Which The Slip number(s) did you get?

Here's my current list:

11,919	(lowest number I got)
22,191
35,958
100,002	(SO close to exactly 100k)
155,123
179,880	(sequential with next)
179,881	(sequential with previous)
186,230	(sequential with next)
186,231	(sequential with previous)
198,765	(98765)
209,700	(highest number I got)

That's 11 copies. I REALLY want to get one more copy in the 200k+ range, but I haven't been able to find one yet. And I'd kill for a misprint/unnumbered copy. It turns out that there are three different sticker sets available depending on what number you got, so 1-100k has the first set, 100k-200k has the next, and 200k-250k has the third set (though some anomalies have been sighted). Each set is three stickers, each representing one of the songs on the album. I'd speculate that the tenth sticker will be in the vinyl.

In case you want to be crazy like me, here's a link to pick up a few more copies :) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001B71NOI/catears-20

A purely fantastical post at this point - I would love to hear a "SILLY" album, by Trent in the vein of Pink Floyd's A Piper At The Gates of Dawn. That's one of the silliest albums I've ever heard.

Trent has done a lot of serious albums, he has proven that he is the master of such a genre, but I can't help feeling that he could make an awesome silly album.

His beats and even his overall style could easily translate into something that is just FUN to listen to... so "Where's the silliness?"

Lights in the Sky: Over North America 2008

http://lightsinthesky.nin.com/

Tour EP featuring one track each from NIN and all of the opening bands on the upcoming North American Tour. The NIN track is Echoplex, so there's not really any new material here, but there is something of extreme significance if you know where to look.

The back cover art of this release says "Seed Five" at the bottom. Why is this significant? The last physical release to have a Seed number was Collected, and that was Seed One. What are Seeds 2, 3, and 4 then? They were best-of collections released onto the Pirate bay in early 2006. They were uploaded by the same user who uploaded the Broken and Closure DVDs that we've discussed in the past. With the labeling of this new release as Seed Five, now matter how sure we may have been before, I'd say that we can conclude 100% that Trent was behind the earlier torrent releases.

Hi! I just got my tix for my first NIN show at the Rupp Arena in Lexington (I'm absolutely thrilled). Anyway, I was curious about what to expect. I've been to tons of shows before but they have always been hippie-type stuff. Generally speaking, how is security at the shows. Do they allow camaras? What is the vibe like? Does anybody dance or jump around or does everybody stay kinda still? I know there must be some sort of difference in this and the scene I'm used to hanging around.

Ticket Presale Info!

Copied directly from nin.com:

Presales for the upcoming tour are about to begin. Presales for the Lexington, KY show will open on Wednesday, with many more shows starting up early next week. We've been working very hard to get the best tickets in the hands of the fans, bypassing scalpers, ticket resellers, and ticketing agencies... This has been a difficult process to bring together outside of The Spiral, and frankly, it's a work in progress. The presale system you'll be using for this tour does everything we set out to do, but as of right now ticket purchasing requires a few more steps than we'd prefer. You can expect a more streamlined system for future tours, but for now, here's what to expect:

First, you'll need to be a nin.com member to access presales. If you haven't already, register for free at remix.nin.com (click "register" once you're at the site), or log in with your Spiral username/password (Spiral members: If you've changed your Spiral password since November 2007, you may need to use your old password to login).

Then, subscribe to the news feed, or keep an eye on nin.com for presale announcements. The first announcement, regarding the Lexington show, will go up tomorrow.

When you purchase presale tickets, you'll need to enter your legal name exactly as it appears on your identification. When you arrive at the show, there will be a designated entrance for nin.com presale ticket holders. Present your ID at the entrance and you'll receive your personalized ticket, which will have your name on it (no tickets will be sent out in advance). You'll then have to enter the venue immediately. This process is an effort to ensure that our presale tickets are purchased only by fans who are attending the show, and are useless to scalpers and ticket brokers.

More specific presale information will be posted tomorrow and in the coming days.

P.S. - purchasing presale tickets from nin.com will generally be less expensive than from public outlets.

If anyone here is on Facebook, I'm working on putting together a Nine Inch Nails app over there.
http://apps.facebook.com/ninhalos

Right now it's just a list of Halos that you own, plus (optionally) a music player for Ghosts. But I'll be adding more stuff too. I'm working on adding vinyl to the Halo check list and then a NIN news feed. If you add it, I'd really appreciate any feedback you might have.

