Bismillahi-r-Rahman-r-Rahim

Allah (swt) says,

"Sanurihim 'Ayatina Fi-l-Afaqi Wa Fii Añfusihim
Hatta Yatabayyana Lahum 'Annahu-l-Haqq"

"We shall show them Our Signs on the horizon and
within themselves until it is clear to them that this
(message) is the Truth."
(Fussilat 41:53)

Though the reading of the written Qur'an continues
among the people of our community we have neglected or
ignored the reading of Signs of the unwritten Qur'an.

It is important that Muslims grasp and clearly
understand that the revelation granted to us is both
what is recorded in the Book: Al-Qur'anu-t-Tadwini
(diwan-written) and Al-Qur'anu-t-Takwini (kun
kawn-what is).

The Prophet (sawas) it must be remembered was, among
other things, a contemplative, and were it not for his
having retreated to a cave and practiced austerities
(zahid/zuhd) it is up for question whether we would
have the written Qur'an since all of the Revelation
began in that cave on the Mountain of Light or Jabal
An-Nur.

If today we were to advise our students and
congregations to go out in the wilderness ~ to seek
out a cave ~ to practice austerities we would find the
oprobrium of the community and it would be said, "Ah
yes! This proves that some of the Umma are advocating
quietism and are running away from the "real" world.
(Media, music rap about about the real world~ T.V.~
etc.) As though that, in the face of what Allah has
revealed about His Signs being placed on the horizons,
in the heavens, in the earth, in the rain, in the
grain, in the beasts and in our selves is somehow an
unreal world.

So when we speak about developing an inner life I will
be among the first to advise students and members of
the community that, along with learning to read the
written Qur'an, that they learn to read (and hear!)
the unwritten Qur'an that, simply, is to be found in
the holy book of nature.(Al-Qur'anu-t-Takwini).

By refusing to separate the divine from the creation
Islam preserves an integral view of the universe and
sees in the arteries of the cosmic and natural order
the flow of divine grace or barakah.

We contemplate the divine as in a mirror reflecting a
higher reality~ a vast panorama which speaks to us and
reveals the divine reality.

I'm Darlin and I'm engaged to a fabulous Mulim boy from Persia. He's asked me if I am willing to convert and learn Farsi so we can have a traditional wedding in Iran. I've agreed. Now I need direction. I did a simple search and found an organization in Berkeley that offers classes in both Islam and Farsi. Are there any books, or sites that any of you can suggest to help me along with my studies?

Immediatly I ran into trouble at work. During a 15 minute break, I was praying while sitting in my chair. My boss saw me on the surveillance video and said that during my bowing (during which you could not see me on camera) I was sleeping on the job. So she fired me. I ask HR to have an investigation. They came back that I was praying and that it was allowed, but that I was still fired because of other reasons. In other words it was a coverup.

I am filing a complaint with the EEOC. And now looking for another job. My muslim friend says Allah must love me very much to let me see such a trial. I get to prove my loyalty from the very start.
"When Ramadan comes, appreciate it! It passes very quickly. Life itself passes very quickly, too, as does the time for prayer. Do not say, 'Ramadan will come again,' because a Ramadan that has gone will never come again. Next Ramadan is a different Ramadan. Maybe Ramadan will keep coming around until the Resurrection, but this Ramadan may be your last. Do not say, 'I missed that prayer but another will come.' Perhaps this prayer will be your last.... The reward of the Fast is the vision of Divine Beauty. The emblem of Ramadan is forgiveness. Fasting should be done with sincerity and ardent affection. Our blessed Master said: 'If my Community knew what success and salvation reside in Ramadan, they would beg Allah to let them spend their whole lives in that month!'"

Some may argue that the veil creates an obstacle for women, and it was always used as an excuse to conceal the existence of women in the community. In contradiction of the existing mentality of the community towards the veil and its relation to the Muslim women, Islam reinforced the role of women in the community regardless of her veil and with respect of her femininity....any comments?

