Everybody who ever loved science-fiction should read MARTIAN, GO HOME by the great Fredric Brown.

I first read this book when I was eleven years old. I laughed my ass off. They made a really bad movie some years back based very loosely on it, but don't let that put you off the book. Fredric Brown was the master of the short-short story, and packed a lot of fun into this rather short novel.

    Recently read and loved:

River of Gods, by Ian McDonald
Paradox, Context, and Resolution, by John Meaney
Gridlinked, The Skinner, and Line of Polity, by Neal Asher
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, by Susanna Clark
The Affinity Trap, by Martin Sketchley

Less recently, but highly recommended: the Otherworld series by Tad Williams.

I've actually reading a lot of older sf that is now in omnibus editions. Right now reading Darkover books by Marion Zimmer Bradley.

I just joined. I know from other groups that it's hard to keep the flow. This is an older post but seems to be the most recent thread?
I love horror, fantasy and some sci fi
One of my favourite books comes to mind. It's called Grendel by John Gardner and is a retelling of the Beowulf legend by the monster's perspective. I've read and re-read this book many times. I also love the old ones like Lovecraft's novels. I'm also a Hellraiser fan.