Trent Reznor plays Rock Band

http://www.rockband.com/blog/entry/276614

Quote from Brian Viglione of the Dresden Dolls:
Well, there was the Rock Band console. That was pretty a funny, a real “hanging out with the guys” environment—Often times when there weren’t any responsibilities, people could hang out and play. At one point Trent said to me, “Sit down, man—This is your audition!” So we did “In Bloom,” “Say It Ain’t So,” and “Paranoid”—not any of the Nine Inch Nails songs. I played drums, and he played guitar—on expert, I might add. He absolutely shreds that thing. I only did OK myself but it was a very down to earth, social bonding experience.

Best Buy is taking pre-orders for Ghosts I-IV on Vinyl for $15. They retail for $40. That's 62.5% off. That's insane. It's probably a mistake, but I bought one anyway. Standard shipping is free. The official release date is this Tuesday.

Bands don't generally hang out in a studio with all their recording equipment set up if they're just practicing for a tour. This could be nothing... but I thought I'd point it out.

42 Entertainment has posted a summary of the Year Zero Alternate Reality Game:
http://www.42entertainment.com/yearzero/

It's a pretty phenomenal summary. But this does mean that the ARG is definitely over as 42 Entertainment never talks about their work until it is complete. The Year Zero ARG is up for two Webby Awards as well, "Other Advertising: Branded Content" and "Integrated Campaigns."

Saul Williams last night in Annapolis

A friend and I saw Saul Williams last night at Ram's Head On Stage in Annapolis. On Stage seats maybe 100 people at MOST. It's a dinner and a show kind of place so everyone is at tables and servers are coming back asking if you want drinks or appetizers through the whole show. For a performance as big as Saul Williams, this kinda makes things a little awkward for both performer and audience.

I felt bad for the opening act. They were great, but it took them until their second-to-last song to get people to get out of their fucking seats. We were at table 1. Front center stage. I could have reached out and untied Saul's shoe laces if I wanted to. When he came on, it was looking like it was going to be another sit-in, so between the first and second song, I conspired with the other people at my table that we would be the group that got everyone on their feet. They still didn't stand up until I did, but hopefully we made the band feel a little less like they were doing dinner theater :)

Saul actually made a comment along the lines of "Well this is awkward. Welcome to Ram's Head. I hope everyone is enjoying their appetizers. I'm Saul Williams and we'll be your entertainment for the evening." He was pretty funny about it. The friend I was with's girlfriend used to work for Ram's Head and she said that bands kind of get strong-armed into performing there. The owner of the club is partnered with a subsidiary of Ticketmaster, and they basically say "you can't play any of our other venues unless you also play Ram's Head On Stage." Kind of a shady tactic to get big names into a tiny little club and I feel sorry for the bands that get forced into it, but I can't tell you how glad I am that they do it, because last night was a fucking amazing experience.

The show itself was great. Saul Williams is a very powerful performer. They played several of my favorite songs and he did some poetry as well. Some of my favorites that I remember from the set list: Black Stacey ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRsgavuG4sg ), Tr(n)igger ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlLIIcY2eGU ), Convict Colony, NiggyTardust, Scared Money, Banged and Blown Through ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2Rwr86gdP8 ), and WTF! ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCse3bAJ6WY ). Toward the end of List of Demands ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1llNYAlYrc ), this little girl who looked about 13 came on stage with a mic to do the "wah wah wah." After the song was over, he mentioned that when she originally recorded the "wah wah wah" for List of Demands, she was a lot smaller. He introduced her as his daughter and they did Sunday Bloody Sunday ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keqAQk1YuOs ) together. She wasn't the greatest singer on the planet, but she was having a fantastic time and he was very visibly proud to be sharing the stage with her. It was pretty fantastic. For the encore, Saul came out by himself and performed Coded Language ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpEAsSzmS34 ). If you've never heard it, you should.

Saul Williams had a lot of really powerful messages to convey. To name three:

Ignoring Race is Racism
Be Yourself
You are Music

http://www.nin.com/uploaded_images/040408-705617.jpg

Robin was with NIN during the Downward Spiral era and is currently playing guitar for Guns n Roses.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Finck

The NIN YouTube page gives a full line-up: http://youtube.com/user/ninofficial
Alessandro Cortini and Josh Freese are also back. New to the group is Rich Fownes. Wikipedia doesn't have anything on him, but here's his myspace: http://www.myspace.com/twitchfrowers

Personally I'm disappointed that Aaron North isn't back. For me, he really MADE the show during the With Teeth tours. He just had a fantastic stage presence. It'll definitely be cool to see Robin Finck on stage though.

Lost Highway FINALLY out on DVD in Widescreen

If anyone cares, Lost Highway is finally coming out in the US on DVD in Widescreen tomorrow.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001152TL6/catears-20

A really crappy full-frame version has been out for a while but up until now, the only way to get a widescreen version was to import the German version.

