Does anyone know what's happening with Didgeridoo Tribe?
They've been "closed of updates" for awhile.
Hope they come back.

Speaking From Spaces Performance

Hi Everyone,

It's been a very long time since I've been here. Hope this finds everyone safe and happy and healthy.

Some of you may know, a good friend and co-conspirator of mine VJ Tasara and I have been working
on a little project called Speaking From Spaces involving many moving
parts. We describe it something like this:

A merging of many worlds of sight and sound as the didgeridoo played
by Pamela Mortensen is married with the visual poetry of VJ Tasara.
What are the stories they tell? Take a journey through your
imagination and find out....

Translated:
Speaking from Spaces is a work of imagination, merging the worlds of
music, moving video graphics, dance and theatre. It takes the
audience on a journey through many realms depicted in song and visual
poetry as told by the character The Nonentity. These realms range
widely in feeling from devotion to the struggle between the forces of
fire and water to the gentle wisdom of the elders who pass their
knowledge to others.

For those of you who relate to visuals more, here are a three video
clips that give you a sample of what the performance is like:

although didge socks are great for keeping the finish neat when getting bungered around the house i was wondering what the going opinion is for a good travel bag for curved bells? Something that would pass through the airport is the partial goal although i was trying to avoid a hard case to avoid having to hulk big plastic box around. Didgeridoo breath?

Hi Everyone,

First, I want to say how much FUN I had at Indidjinus this year. It was a BLAST!!! Meeting new people, seeing all the incredible performances and seeing the beautiful work being done on the grounds with the kitchen and that gorgeous stage! :-)

Second, I lost my tent storage bag. It's a navy blue REI Half Dome bag with most of the stakes in it. Please let me know if anyone has seen it. I get the feeling I left it behind at Prindle Creek. Thanks much for any help and hope to see everyone soon!!!

Much love,
Pam

So we're only three months away from the big event and it's time to start gettin' ready. We just had a work party there this past weekend and built a big stage, or at least we got alot done on the construction of the stage over the weekend. Peacock did alot ahead of time and there's still quite a bit to do but y'all will be amazed. More and more stuff got done too, and there's still more on the back burner. I really need to do updates on the website and would love to post all of your favorite In-Didj-In-Us pics. E-mail them to me at chadbutler@bhumsiva.com
Workshops will be an area of improvement at this years fest. We'll be scheduling many of them before the vision council so don't wait to volunteer to lead a workshop, speak up now and get listed.

What fest support is needed now?

I expect people should look for some extra plates and cups for the kitchen?
Maybe watch for a yardsale for some pots, cups and plates..........

Is there any thing else that jumps out as a needed support?

Hi Everyone,

There are a few didgeridoo related treats on the menu for this coming weekend so here we go:

Friday, 24 July 7-9pm
Performance @
Zippy's Java Lounge
1804 Hewitt Ave
Everett, Washington, 98201

Cool rhythms on the sticks to tap your toes by as you sip on a Chai.

Saturday, 25 July
Workshops @ Dusty Strings
3406 Fremont Ave N
Seattle, WA 98103

Beginners Workshop
10:30am-12:30pm
This is a fun workshop for beginners who have never played didgeridoo before. We will cover the basics of getting the drone, circular breathing, vocals and simple rhythms and more as well as have a laugh or two along the way.

Circular Breathing and Rhythms
1:30-3:30pm
We'll cover more about circular breathing and how to get it and include it in rhythms as well as covering a more meditative approach to this seemingly elusive technique. We will also explore rhythms and techniques and how to put them together to make a song. If you do not have a didgeridoo, no worries, I will have extras on hand. For more information go to http://www.dustystrings.com/workshopsandevents/musicschool/workshops/miscellaneous/tabid/247/Default.aspx

Saturday, 25 July
5pm
Moore Brothers Music
22820 NE 8th Street, Suite 102
Sammamish, WA 98074

We are celebrating five years with a party at Moore Brothers Music in Sammamish. This is where I teach piano and voice (as well as a bit of didge). There will be student and instructor performances all day long so come on down and join in the fun. The sticks and I will be on at 5pm for some tasty rhythmic fun. More info can be found at http://www.moorebrothersmusic.com/

I think that's it. Thanks for letting me ramble on and hope to see you soon! :-)

Peace on,
Pam

Rocky Mountain Didgeridoo Festival August 21-23, Crestone, CO

It looks like we have a festival ground & firm date for a weekend Rocky Mountain didgeridoo festival. The inspiring Dream Weaver Sanctuary is several acres in the Crestone area, at the foot of the glorious Sangre de Christo Mountains in southern Colorado. This is a new location about 35 miles from Joy’s place.