Sectarianism

[3:103-105] You shall hold fast to the rope of GOD, all of you, and do not be divided. Recall GOD's blessings upon you - you used to be enemies and He reconciled your hearts. By His grace, you became brethren. You were at the brink of a pit of fire, and He saved you there from. GOD thus explains His revelations for you, that you may be guided. Let there be a community of you who invite to what is good, advocate righteousness, and forbid evil. These are the winners. Do not be like those who became divided and disputed, despite the clear proofs that were given to them. For these have incurred a terrible retribution.

For centuries the Muslim community has been plagued by the sore of sectarianism . Muslims divided into all sorts of sects , each believing in their own imam , their own books and their own beliefs. Every self "righteous" sect labelling the other as "Kafir" (unbeliever). Each considering themselves to be the true follower of Islam. But sadly we dont see many of them calling themselves solely muslims , we have Sunnis , shias , sufi's , salafis , brehalvis , naqashbandis , ahle sunnah , tarmezi's , anti hadith etc etc . There are so many that I've lost count. Iam sorry to say this but this "really" ANNOYS ME .

Living in Pakistan you get to see a lot of sectarian groups , I myself a Sunni not so long ago used to curse anyone who was a shia , Sunnis shia clashes are a common thing here , people ( believers ) kill other believers in their respective Mosques . SAD !

Quran talks about people being divided after the knowledge had come to them , before we go into this we gotta actually see what sectarianism is , is it solely restricted to muslims etc We all tend to make a mistake sometimes ( including myself ) regarding sectarianism in Islam by not including the people before prophet Mohammed , as Islam was revealed to them also .

[21:93]However, they divided themselves into disputing religions. All of them will come back to us .

We follow the religion of Abraham , the name "Muslim" was given to us by Abraham (22:78). So in actuality the segregation occurs at a much bigger level , but I will basically talk about people who follow Quran here .

From how I see it , the root of sectarianism lies in advent of writing of hadith . When man started taking God 's laws into their own hands , naturally disruptions occurred , but even before that , we have the famous incident of Hussein and Yazid etc. But I still think that hadith is something that started it all , the so called ahle sunnah started writing their own laws and another bunch of muslims didn't agree with them so they made their own hadith ( or vice versa ) . Confusion is mother of all crimes , if u have a singular source (Quran) which u have to follow and if u dont have a choice of moving away from it then there is a less chance of deviance ( even though it is still possible ) . Let's see what reason Quran Gives us about this !

[42:14] Ironically, they broke up into sects only after the knowledge had come to them, due to jealousy and resentment among themselves. If it were not for a predetermined decision from your Lord to respite them for a definite interim, they would have been judged immediately. Indeed, the later generations who inherited the scripture are full of doubts.

So factions and sects are a fact of life , does that mean that Quran tells us that its ok to be divided ? It doesn't !

[23:53] But they tore themselves into disputing factions; each party happy with what they have.

[6:159] Those who divide themselves into sects do not belong with you. Their judgment rests with GOD, then He will inform them of everything they had done.

[15:90-93] We will deal with the dividers. They accept the Quran only partially. By your Lord, we will question them all, about everything they have done.

[21:92-93]Your congregation is but one congregation, and I alone am your Lord; you shall worship Me alone . However , they divided themselves into disputing religions. All of them will come back to us .

[30:31-32] You shall submit to Him, reverence Him, observe the Contact Prayers, and whatever you do do not ever fall into idol worship.Like those who divide their religion into sects; each party rejoicing with what they have.

It should be quiet evident from the above ayats how Quran condemns those who divide their religion into factions, the only way to get around this problem is discarding every man made fabrications as human writing is not an absoloute only Quran is.

Sunnis use the following hadith to justify "their sect" by quoting their precious byAl-Tirmidhi Hadith 171 Narrated byAbdullah ibn Amr " my Ummah will be fragmented into seventy-three sects. All of them will be in Hell Fire except one sect. They said: Allah's Messenger, which is that? Whereupon he said: It is one to which I and my companions belong." Very Convenient i guess !to brand your sect the right one ! Whereas Quran says "Those who divide themselves into sects do not belong with you" so why would a prophet of God promote sectarianism? he wouldnt !