If you weren't aware, Trent Reznor produced the soundtrack to Lost Highway.

http://www.sfweekly.com/2008-03-19/music/saul-williams-teams-with-trent-reznor-bucks-industry

No actual date yet, but apparently the physical release will contain seven tracks that were not part of the download album.

Personally I think it's cool that there will be new material available, but I wonder what Trent thinks of this. He was very vocal about being against Radiohead's model of "put out an MP3 album, get everyone to pay for it and download it, and THEN announce a physical release that's BETTER than the mp3 release so that they'll buy that TOO." He even hated it when there was more than one version of his own singles. Definitely not a fan of double-dipping.

As you may or may not have seen, an email went out recently advertising Ghosts that included the line "check http://www.nin.com for exciting announcements regarding live performances soon." Who knows when "soon" will be with regard to a tour, but NIN is headlining the Pemberton Festival in Canada on July 25-27.

http://www.pembertonfestival.com/

Tom Petty is also headlining. My wife and I are trying REALLY hard not to HAVE to go to this :)

Hey, so I spent a couple hours this morning setting up http://ninhalos.com. I thought it would be convenient for people to have a nice place to get an exhaustive list of all of the halos. I wonder if I was TOO exhaustive though. I'm looking for feedback. What do you like and what do you not like. Would you actually bookmark this and use it to fuel your collection?

I do have a couple specific questions about the content. Some albums (With Teeth for example) have MANY versions of each halo. I probably haven't been consistent about what I do or do not include thus far. How would you prefer it be listed? Should the main pages for each album only have the most common version of each halo listed and then have a sub-menu that gives you the exhaustive list? Should I include sub-menus for vinyl versions even though a lot of them don't even include pictures of the albums?

What about MP3s? Should I include those in the listings? If so, should it be just full albums or individual tracks as well?

Also, kind of random, if you had to pick ONE version of And All That Could Have Been to represent the halo on the front page, would you pick the DVD or the CD?

And to answer the obvious question you might have, yes, I make like 6% of the sale if you actually buy anything on there, and while I would certainly appreciate the patronage, I'm perfectly happy if you just use it as a personal checklist and acquire the music however you want.

Is he str8, bi or "gay"? Does it matter?

I don't think it matters but it's something I've always been interested in. Maybe this has been discussed on other threads before? If so sorry. I'm not sure. Anyway, all I know is what I read and most of what I've read about them is old news. He dated Courtney Love and I've seen him in a picture kissing a hot female. I read years ago that he said he hadnt had gay sex but that he could probably suck a dick. lol Something like that. I just wonder if he is dating or with one person or whatever. Someone that used to hang out at a bar I used to frequent told me years ago that Trent used to hang out at a leather bar in the French Quarter once in a while and would let guys give him a blowjob in the bar. I'm not sure if this is true or not. If I saw it I would think that was cool. lol I'm not sure if I'd want to blow him or not. I probably would just to say that I had. I bet alot of normally "totally hetero" guys would probably give Trent head if he wanted them to also. lol Like, if I'm predominantly homo, if Sade wanted me to eat her pussy and fuck her? HELLO!!!

NIN Film Festival

Taken from nin.com a couple hours ago (damn tribe for being down for maintenance):

Hello-
First of all, a sincere THANK YOU for the response to Ghosts. We are all amazed at the reaction for what we assumed would be a quiet curiosity in the NIN catalog. My faith in all of you has been restored - let's all go have coffee somewhere (my treat)!

Today we announce the expansion of the Ghosts project into the visual world. This record began as an experiment with us using sound as a means to describe visuals. Early in the project we thought it would be interesting to see what the community could create / collaborate on as a reaction to the music we were making. We wanted to keep the canvas as blank as possible for you, hence the lack of descriptive song titles and the primarily textural artwork and packaging.
So here's the plan: we've teamed up with YouTube to host a "film festival" around Ghosts. The concept is for you to take whatever tracks you feel inspired by from Ghosts and create what you feel should accompany them visually. You will be able to see all of the submissions, and a team of us (including me) will be sorting through them and setting aside ones we feel are exceptional. Eventually (within a couple of months?) we will present a virtual "film festival" with me and some special guests presenting selections of your work.
This isn't a contest and you don't win elaborate prizes - it's meant to be an experiment in collaboration and a chance for us to interact beyond the typical one-way artist-to-fan relationship. We've discussed some interesting ways this could go, including multiple installments of the online "film festivals," to broadcast TV specials, to a one-time live performance of the entire Ghosts record with your visuals involved. It really depends on how this progresses and develops.
We are all very much looking forward to what you come up with, and hope you enjoy the experience. Visit our YouTube channel later today for information on how to participate.
TR

This is the link to Lucians thread but per tribe rules a thread titled "Choose a new moderator" must be created and certain rules must be adhered to. Out of courtesy 3 people should private message the current moderator and ask if she wants to remain mod or if she would willingly just designate Elfie to be the mod. If she does not respond or post on the tribe then she is absentee. If she responds and says she wants to remain mod then that is her choice and her right regardless of how active she is as the mod. And her decision should be semi-respected. I wouldnt want to give up this tribe if I was her but you never know. It may or may not be that important to her. I dont really know her so have no idea.

