........if you had the opportunity to learn how to do one thing, what would it be?

(I'm digging, here, Elijah--and I'd rather be lurking somewhere in the hallways!)

I'd like a hand at Jewelry making (metal). Something I've wanted to learn but haven't had to the time. I've worked with clay, paint, textiles, and numerous other mediums. But metal is an unfamilar one.

I've done some lapidary work, Lotus. You need any stones to go in that pretty metal?

I want to learn to fly. I want to get a hop in a twin seat fighter jet. That last one IS on my bucket list. It's the last one I want to do, because then, I'll be done with what I came here to do.

unless doing that creates a new something that you want to do.....

Yea, like pulling the eject handles going 600 miles an hour. Hahahaha!

Sorta like fire spinning, except the fire is under your butt.

I'll just say to each answer here -- just because I wanna! -- "do it then!" What's stopping you? Don't answer that! Think about how you want to answer, and then ask if that's *really* a barrier. I mean, if you want to learn to do something, I say do it. Make it your New Year's Resolution! Build little baby-steps toward it into your life and you'll get there. Really, you will. and when you're done, you'll be SO HAPPY!!

Oh, I should answer too! This year I am going to learn to swim well, and I'm going to race my first triathlon. I'm also entering four other races this year, including a trip to SF for Bay to Breakers. My first race in 22 years was this past November, a little 8k thing. I've given myself a "bailout opportunity" with the triathlon, saying that if I can't swim well I won't do it, but just now I decided that I *will* swim well. I can learn.

But what if I wanna answer it??

I'm saving guitar lessons for when my knee finally gives out and I'm not spending every spare moment on some aspect of dance....it's nice to have something to look forward to.

Yeah, but if you don't already have one, start looking for that guitar now... noodle around with it. Hey, maybe the knee *won't* give out! That'd be GREAT, but you still deserve to learn the guitar! Dancing.... guitar... We runners know that cross-training helps prevent anything giving out!

oh--torn ACL. And yeah, maybe it won't...but someday I'll have to slow down on the dancing. And then the guitar will be there (have one, yes, have noodled--but right now if I have sit down noodling time it's the doumbek I turn to, or zills, or lesson planning, or time with my kids, or training my puppy, or--well, you get the idea.).
I just like the idea of having something out there in the future, waiting for me. At the moment I have plenty to fill my time.
          :-)

That's my old injury, torn ACL and others in the left knee.
Arthroscopy has come a long way in recent years,I recommend it...
The guitar is an important activity to embrace since you'll be a bit more sedentary for awhile.
That's what I did. And I've recored 3 albums thus far...
I can't run on pavement because they removed my miniscus about 10 years ago,but the stairmaster actually works for me because of it's low impact...

Diane, you're SOOOOOOOO right. I'm in a tribe of doers like that, we're called Action Jackson! We want to manifest CHANGES in our lives. Nothing will stop us in the pursuit of our goals, and we're also a support network for each other.

And as we do good for each other, the manifestations of our works come back at us in full. I wanted to be a SMALL part of a fire spinning group as the safety director, heck, now I'm going to BURNINGMAN! Whassup with that?

There is NO limit to the human potential. None. It all depends on the snowball of success we're riding. Success is addictive, and it feeds on itself to make even bigger successes.