Shias use similar means , the only difference is that they Use Ali as an excuse to invent Islamic laws , salafis have some weird notion too . The simple fact how i see it is , that we are all muslims and this hatred and biggotry is not called for no matter what your personal beleifs are !

" The blood of a Muslim may not be legally spilt other than in one of three [instances]: the married person who commits adultery; a life for a life; and one who forsakes his religion and abandons the community."

This last instance shook me up, as it would any potential convert. If I decide later that Islam is not for me, my life is forfeit!

This seems to contradict the Qur'an where it says: "There is no compulsion in religion; truly the right way has become clearly distinct from error; therefore, whoever disbelieves in the Shaitan and believes in Allah he indeed has laid hold on the firmest handle, which shall not break off, and Allah is Hearing, Knowing."[2.256]

Is it wrong to use the word "GOD"?

Should we only use the word "Allah" ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The internet has indeed brought many Muslims of various backgrounds, languages and cultures into direct contact. The ease of information exchange on our computers monitors has highlighted the role of written communications as opposed to verbal communications.

Recently, one issue has raised considerable controversy between the readers. This is the issue of whether to use the word "Allah" or the word "God" when we are speaking about our Lord. Invariably, there seems to be someone who feels offended that we use the word "God" when we talk about the One and Only God (Allah in Arabic).

It is surprising to notice that many Muslim brothers and sisters do not know that the word "Allah" is the Arabic word for the word "God". Many of them believe that "Allah" is the actual name of the Muslim God! They do not realize that the word "Allah" does not belong exclusively to the Muslims and that it has always been used before (and after) the revelation of the Quran by the Arabic-speaking Jews and Christians when they speak about God.

Talking to English speaking people about God using the word "Allah" is very much the same like speaking to Arabic speaking people about "Allah" using the word God. It makes all the sense to show respect to the people and their language by speaking to them in the language they use.

Insisting on the use of the word "Allah" which is the Arabic word for God immediately creates the illusion that "Allah" is a whole different deity than God of the whole world. It creates a god that belongs ONLY to the Muslims, and takes the universality of Islam out of it.

Those who insist that Allah is the actual name of God are somewhat short on Quranic knowledge. Let us read the following verse together:

"Say, "Call Him Allah, or call Him the Rahman (Most Gracious); whichever name you use, to Him belongs the 'Asma al-Husna' (most beautiful names)." 17:110

This verse makes the issue very clear. God here is telling us that He does not have one specific name ..... In God's infinite Greatness, there is not one name that is sufficient to make reference to Him. Indeed to God belongs all the beautiful names. The Quran lists over 90 names for God and not just the word Allah. We can call Him Allah, we can call Him the Most Gracious, or we can call him by any of the beautiful names that are worthy of Him. Whether we use the Arabic word for the name like Rahman or the English equivelant which is The Most Gracious does not make any difference. The restriction to use the Arabic words to call God is not a condition set by God.

Moreover, if God wanted us to call Him specifically by the name Allah, He would not include the words

".....whichever name you use ......." in this verse.

Moreover, if we analyse the word Allah we find that it is a combination of two Arabic words:

Al .... which means THE

Illah ...which means GOD

The combination of the two words (the GOD) is nothing more (or less) than what the word GOD indicates in any language.

The word 'Illah' has been used in pre-Quranic times, and it bears an uncanny resemblence to the Jewish word eloha, which also denotes God.

Therefore, for anyone to claim that the word Allah is the personal name of God or that the word Allah denotes the God of the Quran must indeed revise their knowledge in the light of all the issues discussed in this paper.
And be just when weighing the scales or giving portions (in trade). We do not burden a soul except with what it can handle.
And if you speak, be just, even if it is with relatives.
And fulfill any oaths you have made in God's name.
This is what God prescribes for you, may you remember." (6/151-152)

Also...

"Say 'my Lord forbids (Haram)

evil deeds which are apparent and hidden;
and aggression without justification;
and that you establish partners to God;
and that you say about God what you do not know" (7/33)

As for the Food that is Unlawful:

"Say 'I find no food forbidden (Muharam) in what is revealed to me except that it be:

Animals that die of themselves;
Running blood;
The meat of pigs, for it is contaminated;
That which has been sacrificed for other than God.
He who must eat these for dire need has no sin, your Lord is forgiving and merciful" (6/145)

Please follow this link for details on "Dietary Prohibitions".