This is the thread that Elfie will need to e-mail to tribe help after 4 or 5 people agree that he should be mod. So which three people are going to send a private message to Gabrielle? And this is also the thread to vote yes or no for Elfie or if anyone else is interested this is their time to speak up.

My vote is YES for Elfie.

Next.

When I first joined tribe I created a tribe called "NIN." Then shortly after I discovered there was one called "nine inch nails." So I deleted my tribe that had like me myself and I and maybe 2 or 3 other people. Could a NIN tribe be created again that Elfie could moderate and maybe anyone of the current six hundred and something members of the nine inch nails tribe that are true NIN FANatics could join the new NIN tribe moderated by Elfie and we can take it from there. I will go try to create the tribe again and if it works I will designate Elfie as the new mod of it if he wishes. If not, I will make a masturbation session and dedicate it to broken-ness and failure. Life sux donkey balls.

Last night, Trent updated his blog with a blank post simply titled "2 weeks." He's been working on what he's been referring to as a "secret project" pretty much since the instant that NiggyTardust went live. Is it a new NIN album? Is it another collaboration like NiggyTardust? I guess we'll find out in two weeks minus one day!

this is sorta funny for those NIN tribers that are humble and devout yet have humility intact. This is a Ray Stevens' or Weird Al style of lampooning NIN lyrics and bastardizing them into classic Christmas songs.

Trent Blogs about NiggyTardust

Taken from nin.com on January 3rd, 2008:

It's a strange time to be an artist in the recording business. It's pretty easy to see what NOT to do these days, but less obvious to know what's right. As I find myself free from the bloated bureaucracy of major labels, finally able to do whatever I want... well, what is that? What is the "right" way to release records, treat your music and your audience with respect and attempt to make a living as well? I have a number of musician friends who are either in a similar situation or feel they soon will be, and it's a real source of anxiety and uncertainty.
I'd like to share my experience releasing Saul Williams' "The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust" and what I've learned from the process. Perhaps by revealing of all our data - our "dirty laundry" - we can contribute to a better solution.

A quick history: Saul makes a great record that I produce. We can't find the right home at a major label. We decide to release it ourselves, digitally. Saul does not have limitless financial resources so we shop around for a company that can fulfill our needs. We choose Musicane because they are competent and are willing to adapt to what we want. The results are here: niggytardust.com

We offer the entire record free (as in totally free to the visitor - we pay bandwidth costs) as 192 MP3s, or for $5 you can choose higher fidelity versions and feel good about supporting the artist directly. We offer all major CCs and PayPal as payment options.
Here's what I was thinking: Fans are interested in music as soon as it's available (that's a good thing, remember) and usually that's a leak from the label's manufacturing plants. Offering the record digitally as its first appearance in the marketplace eliminates that problem. I thought if you offered the whole record free at reasonable quality - no strings attached - and offered a hassle free way to show support that clearly goes straight to the artists who made it at an unquestionably low price people would "do the right thing". I know, I know...
Well, now I DO know and you will too.

Saul's previous record was released in 2004 and has sold 33,897 copies.

As of 1/2/08,
154,449 people chose to download Saul's new record.
28,322 of those people chose to pay $5 for it, meaning:
18.3% chose to pay.

Of those paying,

3220 chose 192kbps MP3
19,764 chose 320kbps MP3
5338 chose FLAC

Keep in mind not one cent was spent on marketing this record. The only marketing was Saul and myself talking as loudly as we could to anybody that would listen.
If 33,897 people went out and bought Saul's last record 3 years ago (when more people bought CDs) and over 150K - five times as many - sought out this new record, that's great - right?
I have to assume the people knowing about this project must either be primarily Saul or NIN fans, as there was very little media coverage outside our direct influence. If that assumption is correct - that most of the people that chose to download Saul's record came from his or my own fan-base - is it good news that less than one in five feel it was worth $5? I'm not sure what I was expecting but that percentage - primarily from fans - seems disheartening.
Add to that: we spent too much (correction, I spent too much) making the record utilizing an A-list team and studio, Musicane fees, an old publishing deal, sample clearance fees, paying to give the record away (bandwidth costs), and nobody's getting rich off this project.