It is a green site so we compost and recycle everything. There will be potlucks and the End of the Road Café will be serving up yummy coffee and maté treats, and with everyone’s help can be a communal kitchen. This will be a self-sufficient camping event, be prepared for afternoon thunderstorms. Lodging is available nearby in the town of Crestone. It’s hoped that each person can do an hour or two of volunteer work a day, and it looks like we’ll be able to offer work trade & sliding scale.

The date for the festival is August 21-23 … this is one week after California’s Jammin’ Tree festival and two weeks after both the Crestone Music Festival and In-didj-in-us in Oregon. Ondrej Smeykal sounded excited about playing in Crestone, and other international artists will likely perform. They will need to travel great distances, so support them with your generous donation.

The hope is to draw audience and performers from around the region, and showcase mountain-state talent. There’s enthusiastic didj communities in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, and a well-organized bunch in Colorado Springs as well. There are a number of players and makers here in the San Luis Valley as well. Everyone is invited to play, either in a performance slot, open mic, ceremony, or sound healing. The End of the Road Café will be a small, intimate venue for acoustic performances and open mic… so volunteer to be a barista! Everyone is also encouraged to set up a booth to show their wares, or offer instruments informally by leaning them up against a tree. Anyone may offer a workshop.

Volunteers can work on festival coordination, publicity, booking acts, being an act, setting up the physical site, website, fund raising, you name it. Remember… it is YOUR festival, be a leader!

There will be a one-day potluck fund raising & planning event at north of Denver in Dacono Saturday June 6, the same date & place as last year’s event. If you remember It’ll be a great place to jam and have a blast!

Super big thanks to all the people who have made it possible to get this far.

A new yahoo group is forming for volunteers & performers… please contribute your ideas and be a part of making it real.

sign up by emailing rockydidj-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

didjeridu sound healing gig spots in CA?

Greetings,

Jen and I are taking our sound healing event on the road for a sound tour from Portland down to Joshua Tree in May. I'm looking for connections with places that might be interested in hosting our Sound Awakening event.
It's an hour of didjeridus, gongs, Tibetan bowls, flute and more. We spend most of the time on our feet floating through the room playing on/over people so they feel as well as hear the soundwaves.

I've been doing this group sound night in Portland for about 5 years and the last 10 or so of my 14 years with the didjeridu has been focused on sound healing. I can't not do it and I love it. I'd happily provide you many references if that would make a difference... or just ask Chad! It was a special treat to share this past Tuesday with him and Ondrej - an hour of Ondrej rocking our socks off followed by another hour of our sound meditation journey... and a repeat performance this Tuesday!

For this trip we're especially looking for contacts in the general vicinity of Chico, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Big Sur, LA, San Diego and Joshua Tree. Not sure we'll get to all of these but I've been working on this trip for 2 months now and things really aren't falling in to place yet so I'm seeing what opens up for us.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd really love to hear from you. I'm not on Tribe much these days but will be checking in for this. I respond very quickly to email at tomlange1@yahoo.com

Peace through music,
Tom

Didge crafter challenge

Alright folks! CJ Henderson here. I have recently started playing with the Wicked Tinkers and have a bit of a challenge for any of you crafters who feel you can make this happen! We play in the key of Bb+(matches the bagpipes) and have a great 7 foot long super low didge that lives on a stand (thanks Zumwalt!). We are in the market for a lightweight, portable( for romping through audiences and table dancing), good playing/sounding, and cool looking didge that plays a low Bb. It does not have to be as low as the big Zumwalt didge obviously, but we do not need it bumblebee high either. We have a great high Bb didge (thanks Chad!) and our horn. I think we are leaning more towards the hardwood or leather didges, but I am open for ideas! Let me know what you all think!

Hi Everyone,

This is Pam.

I got bit by the performing bug so at the risk of shameless self-promotion, I’m starting the process of scheduling some performances (gigs) and didgeridoo workshops around the Seattle and Puget Sound area (and beyond?) and wanted to ask if anyone in these areas would be interested in learning more about what I’m doing. If so, please let me know and I can put you on an emailing list. Or if you’d rather you can visit www.pamelamortensen.com and where you’ll find an email sign up on the home page as well as more information about what I do.