And for what is Unlawful in Marriage:

"Unlawful for you (in marriage) are:

your mothers,
your daughters,
your sisters,
the sisters of your fathers,
the sisters of your mothers,
the daughters of your brother,
the daughters of your sister,
your nursing mothers,
the girls who nursed from the same woman as you,
the mothers of your wives,
the daughters of your wives with whom you have consummated the marriage--if the marriage has not been consummated, you may marry the daughter.
Also prohibited for you are the women who were married to your genetic sons.
Also, you shall not be married to two sisters at the same time--except if this is already the case. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful."
Also Unlawful are the women who are already married, unless they flee their disbelieving husbands who are at war with you.
These are GOD's commandments to you..." (4/23-24)

Also...

"Do not marry the women who set-up partners with God until they believe..." (2/221)

What is Unlawful in Trade:

"...God has made trade Lawful (Halal) and forbidden (Haram) usury..." (2/275)

HALAL

All things that are not mentioned as being Haram, are, by default, Halal.

Yes, that is how simple things are. What God did not mention as being Haram, is ALLOWED by the Almighty for His servants.

We are NOT to play the role of God and falsely claim this is Haram or that is Haram because of our personal desires. We must REMEMBER that these words may only be uttered by our Lord and Master, and that He has already spoken.

Please remember this the next time someone asks you: "Is this Haram?", and tell them that if it was never mentioned by God, then no power on Earth can make it Haram.

May God guide us all to His light.

[ 41 : 44] If we made it a non-Arabic Quran they would have said, " Why did it come down in that language ? " Whether it is Arabic or non - Arabic, say , " For those who believe , it is a guide and healing . As for those who disbelieve, they will be deaf and blind to it, as if they are being addressed from faraway."

LASTLY ALWAYS REMEMBER

[17:36] You shall not accept any information, unless you verify it for yourself. I have given you the hearing, the eyesight, and the brain, and you are responsible for using them.

Okay, for quite a long time I've seen the name of the holy book spelled "Koran". Now here and elsewhere I see it spelled "Qu'ran". What's the deal? I know english speaking people corrupt the heck out of every foreign word they try to pronounce but it seems to be pronounced the same. And since this is an englishized word I don't understand why their would now be a shift in it's spelling. Is there some significance or reference I'm missing? Is it a combination of two words?

I know that power shifts can also cause changes in spelling or common pronounciation as they've done in recent years in China. Some words like the names of places get pronounced with different consonants being interchanged among dialects, such as "G", "J", and "K" depending on where you're from.

Anyone care to shed some light?

I was asked this question by a friend "Have you always felt a full sense of freedom & equality being female in your country?"
So I thought I’ll make the answer available for others who are wondering the same

Well
Freedom, that’s a big word, no one has freedom in this world. We are being dictated by someone or something (war, politics, rules, weather, religion, culture). We all follow rules made by someone or something, no one can say the opposite.

As for me I live in an Arab/Muslim culture, and yes I wear the veil (called hijab in Islam) on my head. I can tell you one thing it never was an obstacle to me I wore it when I was 17, which is late when u compare it to the age I’m suppose to be wearing it (12). I wore it when I fully observed and perceived its meaning and reasons. It was a wonderful feeling, it protected me, gave me more confidence (to some hard to believe).

I saw a show when I was 12 during my stay in Virginia; it was an interview with some rapists. They were asked why did they do it, their answers where shocking to me at the time, “ she was wearing a tight blouse”, “she was wearing tight jeans and looked inviting”.
And when I was 14, I went to wedding party, those days people were not very concerned in implementing Islam right, so you see girls belly dancing in front of guys, and I saw the look on the guys faces (almost drooling and un aware that he was going to drop the camera from his hand), I got more convinced of the reasons behind why Islam established a certain boundary between male and females within the community and at the same time not taking any right away from them.

This is for now I’ll continue later. See you and peace, any comments are welcome
