I have a tribe friend visiting this weekend, and we want to go do some singing. Neither of us want a place that is "too cool" that we won't get to sing much, but still enough people for it to be a hoot.
Does anyone have a suggestion? (neither of us drive so it needs to be an easy bus ride from the downtown area)
Thanks!

Re: Best place on a Saturday night?
Sat, July 10, 2004 - 6:02 PMI loves me some Leilani Lanes (sp?) on a Saturday night. You want to get there around 9-ish in case the rotation starts getting hot.
Do you have a Vespa Annetastic?

Re: Best place on a Saturday night?
Mon, July 12, 2004 - 1:42 PMWell, I need to learn how to drive a car first, then they will let me get a license! For some reason the cops don't like it when you drive without one of those things. Funniest thing...
So how was Leilani? We ended up going to China Gate. That cool Phillip guy was singing again that night. I think he is always there. Anyone know who i am talking about? He's asian, about 50-ish and really digs on the Tom Jones. He'd make a great front man for a punk band. Seriously! -

Re: Best place on a Saturday night?
Mon, July 12, 2004 - 10:21 PMLelani was great earlier in the evening and then sadly a pack of wild debutant-hopefuls appeared and things got a bit, well, you know, lame. It was mostly okay but the host there doesn't mix up groups like other hosts seem to... you know, pull some singers from one group from the pile so it's not just the same group of friends song after song...
overall-the book selection was 'okay' , the host was a good singer and nice, the drinks are cheaper than dirt-a bucket of 4 miller high life's is only $6 and before 11pm the rotation was waitable. -

Re: Best place on a Saturday night?
Tue, July 13, 2004 - 1:48 PMIs China Gate the one by Larry's Market? I agree, a good karaoke host has to know how to take singers from different groups. I don't know how they are supposed to do it, but if baristas can remember the drinks of 1000 customers a day, I guess there is a way! -

Re: Best place on a Saturday night?
Wed, July 14, 2004 - 11:32 AMSpeaking as a Karaoke Host, I actually make a list of who sang what, and keep it on a clip board near my mixer. I try to keep the rotation based on the order that people sang the last time around.
Every host does it different but if I notice that people are always going up as a group I try to not put them up as often. Still a lot of the time they will only put one of there names on each song slip and since you don't always know their names when they come in, you don't realize you are calling people up from the same group.
If your interested in checking out some of my shows, I'm at The Triangle Lounge on Sundays and The Crosswalk on Wednesdays. I'm also at En in Belltown every few Tuesdays. You can get the addresses at www.ckoproductions.com

Re: Best place on a Saturday night?
Thu, April 28, 2005 - 11:12 AMThis was an old post, but now I'm looking for a Saturday night location.
I don't have a problem with (shameless) self-promotion, but it would be nice to get an answer to the poster's question, which did not include Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Sundays.
Saturday locations?
Thanks.

Re: Best place on a Saturday night?
Mon, May 2, 2005 - 9:56 AMI explored without recommendations, so thought I'd share. I had a full night scheduled, so I only went to a couple of the karaoke places I had found on some karaoke site. (Are these ever up-to-date?)
Sunset Bowl in Ballard - never again. Yuk!
I got to Ozzie's near Seattle Center way too late. It was absolutely packed. Looks like it might be a fun place. Anyone ever experienced it?

Re: Best place on a Saturday night?
Mon, May 9, 2005 - 12:35 PMI just read an article from Seattle Weekly... not sure how old it was, but it listed Ozzie's as the best place for karaoke. Cool.
Or is it?
It went on to list Bush Garden and Sunset Bowl as being tied for second. Are you kidding me? I've never been to Bush Garden, but I was in Sunset Bowl for almost a minute before I had this uncontrolable urge to run screaming from the building. What a pit! People actually LIKE singing there? WHY??? Please tell me.
Third place was Rockaoke at Sunset Tavern. Is that still happening? If this is third to Sunset Bowl, I'm gonna need a lot of convincing before I waste gas going there.
Please! Someone reasure me that the best of karaoke (or even second best) is NOT at the Sunset Bowl! Yuk!
Mike