Also, if you know of any venues in your area that you think a didgeridoo performance would fit, let me know about that too. I’m covering as many places as I can but locals always know of a place I may end up missing.

Thanks for your help and see you soon!

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that the jam at Zippy's Java Lounge is on.

Tomorrow is a day for lovers (actually, every day is a day for lovers)
so come celebrate your love for the didgeridoo, drum, banjo, shakers,
Native American flute, shakuhachi or any other acoustic instrument at
the Valentine's Day jam from 4:30-7pm. There will be an informal
didgeridoo lesson beforehand at 3:30pm ($5 suggested donation) so
if you live in the Seattle/Everett area (or even if you don't) come
on down and join in the fun!! It'll be better than chocolate.....well
almost.

Zippy's is located at
1804 Hewitt Ave.
Everett, WA 98201

Hope to see you there!

While searching the web for the history of indigenous female didjeridu playing, I came across these articles about the current very difficult situation there. Obviously native Australian women have lots more to worry about than playing didj!
I don't know what organizations are already involved, but surely we didj players can find a way to help. Even though times are tough, they're tougher over there! With all the joy and healing our music can bring, there must be a way.
For the last two days I've been working with the new computer's sound and video software. Garage Band, and Imovie combining some sound clips from my CD Animal Dreams, and recording new tracks with the multi-track function to make some songs to go with the sounds and pictures of the didjeridus I'm selling. The small ones will go for $200, and the big ones for $300.

Ondrej will be coming back in March for a 'full U.S.' tour. I'm booking his shows, working it around a few key shows already in negotiation. We'll be looking to add a bunch more dates for concerts and workshops. If you want Ondrej to come to your hometown and think it can draw enough of a crowd to be profitable contact me through e-mail or over the phone and we'll see what we can set up. chadbutler@bhumsiva.com (503)394-2362. We'll be starting early march on the east coast, moving through the midwest on an undetermined route, down to Arizona for a show on the 14th, then it's west coast time until the end of the month. Anything is possible. Hit me up.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry this is short notice. The weekend snuck up on me. If you can make it to this, we'd love to see you there.

This coming Saturday, 8 Nov, come show your stuff at Zippy's
Java Lounge in Everett, Washington as we host the next didgeridoo
and acoustic instrument open mic and jam. We've had a pretty great time so far but let's get together and grow this puppy! Bring your didge, flute, djembe, oud, tabla, doumbek, hand percussion, harp, banjo, theramin or any other musical instrument that doesn't normally get heard at an open mic. Heck, if you come, I may even sing the theme to Star Trek. One never knows. Anyhow, here's the who, what, when, why and how.

North Seattle Didgeridoo and Acousticals
Open Mic and Jam – All acoustic instruments are welcome

An informal didgeridoo lesson from 3:30-4:15pm ($5 suggested donation)
Open Mic will be from 4:30-7pm
At
Zippy's Java Lounge
1804 Hewitt Ave.
Everett, WA 98203
425-258-4940

Come on out and jam together or just have a listen. Hope to see you there!!

Cheers,
Pam

to all my family...
my good friend Richard..had only one son.....
he didn't talk about him alot ......
and when he did..it was always with a deep love ....
he was a very smart kid.... you could hear the pride ..
. ..........in Richards voice as he would talk about him ..... prior to his death........
there were probably reasons why they hadn't talk in a while .
.. i don't know ...
(why haven't i talked to my son for over a year?????)
he was 31.........
this is what the newspaper said about it....
but before you read it ..
. Richard asked that we all play some music somewhere for his son "RC",..
........ just a little song or something dedicated to "RC".. is what he asked me to pass on to you..
Richards son lived in the Florida panhandle.....he didn't live in Vegas....
there are many unanswered questions to his death ..... Richard needs our prayers ......
He is devastated ...........
he doesn't have any e-mail
his phone number is 760-915-0232
....Pedestrian killed overnight by truck on 215 Beltway
By Mary Manning

Published Wed, Oct 22, 2008 (8:58 a.m.)

Updated Wed, Oct 22, 2008 (4:06 p.m.)

The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a man who was hit and killed early this morning by a cement truck on the 215 Beltway.

The man, who has not yet been identified, darted from a rock-strewn embankment onto the highway in front of a cement truck that was heading west toward the northbound I-15 onramp, according to Trooper Kevin Honea.

