you've made some friends via Tribe or ePlaya that you'll want to camp with.

      hope that helps.

Your post helps very much. I like the idea of being in a group of some sort I just don't want the whole group responsibility. A low maintenace camp sounds like what I am looking for. As it gets closer I will be looking at all my options.
        Thanx Ms. Dyno

    3. No, and not sure how that all works. Never been to BM (lol, guess that's why I'm in the Virgin tribe) so.... is there a list of the camps? Do you have to ask someone? Lol, seriously, I have no clue. I have my ticket, so at least I know I'm headed in the right direction.
4- My best friend that I basically grew up with and her bf will be going (their second year) so they (and another friend I met at the SoCal Decom) will be guiding me through my first year. I think I will end up driving to San Diego (where they live) and then following them to BM.

Thanks to everyone for their posts, especially the seniors for helping us freshman :)

      Tiffany,
if you haven't already, join the AZ Burners Yahoo Group. Lots of great, experienced people there. And the AZ Burners host a Virgins Orientation each year. :)

as far as camps, yes, if you want to join someone's theme camp it's best to arrange that before the playa. nearly all have space limitations as well as fees (covering things like shade, food, generators). if you want to just camp near someone, that's ok to just wing it once you get there. If you go to the BM website you can find a list of all the theme camps registered for the event, along with their contact info. :)
