I am traveling to Costa Rica in a few weeks and I will be in a remote area for part of the time. I want to ask my neurologist for something strong- just in case. Since I yak so much when I get migraines, it needs to be a nasal spray, shot, or suppository. I have imitrex injections which work about 70% of the time and I have compazine suppositories. When it get so bad that nothing is touching it- I end up at the ER with an injection of demerol/and some anti-nasea med. Are there any barbiturate or narcotic nasal sprays or suppositories?

Re: Emergency medications for travel
Sun, December 10, 2006 - 12:08 PMStadol is nasal spray form. Very strong. I get the whole thing about not taking stuff by mouth when it's bad. It's like your whole digestive track is shut down. I actually snorted an Imitrex pill the other day in desperation. It kinda worked but I'm not sure it's a good idea.
anywho. Stadol. -

Re: Emergency medications for travel
Sun, December 10, 2006 - 9:43 PMOh I know they do, but it was Thanksgiving Day and well... i woke up sick with one and even if getting medication would have been halfway easy that day, I just didn't feel like doing it. I usually keep the injections on hand but money has been short and I got cut off from my Bridges to Access because I make too much money. This, my friends, is such a joke that I won't go into it. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
But hey, thanks for the adoration! :) -

Re: Emergency medications for travel
Mon, December 11, 2006 - 3:42 PMYou can snort Imitrex?
Since you are asking for suggestions... Perhaps medical insurance for an out-of-country visit? That way, you could see a doc in case of emergency.

Tue, December 12, 2006 - 9:00 AMMan, if you're gonna snort imitrex, just go straight for the cocaine.
It's a very effective pain reliever- well that, and you just won't give a crap.

Re: Emergency medications for travel
Wed, December 13, 2006 - 1:26 AMIf I had some, I would've... beats crawling to the toilet every 15 minutes. I was desperate people!! I don't recommend it exactly but it did make a difference and I was able to have Thanksgiving dinner - better late than not at all - with my brother that evening so, I don't regret it. I broke a pill in fourths and crushed a fourth of it and sucked it up my nose. I couldn't keep anything down by mouth, so that seemed to be the only option. I just can't believe it never ocurred to me before. 30 years and I shoulda had that thought at least once by now! -