Traffic ground to a halt on the highway after the accident, which occurred about 3 a.m., as officers worked the scene. All lanes were reopened on the Beltway by about 7:20 a.m., Honea said.

The man struck by the truck was wearing dark clothing and did not have a wallet or other identification, Honea said.

As part of the investigation, the highway patrol is looking into the man's run into traffic as an "intentional act," Honea said.

The Clark County coroner's office has not released the identity of the pedestrian.

if you couldn't make it to these events this year or even if you did, you can experience them (again) in virtual reality (vr).

if you haven't seen a quicktime vr (you don't need quicktime), you have to check these out !
when you get to my site, click on a thumbnail OR on the 'high' or 'low' links below the images. a new window will open and the vr will load, click on the image and drag your mouse around to look around.

you can look up, down and all around these images.

vr's from indidjinus are here: http://pdxvr.com/tours-project-60

you can see ones from jt here: http://pdxvr.com/tours-project-62

there are a bunch of others from my trip this summer too, the best way see them all is to go to http://pdxvr.com/tours-new and click the next / previous buttons on the top right

if you know me or i know you, check them out and you can see a lot of the places i went.

Hey gang;
Being that Tribe.net seems to be down as much as it is up these days; I would like to suggest that we all reconnect over at facebook.
I do not want to lose the connections that I have made here if Tribe goes down for good.
I have started a "Group" there called "didgeridoo tribe".

The description reads:
A continuation of the Didgeridoo group, formerly on Tribe.net. A place to discuss all things didgeridoo including, but not limited to: Instruments, techniques, performers, and festivals.

If you are leary of Facebook, believe me, it has crossed over. It is no longer just high schoolers and endless games. It is quickly becoming the premiere online social networking site.

No pressure, and you certainly don't gotta - but I hope to see most, if not all, of you there.
I will cross-post this to several of the didge tribes here.

Peace
Jay

Thank you all for a great weekend. The site is still buzzing with energy, I can still hear the didj, vibrating a tone in harmony with the land, the trees, the water and the wildlife. The new structure served as the kitchen, but more importantly a central focus for people to gather and enjoy the food and drink and each other. I hope it is evident that we are committed to having In-Didj-In-Us visit our land each year. The addition of the pavilion is one way we hope to express a commitment to events that feature the participants as well as sharing the land and environment with adults and children. We hope to share an understanding of nature and how many of us, need time like the In-Didj_In-us weekend, to center and ground ourselves so we can again go back to our lives and feel complete. I have posted some photos, if you would like to see, go to the link below. Thanks again, Daniel

Next weekend....already time for the magic to begin again! It was easy to see last year that there was some serious effort put in to make in-didj-in-us as amazing as it was, and I'm sure that there was no less put into it this year. SO! For those of us who are coming from far away places where there be monsters and mayhem and no open spaces, WHAT CAN WE BRING!!!! Are there any bulk foodstuffs, containers, utensils or apparatus that are needed that can ride along the long dusty road with us? Anything at all! Let us know what you need brother!!!

Hello everyone,

Over the past few weeks I have been working on creating a new kitchen/picnic structure. Actually two structures. The Concrete will be pouresd this coming tuesday, This weekend I will be peeling poles lovingly chosen from here on the property. Things are lining up. What I need is a few pairs of hands to help with roof framing, skip sheeting and metal instalation. We were thinking that if anyone wanted to come visit the weekend before the gathering we would supply food drink and lively work environment. This is the first step in continued improvement of services and facilities for this property. thanks for reading and feel free to respond with any questions or input.
Work party (raising the roof)------August 1,2,3 .
looking forward to seeing everyone. Peace

For the last year or so, Karl has been battling a form of Lymphoma. He was in the Cambridge nursing and rehabilitation center in Skokie, IL, recovering from his last round of Chemotherapy where he lasted a month and half. Karl passed away on Saturday, June 28 at 6:10 p.m. central standard time in a hospice surrounded by his family and held close to the hearts of all those locally who knew and loved him in addition to all those who knew what he was going through . His family is currently in the process of making the arrangements to have him buried in Cleveland with his grandparents. Locally his parents will be arranging a Memorial service in his honor in mid to late July. For the immediate present, there will be a memorial space created at Give Peace A Dance for those who wish to pay their respects. See the website for details.