But...
Saul's music is in more peoples' iPods than ever before and people are interested in him. He'll be touring throughout the year and we will continue to get the word out however we can.

So - if you're an artist looking to utilize this method of distribution, make of these figures what you will and hopefully this info is enlightening.

Best,
TR

NiggyTardust Roundup

Lots of news on the NiggyTardust front.

----------------------------------

On January 3rd, Trent posted a lengthy blog about the results of the online sales of NiggyTardust. It's long, but there's no archive on nin.com, so I've copied the post in full here:
http://tribes.tribe.net/0f79a752-76c7-40c1-af74-896dc9e3c65f/thread/54c3d7fc-d192-477d-b5e9-adbbd89c32a8?newpostingid=795295b2-f682-4e09-a538-850998abae3c#795295b2-f682-4e09-a538-850998abae3c

To summarize just the numbers:

Saul's previous record was released in 2004 and has sold 33,897 copies.

As of 1/2/08,
154,449 people chose to download Saul's new record.
28,322 of those people chose to pay $5 for it, meaning:
18.3% chose to pay.

Of those paying,

3220 chose 192kbps MP3
19,764 chose 320kbps MP3
5338 chose FLAC

Trent said he felt "disheartened" by the fact that only 18.3% chose to pay. Personally I think those numbers are GREAT, especially considering that a lot of people (including myself) probably purchased it on one computer and then downloaded it for free on one or two others. He does give credit to the fact that Saul's music is now on thousands of iPods that it wouldn't have been on otherwise. More people are hearing his music, which is what's truly important.

----------------------------------

On January 10th, cnet posted an interview with Trent regarding NiggyTardust and the above nin.com post:
http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9847788-1.html

Trent talks about why the numbers disappointed him and his general thoughts on the music industry as it stands now and what's going on with nin. Great interview.

----------------------------------

On January 11th, cnet posted an interview with Saul Williams on the same topics:
http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9848536-1.html

Saul is MUCH happier than Trent is with the results. He jokingly describes Trent as "the king of emo" suggesting that's why he's not as happy with the results as he should be. Another really great interview.

----------------------------------

Today, January 15th, yahoo.com debuted the video for Sunday Bloody Sunday:
http://music.yahoo.com/ar-298837---Saul-Williams
Scroll down the page a bit to find the link to the video. When the new window pops up, you can adjust the video quality via the link in the top-right corner.

Fucking fantastic. I can't wait to be able to obtain a truly high-quality version.

The above interview is great. Try to forgive all the transcription errors. I'm sure you can figure out the mistakes on your own. It's still an excellent interview. It's 11 pages long though. If you don't feel like you've got the time to read all that, there's a more condensed summary of mostly just the ARG-related stuff here:

I really recommend the full interview though. It's incredibly informative.

As I am sure you have noticed, our current moderator "Gabrielle," has not posted to this tribe in years. I think it's time to change moderators and I would like to nominate Elfie as our new NIN spiritual leader! He has been on top of dispensing NIN information and posting insightful threads for a very long time now. He deserves to be our NIN tribe Moderator.

Of special note is the "pirate robot midget" remix which was a fan remix that Trent thought was fantastic and asked the remixer if he could put it on this album. A fan remix section of nin.com will also be opened on the day of release at remix.nin.com. I'll let you know as soon as I start seeing websites taking pre-orders for any of the above formats.

Holy Shit. This is by far one of the best songs I've heard in a long time. I've been playing it on repeat for like the last 24-hours. It's fucking awesome. The $5 for NiggyTardust! is worth it for this song alone, but if you don't believe me, just go download it for free:

http://niggytardust.com/saulwilliams/download

Even if the rest of the album doesn't fit your particular taste, you will not regret your download if you can add Sunday Bloody Sunday to your playlist.

Also, here is a fantastic interview with Trent and Saul:
http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2007/10/trent_reznor_and_saul_williams.html

My favorite quote from Trent in regard to how much he paid for Radiohead's latest release: "I bought the physical one, so I spent a whopping $80. [Pauses.] But, then I re-bought it and paid $5,000, because I really felt that I need to support the arts, so people could follow in my footsteps."

House Passes Thought Crime Prevention Bill

here is a little bit of dark cut and paste for ya'll. Dude - we're moving toward year zero at an alarming rate....

call your senator.

