Artist Community in Vegas?

My wife and I are moving to Las Vegas in about two week and are looking for the "artsy neighborhood" there. Most cities have neighborhoods that cater to the local artist community. I'm a dj/musician and my wife is a photographer. We are vegetarian and while we do have a car, we choose to use mass-transit as much as possible. She will be attending CCSN while I'm likely to attend UNLV. We enjoy going to coffeehouses and eating at small-local cafe's. We are looking at apartments around the Paradise area near UNLV as that is where I'm most familiar. But we would like find out about other neighborhoods to explore.

We've found that all the natural food stores (Trader Joes, Whole Foods, etc) are located West of the i-15 and many coffeehouses are located just west of downtown. Even the CCSN Campus is located in NLV. So anyway, if you could help with general locations of where some places where we should look, if any. We would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

you could try downtown tonight for first friday. a good place to start is just off of charleston and las vegas blvd at the art factory and there is an awesome little italian restraunt inside. there are a lot of local bands that play and you can just walk to all the places around there. i would suggest going when the sun goes down.

Recently, like 10 days ago, I relocated here for work with Blue Man Group @ The Venetian... I AM looking to connect with some good people and like you, find some of the funkier, edgier, more eclectic neighborhoods....they MUST exist somewhere, right??? Please feel free to peruse my profile and perhaps we can pioneer this strange neon nightmare together...Thanks!

By the way, if you guys ever have a free Saturday night, and would like to see a free show, we generally get comps for Saturday's late show...10:30 p.m.....it's a pretty cool show if you haven't seen it...and free is the right price!!

    feel.....free.

Mmm . . . eclectic neighborhoods in Vegas. Well, not really. I live in both Vegas and Portland. Portland has a few artist/free-spirit/old-NW-hippy neighborhoods. But Vegas is just too new of a city to have developed such distinct districts. However, as a previous poster stated, there is a growing art gallery district south of downtown. There are some apartments there (a few with the exterior decorated by the artist residents), but not many. It's growing. Someday. But if you, or anyone new to Vegas, would like a little insight on this town, let me know. I've become somewhat familiar with the local art scene. And I always like to meet new people. Enjoy your new home!
