Speaking as a Karaoke Host, I actually make a list of who sang what, and keep it on a clip board near my mixer. I try to keep the rotation based on the order that people sang the last time around.

Every host does it different but if I notice that people are always going up as a group I try to not put them up as often. Still a lot of the time they will only put one of there names on each song slip and since you don't always know their names when they come in, you don't realize you are calling people up from the same group.
