Hi there folks :)
I'm not ready to buy a snake yet, but I'm trying to learn as much as possible beforehand.
I was just wondering where some of you bought your enclosures for your snakes? I would like to get a corn snake one day, and I know when they are small you can just keep them in small plastic enclosures, but I'm interested in what people keep them in when they are older.
I have a Pets Unlimited nearby but I don't know if that's the best place? I could probably get a tank there easy enough but I was kind of looking for actual snake enclosures. Any online websites that sell them would be great!
Thanks :)

Re: Where to buy cages?
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 7:55 AMwww.animalplastics.com/ I have a couple of these the #T10 model 4'x2'x15" so taller.
www.boaphileplastics.com/ And some of these #421D 4'x2'x11.5"
I am not sure which I like best yet, but I like them both. I like the double door so with larger snakes I can close one when putting them back in and they are not getting back out from the other end. Also easy to clean. But on the Boaphile 421D I got one door for my smaller snakes.
Animal Plastics are heavier and you have to assemble them which is easy. Boaphiles come complete and are lighter. Boaphiles also come in black, white, and grey. You can pay more to get some wild colors too.
With the Animal Plastics definately get the keyed locks added to the doors it was only $12.00 more.
These are much nicer than aquariums, easier to heat, keep in humidity, stackable so more enclosures in a small area. Both are excellent products both have thier good points. Both are good people to deal with too. -

looks like the boaphiles will by my choice by default, as I don't think the other one ships to Canada :(
Oh well, they still look great! And I like that shipping is included :) -

Re: Where to buy cages?
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 4:09 PMoh oh one last question about these lol
Would a corn snake live happily in a L-30" D-24" H-11.5" sized cage? or do they need something bigger, smaller?

Re: Where to buy cages?
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 8:06 PMBoaphiles are one of the best you won't be sorry, you will have it forever.
I think that sounds like plenty of room for a corn.
We are getting all the same 4 x 2's so we can stack them. If I had smaller snakes I would get one of the coup double's in the 4 x 2 giving each snake a 2 x 2 space. And still be able to stack them with my others.

Re: Where to buy cages?
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 10:35 AMI just got a whole stack of Boaphiles (gently used, but still in great condition) and they are so wonderful! After dealing with glass tanks, screen lids, and dome lights for a couple decades, I am SO HAPPY with these!

Re: Where to buy cages?
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 11:43 AMoooo :) They look great! :D
How are they lighted and heated? I tried to find the info on the site but it didn't really explain it in terms I could understand lol (ie: non-reptile owner) -

Re: Where to buy cages?
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 12:46 PMI had a hard time trying to figure out heating and lighting fromt he site too, but the beauty of gettng and exisiting setup is that it is all there!
This is my setup:
1 x 421 Condo w/thermostat, and full length bottom heat installed
1 x 421T w/thermostat with X1.5 bottom heat installed
2 x 421T without thermostat with X1.5 bottom heat installed
bottom heat provides a "hot spot' in a section of the tank (without the worries of heat rock), and also since these are so well constructed and have very little heat loss, it keeps the entire cage warm (though there is still a cool end, and a 'hot spot')
I currently don't have lights installed, but since they are more for me than for the snakes, I will be waiting a bit. I am looking at some of these: www.thatpetplace.com/pet/pro...duct.web but it seems they have a recall on them for now so maybe it is good that I am waiting to get a light solution!

Re: Where to buy cages?
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 2:50 PMI'm glad I wasn't the only one :)
So when you say 'installed' does that mean it's built into the cage? Or did you have to buy the heaters seperate and attach them?
(this is another reason I wont be owning a snake for awhile, I don't know these things!) -

Re: Where to buy cages?
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 5:35 PMYou do not really need lights, I do not have any and snakes do not need UV like other reptiles. I just get the light from the room. I use a flashlight if I need to check them.
I also use the Exo-Terra heat pads Rainforest which gets up to 95 degrees
www.exo-terra.com/en/produc...forest.php
and the Desert heat pad which gets up to 110 degrees. www.exo-terra.com/en/produc...desert.php
We also use a reostat and thermometers to be sure of temps in the enclosures. www.thatpetplace.com/pet/gro...duct.web
You can have Boaphile add heat tape and you must put a thermostat on it yourself. My husband does not like heat tape because it is not UL approved. We can also put the heat pads where we want them. Also the exo-terra will not get too hot, they have the max temps I listed,