Source: Rogue Government - Lee Rogers

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed HR 1955 titled the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007. This bill is one of the most blatant attacks against the Constitution yet and actually defines thought crimes as homegrown terrorism. If passed into law, it will also establish a commission and a Center of Excellence to study and defeat so called thought criminals. Unlike previous anti-terror legislation, this bill specifically targets the civilian population of the United States and uses vague language to define homegrown terrorism. Amazingly, 404 of our elected representatives from both the Democrat and Republican parties voted in favor of this bill. There is little doubt that this bill is specifically targeting the growing patriot community that is demanding the restoration of the Constitution.

First let’s take a look at the definitions of violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism as defined in Section 899A of the bill.

The definition of violent radicalization uses vague language to define this term of promoting any belief system that the government considers to be an extremist agenda. Since the bill doesn’t specifically define what an extremist belief system is, it is entirely up to the interpretation of the government. Considering how much the government has done to destroy the Constitution they could even define Ron Paul supporters as promoting an extremist belief system. Literally, the government according to this definition can define whatever they want as an extremist belief system. Essentially they have defined violent radicalization as thought crime. The definition as defined in the bill is shown below.

`(2) VIOLENT RADICALIZATION- The term `violent radicalization' means the process of adopting or promoting an extremist belief system for the purpose of facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change.

The definition of homegrown terrorism uses equally vague language to further define thought crime. The bill includes the planned use of force or violence as homegrown terrorism which could be interpreted as thinking about using force or violence. Not only that but the definition is so vaguely defined, that petty crimes could even fall into the category of homegrown terrorism. The definition as defined in the bill is shown below.

`(3) HOMEGROWN TERRORISM- The term `homegrown terrorism' means the use, planned use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual born, raised, or based and operating primarily within the United States or any possession of the United States to intimidate or coerce the United States government, the civilian population of the United States, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.

Section 899B of the bill goes over the findings of Congress as it pertains to homegrown terrorism. Particularly alarming is that the bill mentions the Internet as a main source for terrorist propaganda. The bill even mentions streams in obvious reference to many of the patriot and pro-constitution Internet radio networks that have been formed. It also mentions that homegrown terrorists span all ages and races indicating that the Congress is stating that everyone is a potential terrorist. Even worse is that Congress states in their findings that they should look at draconian police states like Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom as models to defeat homegrown terrorists. Literally, these findings of Congress fall right in line with the growing patriot community.

The biggest joke of all is that this section also says that any measure to prevent violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism should not violate the constitutional rights of citizens. However, the definition of violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism as they are defined in section 899A are themselves unconstitutional. The Constitution does not allow the government to arrest people for thought crimes, so any promises not to violate the constitutional rights of citizens is already broken by their own definitions.

`SEC. 899B. FINDINGS.

`The Congress finds the following:

`(1) The development and implementation of methods and processes that can be utilized to prevent violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence in the United States is critical to combating domestic terrorism.

`(2) The promotion of violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence exists in the United States and poses a threat to homeland security.

`(3) The Internet has aided in facilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism process in the United States by providing access to broad and constant streams of terrorist-related propaganda to United States citizens.

`(4) While the United States must continue its vigilant efforts to combat international terrorism, it must also strengthen efforts to combat the threat posed by homegrown terrorists based and operating within the United States.

`(5) Understanding the motivational factors that lead to violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence is a vital step toward eradicating these threats in the United States.

`(6) The potential rise of self radicalized, unaffiliated terrorists domestically cannot be easily prevented through traditional Federal intelligence or law enforcement efforts, and requires the incorporation of State and local solutions.

`(7) Individuals prone to violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence span all races, ethnicities, and religious beliefs, and individuals should not be targeted based solely on race, ethnicity, or religion.

`(8) Any measure taken to prevent violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence and homegrown terrorism in the United States should not violate the constitutional rights, civil rights and civil liberties of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents.

`(9) Certain governments, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia have significant experience with homegrown terrorism and the United States can benefit from lessons learned by those nations.

Section 899C calls for a commission on the prevention of violent radicalization and ideologically based violence. The commission will consist of ten members appointed by various individuals that hold different positions in government. Essentially, this is a commission that will examine and report on how they are going to deal with violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism. So basically, the commission is being formed specifically on how to deal with thought criminals in the United States. The bill requires that the commission submit their final report 18 months following the commission’s first meeting as well as submit interim reports every 6 months leading up to the final report. Below is the bill’s defined purpose of the commission. Amazingly they even define one of the purposes of the commission to determine the causes of lone wolf violent radicalization.

(b) Purpose- The purposes of the Commission are the following:

`(1) Examine and report upon the facts and causes of violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence in the United States, including United States connections to non-United States persons and networks, violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence in prison, individual or `lone wolf' violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence, and other faces of the phenomena of violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence that the Commission considers important.

