I am working on abandoning hope. Hope keeps me in a state of expectation and disappointment. Oh, to live in each moment without excitation, fear, or delusion! Or is that another delusion..abandoning hope?
hope (oops!) to hear response.

We are all liars, because
The truth of yesterday
becomes a lie tomorrow,
Whereas letters are fixed,
and we live by the letter of truth.
The love I feel for my friend, this year,

a four year old girl named Ariel walks by. she likes him and wonders what's in the bowl, but her mother is pulling her along... he is very beautiful; tall, pronounced features, the body of a dancer. a dancer named Mary sits and stares at his profile, wonders how he earned such a body, whether or not he is celibate, what he looks like with out his robe on.
more people gather on the steps as it nears lunch and his stillness gains momentum.
volume and density swell, framing his stillness, making it almost supernatural. more than one person thinks he is a statue, perfaps a gallery exhibit. a photographer knocks off several shots, pleased. others react as well, but his inward concentration is so intense no-one approaches him. a lot of people think to themselves 'how long has he been doing that?' but they move on. time passes. boomboxes. ice cream. hacki-sac. somebody getting chased down by a security guard. a seagull.

an old lady on the opposite sidewalk watches her feet as she steps, ever so slowly, heel to toe, heel to toe, heel to toe... so slowly people think she's much older than she is. ever so slowly, heel to toe. her movement is deliberate, constant, relaxed. the monks' eyes betray a smile. at some moment when no-one was looking he entered animate reality. his hand is no longer covering the empty bowl, which he holds out befor him. he is present now, making eye contact with those willing, inviting them. a business man walks by and attempts to put money in the bowl. the monk retracts and covers he bowl with his free hand, then, with an exaggerated gesture of delicate admiration, he looks in the bowl and offers it's contents to the business man. the man shakes his head and walks away perplexed. the old lady across the street doesn't laugh out loud.

by following truth,
many earthly accomplishment are in accord with tao.
to have tao as the unity of all actions,
all motivations must begin and end in emptiness.
This is a gathering of Lovers.
In this gathering
there is no high, no low,
no smart, no ignorant,
no special assembly,
no grand discourse,
no proper schooling required.
There is no master,
no disciple.
This gathering is more like a drunken party,
full of tricksters, fools,
mad men and mad women.
This is a gathering of Lovers