So my partner is planning on coming with me to InDidjInUs this year and then we're hoping/planning to make it to JT Festival as well. I remember talking to Geoff, Tom, and others last year and they were talking about taking that whole week in between and visiting a few places along the way to California. Making a roadtrip out of it and visiting good people along the way. Wondering if this is going on this year? What is everyone's plan? Who is all going to JT this year and are you planning on driving? Woohoo!!
I can't wait! :) Love you all.

A while back I posted this on the Didgeridoo tribe page under a topic on the horrifying and toxic world that is didge finishing/sealing. I want to make sure that you are all well aware of the dangers of epoxies, oils, waxes and all other forms of malevolently sinister sealants. I wanted to share with you my hallowing stories and experiences with the various didgeridoos, or as I have come to adress them
"Doomlogs"
Be warned folks......this is not pretty.

"For what it's worth I've been playing the be-jesus out of many of Jeff's logs and so far I'm only missing the left half of my top lip. Being that I am a side puffer, I have simply started to rotate and assume I have a good 3-5 years worth of flappable lip remaining. After my head swelled up to the size of one of Antlers gongs I stopped playing Chad's sticks for a while....but now that I'm only at twice normal head circumference, I feel I can get back on them once more. Frost's logs cause sexual side effects that I feel no need to reiterate here, all will say is the doctor says it should grow back....eventually. Tyler's didges give me chronic diarrhea, which gets extremely interesting when I am playing in kilt with the Wicked Tinkers. All in all, I feel these are very minor prices to pay for being able to play such wonderful sticks, and assuming that I will be able to get my head into my truck and make it to in-didj-in-us without my colostomy bag exploding and infecting my lip, I look forward to playing all of your great new logs. Take care guys."

So there you have it! Be very careful with those septic sticks. None of this stopped me, and that is the source of my unparalleled concern. I'm frightened to see where the world of didgeridoo playing will go if you all go loosing your lips and searching for other flappable sources of sound.......oh the HORROR!!!! THE HORROR!!!!!!! JUST THE THOUGHT ALONE!!!!!!! IT'S GRUESOME!!!!

hehehe :^P Cant wait to see you all next month!
Cheers!
CJ

got an email tonight...these folks got my email off some flyers i put up on campus at evergreen. the flyers were advertizing my free didj class that meets once a week for six weeks... not really sure how to handle this one anyboy got any ideas, thoughts, words of wisdoms.....is this just a young pissed off college kid that just took a class on cultural apropration...or what.... this is sort of voilent in nature... is this a threat.

are you a brother from what is now known as australia?
in other words are you indigenous? if not then stop
now what you are doing. it's racist and we as Native
people here in olympia will not stand for it. six
weeks to teach other white people how to play an
instrument that is thousands of years old, and was and
is still used by traditional people to pray, to dream,
to live. Native people have been murdered for trying
to play this instrument that you apparently have
"borrowed". we want you to come to your senses,
before it's too late and you allow other people to
play along with your racism. this kind of crap needs
to stop in olympia. we wait you response.

and if you are charging money, then you indeed have
no soul.

the perfect didj

A good friend of mine just stopped through. She's hyper intelligent and way hooked on didj. While she was here she was telling me she wanted to work on computer modeling to create specs for the perfect didj which could then be replicated with machines using CNC technology. I hear this kinda talk so much and I see so many different approaches to crafting. I think that if someone has a deep enough relationship to didge that the guidance in building them will be intuitive rather than scientific modeling but whatever, a thousand monks a thousand religions right? My response to her rather than trying to change her concept or method was to encourage her that in order to scientificly create the perfect didj that it was first necessary to determine what is the perfect note.