`(2) Build upon and bring together the work of other entities and avoid unnecessary duplication, by reviewing the findings, conclusions, and recommendations of--

`(A) the Center of Excellence established or designated under section 899D, and other academic work, as appropriate;

`(B) Federal, State, local, or tribal studies of, reviews of, and experiences with violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence; and

`(C) foreign government studies of, reviews of, and experiences with violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence.

Section 899D of the bill establishes a Center of Excellence for the Study of Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism in the United States. Essentially, this will be a Department of Homeland Security affiliated institution that will study and determine how to defeat thought criminals.

Section 899E of the bill discusses how the government is going to defeat violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism through international cooperation. As stated in the findings section earlier in the legislation, they will unquestionably seek the advice of countries with draconian police states like the United Kingdom to determine how to deal with this growing threat of thought crime.

Possibly the most ridiculous section of the bill is Section 899F which states how they plan on protecting civil rights and civil liberties while preventing ideologically based violence and homegrown terrorism. Here is what the section says.

`SEC. 899F. PROTECTING CIVIL RIGHTS AND CIVIL LIBERTIES WHILE PREVENTING IDEOLOGICALLY-BASED VIOLENCE AND HOMEGROWN TERRORISM.

`(a) In General- The Department of Homeland Security's efforts to prevent ideologically-based violence and homegrown terrorism as described herein shall not violate the constitutional rights, civil rights, and civil liberties of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents.

`(b) Commitment to Racial Neutrality- The Secretary shall ensure that the activities and operations of the entities created by this subtitle are in compliance with the Department of Homeland Security's commitment to racial neutrality.

`(c) Auditing Mechanism- The Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Officer of the Department of Homeland Security will develop and implement an auditing mechanism to ensure that compliance with this subtitle does not result in a disproportionate impact, without a rational basis, on any particular race, ethnicity, or religion and include the results of its audit in its annual report to Congress required under section 705.'.

(b) Clerical Amendment- The table of contents in section 1(b) of such Act is amended by inserting at the end of the items relating to title VIII the following:

It states in the first subsection that in general the efforts to defeat thought crime shall not violate the constitutional rights, civil rights and civil liberties of the United States citizens and lawful permanent residents. How does this protect constitutional rights if they use vague language such as in general that prefaces the statement? This means that the Department of Homeland Security does not have to abide by the Constitution in their attempts to prevent so called homegrown terrorism.

This bill is completely insane. It literally allows the government to define any and all crimes including thought crime as violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism. Obviously, this legislation is unconstitutional on a number of levels and it is clear that all 404 representatives who voted in favor of this bill are traitors and should be removed from office immediately. The treason spans both political parties and it shows us all that there is no difference between them. The bill will go on to the Senate and will likely be passed and signed into the law by George W. Bush. Considering that draconian legislation like the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act have already been passed, there seems little question that this one will get passed as well. This is more proof that our country has been completely sold out by a group of traitors at all levels of government.

The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!

It was announced on http://nin.com today that Saul Williams's latest album, which Trent produced, will be available in full as a free download from http://niggytardust.com on November 1st. The free version is 192kbps. You can pay $5 for a 192Kbps, 320Kbps, or FLAC version if you so choose. Trent has expressed that this is the way he wishes he could have released Year Zero, so if you want to see this kind of release for the next NIN album, here's a good opportunity to voice your opinion with your wallet.

If you don't remember who Saul Williams is, he did the strangest Survivalism remix you've ever heard. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check his MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/saulwilliams . It's the first track on the page right now. This was also available as the B-Side to the Survivalism vinyl single. He is also credited for a Survivalism remix on the upcoming Year Zero Remixed (screw leet speak) album. I'm not sure if this is the same remix as before, but I'm hoping it is so I can get a physical copy of it other than on vinyl.

Saul has given Trent a LOT of credit on this album, so expect to hear a lot of his influence (and vocals) on it, but try not to be frightened that you're listening to a Hip Hop album. It's okay. I promise not to tell your friends.

so as not to clutter the moderator thread, I thought I'd answer the morse code question here. I don't know of any software that'll automatically decode morse code, but if you can slow down the audio, you can do the decoding yourself. Here's a morse code chart for reference:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Intcode.png

As for how to slow down the audio, I use Adobe Audition for all of my audio editing, but it's not free. Is there a particular song you're trying to decode? It might have already been done before and I could just tell you what the result is :)

Below is what I sent to Gabrielle in private message and cut and pasted it here for you guys. I didnt want to post it on the Choose a New Moderator thread as technically it is against TOU rules to post private messages. And if she doesnt respond we want the choose a new moderator thread to be effective in convincing Tribe management to designate Elfie to the post.

Cheers!

There are some people on the nine inch nails tribe that say you havent posted anything in there for a long time and seem to be absentee as moderator. Some of us would like Elfie to be moderator if you are no longer interested in the post. Elfie is great and would be a fantastic moderator. It's your tribe so you can obviously do whatever you want but some of us would really like Elfie to become moderator. We would appreciate a response to this private message or a response on the tribe on the thread titled "Choose a new moderator."

Hopefully you will not be offended by this. It has become an issue only because you havent posted on the tribe for quite some time and Elfie has become a true leader of sorts for us all. The nine inch nails tribe is the Tribe based fan club for NIN and Lucian nominated Elfie to be the new President ( moderator ) of it. Others of us are casting our votes.

If you wish to remain moderator of your tribe that is obviously your choice and right as well. But the fact that you havent posted anything for a long time makes it seem like you arent interested in moderating it anymore. Please let us know your thoughts about this. If we dont hear back from you within a week we will assume you are officially absentee and request from Tribe management that Elfie be designated the new moderator of the nine in nails tribe.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Mr. M

"Hello everyone. I've waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label. I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate. Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008. Exciting times, indeed."

BAND TRIBES WAKE UP CALL
BAND TRIBES BOOSTER
Why is it that soooo many band tribes have gone cold?
I mean you would think there would be plenty to talk about in these tribes
Tour dates....quotes...interveiws...photo's...lyrics...interpretations..guter Tab...events....you-tube links...myspace links...wiki....homepage links....ect.
here maybe this will help
http://www.songmeanings.net/artist.php?aid=249
http://www.songfacts.com/search_fact.php?artistsearch=Stone%20Temple%20Pilots

It is hardly a borring subject matter to honner(worship) you fav. band
I just don't get it...myspace really is kicken tribes ass in this department
Also it would be cool if some of these tribe made an effort to reach out to the artest themselves
I know they are busy...but I'm sure they would be flattered
and who knows when they might show up in your tribe...it could happen

here are some cool band tribes I've found
http://tribes.tribe.net/20e645e8-4c15-4c14-9244-31850725a277/thread/fc3ebef9-edc3-46f9-b974-83b70fcf4c06
In some cases these tribes have been very hard to find
If you know of some band tribes please post links here

http://tribes.tribe.net/20e645e8-4c15-4c14-9244-31850725a277/thread/fc3ebef9-edc3-46f9-b974-83b70fcf4c06

perhaps this will serve a module for band links that we can all re-fer back to
Listing of band tribes

I thought I'd let everyone know that cover art for the Year Zero Remixed album has been released. It's on nin.com at this link, but I'll add it to the tribe gallery too:
http://yearzero.nin.com/remix/halo25_cover.jpg

A couple of artists have been announced as doing remixes. The one I'm most excited about is The Faint remixing Meet Your Master. I LOVE The Faint, so I'm VERY excited about this one. Ladytron will be doing two remixes. Also doing remixes (one each) are: Bill Laswell, Christian Fennesz, Sam Foga (of Interpol), Stephen Morris (of New Order), and Saul Williams. There's also rumor of some fan remixes showing up on the disc, but I haven't seen anything official in that regard.

Favorite New Track?

other than the ones that were released during the ARG, I think my favorite new track has got to be Capital G. I know it's the second single so I'm SUPPOSED to like it, but so what? hehe I think The Warning and God Given are tied for second. But man, that moment in the Good Solider... "and the bass goes BOMB" is just awesome. So much great stuff in here.

I've been listening to the ARG-released tracks to much to compare them to the rest of the album without bias :p

Capital G single update from the Smokeys

Hey all! Still honeymooning, but I thought I should updated with some important info. Via his latest update on nin.com, Trent seems to be implying that there will NOT be a CD single for Capital G, but he has very directly stated that there WILL be a full-length remix album. Check the post here:

http://www.nin.com/tr/

A recent post on the hotline has also stated that distributors are reporting the definitive cancellation of the Capital G CD single. The 9" vinyl IS still coming, but I predict a huge jump in the price of the promo CD singles on eBay. You know my birthday is coming up, right? ;)

Pretty Hate Machine - "How could you do this to me? I want to die...."
Broken - "You fucking asshole! I LIKE it in Hell now"
Fixed- "@#$%^&(+_+)(*&^%#$@$%^&**()P+_)(*&^%$#!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The Downward Spiral -"Now it's time for YYYYYOOOOOOOUUUUUUUU to die."
The Fragile -"I'm going to ENJOY watching you die."
The Fragile Part 2-"I told my friends about it, and we were all laughing."
With Teeth-"I crave new blood."
I don't have one for Year Zero yet.
Anyone else?