the emptiness inside

Our dear friend Tara had sent me a letter asking about some didge crafting specifics and after I wrote a long and wordy response my computer failed to send it properly and nothing I could do would bring it back up so that I could just send it again, but I could still see it, so I transcribed it by hand and decided I may as well share this info with everybody. The main portion of her questioning was about lengths and interior dimensions as far as tuning and playing characteristics. So here goes....
As far as lengths and diameters, I'm sure that the sticks you have already can give you a bit of a tutorial on what already seems to work. Basicly, air flow is very similar to water flow so in your mind if it makes it easier to conceive of how water would behave inside a boreshape then that gives you a conceptualization to work with. Pitch is basicly a result of speed. In a top end when the input (volume or amount) is the same, air or water will have to move away to make room for the continued input so in a tight top end the flow rate will be faster resulting in a higher pitch AND higher backpressure and in a more open top end the flow rate will be slower resulting in a lower pitch AND lower backpressure. If the bore is conical and opens up too quickly causing a very short high pressure zone near the mouthpiece followed by a low pressure zone where it opens up the effect will be similar to if the didge length is cut near the beginning point of the low pressure zone, so effectivly the key will be determined by the length of the higher pressure zones. Opening up with a conical bore causes incoming air at the bell which gives a bouncy responsive type of playing action. If the bore remains cylindrical without coning out the effect of the backpressure will be more a result of the air inside the column getting in it's own way thus causing a slower flow (lower pitch) and slower response which is in direct contrast to the quick bouncy response of a conical didge. This cylindrical aircolumn causing it's own flow resistance is another way of adding backpressure yet as I described, it's a different type of backpressure in terms of the response and playing characteristics. A bell is basicly a no pressure zone and can be completely cut off without affecting the key but it would affect the tonal qualities as the bell section acts as a natural amplifier which adds bass tones and volume. A bell is a double edged sword as even though it adds to the power of a didge it also muddles the clarity and precision of the upper asnd mid-range responses. For vocals a more open top end projects with more clarity because the movement inside the bore is not as turbulent, though on an open topend you need to keep a longer section of cylindrical bore so that the backpressure remains high enough for ease of play. A tight topend on a conical bore is more suited to a quick percussive style yet the high backpressure also allows the player to nurse it slowly for airplane ( or meditative, or whitefella) style making it easy for a lazy player to do basicly anything they want with it. This is a style I create most often = awesome stick for beginner through intermediate. My opinion is that your abilities (Tara) and your diaphram strength would allow you to push on a didge with lower backpressure than others would find comfortable so if you're crafting for your own self there's no need to go too tight on the top end unless you're trying to get a first trumpet that comes in at less than an octave above the fundamental. You'll notice that didges with a cylindrical bores havea first trumpet that comes in at way more than an octave jump and conical bores will have trumpets that come in closer to one octave above the fundamental. Simply knowing that bit of info there can help you to craft sticks in which not only your fundamental is intentionally tuned but also your trumpets can be intentionally tuned. Like I mentioned about the pressure zones causing the pitch, you'll get the biggest bang for the buck in the tuning processes at the mouthpiece end of the stick by either cutting shorter (raises the pitch, and generally leaves the trumpet about the same depending on what bore characteristics you're getting closer to by this shortening) , hollowing out (lowers pitch and pushes trumpet further from fundamental), adding length(lowers pitch and can draw the trumpet closer, though generally leaves the distance between fundamental and trumpet about the same), or shrinking the interior diameter (raises pitch and brings the trumpet closer). This is all a very basic description. Your mileage may vary.

Hello everyone! I am looking for as many didgeridoo healers as possible with their contact information. If you yourself are a healer or know someone who is, I would love to include them on my website. The only healer I know myself is Tom Lange. There's gotta be more out there!!! And I don't mean just the Northwest, I am looking for as many didj healers as possible. The more the better!
Thank you for your help!!

Greetings tribe members. The Colorado Didgeridoo and World Music Gathering, aka “The Gathering” is on the drawing board. However, in order to pull it off, it is necessary to raise some seed money.

Some of you may know that I used to have a small hierloom vegetable plant nursery......and I always grow at least a small garden....
So I have a bunch of extra seeds left from past years that I would love to have go to a good home.
Probably at least a dozen hierloom tomato types, radishes, tabasco pepper, cucumbers, green beans, some herbs....stuff like that.
Some of it is a few years old, but should still be good.
I'm thinking that if there is any interest, I'll write up what I have and send small/large amounts to whoever wants. You can pay for postage with an extra donation to indidjinus fest if you are able.
All I ask is that you really plan to use them.
Post here or email me through the tribe.
peace and respect,

I just got off the phone with Lewis Burns. He had gotten a little sidelined for awhile but now he's back working doing art and he'll be going to France to perform before he comes to In-Didj-In-Us. I think this is great news. It was excellent to hear his voice. I just love Lewis so much and had to share my excitement.

Hello beautiful people! I am creating a website for my Foundation Portfolio website class. And with this website, we can create any website we want. And so I've been thinking, what is something that inspires me, something I'm interested in, so that I can make this website amazing? I was talking with Dawn and she expressed that she's not on Tribe very often, maybe she doesn't like it much? Not sure. But I want to create a website for the didj community, maybe with info, news, upcoming events, maybe even a post like Tribe (not sure what that entails and if I'm capable of it, but if it's something you're interested in, I will learn how to do it!) Does anyone have any ideas? Anything you would LOVE to see online for the didj community? I would love as much input and ideas as possible to make this website truly useful.
Do you have any ideas?
Do you have any good resources for me?
Didg events?
Feel free to send me a message if you'd like, I can't wait to hear some of your ideas. I have 10 weeks to create this website. Although the whole project doesn't have to be within that 10 week span, and I can take it further than 10 weeks after the class is over. Thank you for your input! I look forward to it!
Didj scene in France?

Hello everyone! I am planning a trip to France in March and April! I am actually going over to see my penpal get married, I am very excited to meet her :) And of course, I am taking my didj with me! Does anyone know if there is a didj scene in France? Anyone have any connections? I would love to meet and hopefully play with some more didj players over in France, but I'm not sure what's there.... Thank you so much!

And how was everyone's holiday? Man, and here comes another one! I can't wait for the New Year, so many good things to look forward to!

Peace and Much Love

It's been quite a couple of days and I just wanted to check in with everyone and see how you faired with the weather. Looks like a lot of us in the Oregon/Washington area got creamed. Hope you're doing alright out there.

so I am listening to this recording
by david hudson
called woolunda
recorded by steve roach back in 93

incidentally, a recording I think
every didg player should have

and like a lot of similar performances
this is full of sounds
you might call frog voices or whatever
and also some pure trumpet resonances
at about a tenth interval above the drone

and I know it is early in my apprenticeship
and there is a long learning curve ahead
but I have zero idea how he does this

does anyone have practical suggestions

my first didg is a piece of bamboo from Toca percussion
somewhere near a low "d"
and it has been good to learn on
but I am wanting to branch out
eventually get something authentic of course
but for now maybe a piece of pvc pipe
which I know I can probably get at a hardward store
but I do not want to participate in creating a market for
this use of petroleum
so I want to pick up a piece used somewhere
any ideas where

That you are missed and I think about you all often! I can't wait until another didj gathering. It is definitely time! I would love to reconnect, get some didj sessions together. Anyone in the Portland area that would like to get together and play and play and play. If you have an open space with good acoustics, that would be great..... I feel distant from my didj and fellow didj players. It is time to reconnect and play within the harmonious vibrations of the didjeridoo.....

Much Love and I hope you are all doing well!

Howdy,

Although Jeff Cooper was not at Indidijinus this year, he's still a damn fine Portland didjeridu player and nice guy. He's in a band called Vivid Curve - drums, guitar/mandolin/vocals, and didjeridu. Awesome upbeat fun music.

They're playing at a place called The Amazon this Wednesday evening, Nov 14th, at 9pm.
2nd and Couch - I think he said it might be upstairs?
no cover

Come on out and get your didj groove on, they rock hard!

There were different lengths of pvc pipe at InDidjInUs laying up against the picnic table..... They were so fun, reminded me of the Blue Man Group....
Whose were those anyways? And how do you make them? Was it just a rubber stop on one end? I can't remember... but I REALLY want a few for myself, I think it would be really fun to bring to Firejam on sundays!!!
Thanks!
I hope all of you are doing well. I'm missing my fellow didj players.... anyone in Portland want to get a session together and play? I'm in dire need of the vibrational healings.

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know how I can get a hold of Mattie (sp?) the didge maker? After thinking about it for a day or two, there is a little redwood didge that he brought to Indidjinus that I loved playing and really can't stop thinking about. I wanted to see if I could contact him about it. Thanks much for any help.

didjeridus in the bunkers at the beach with a yurt - hot damn!

Greetings,

Matt Kearns here in Portland (and Indidjinus attendee) has reserved a yurt on the Oregon coast for the last weekend of September. I think it's for Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th, but I'm not sure. I am also not sure of the location, but it's probably Fort Stevens or one at the south end of Washington.

He and I did this last fall at the Washington campground - went into the bunkers and played a lot of music with some absurdly delicious acoustics. Quite a treat for all you didjeridu players.

I am not sure I will be able to make it this time, but am trying to get some people interested. It's going to be a wonderful trip, the yurt is a nice place to stay if it's wet and if it's dry - well then you're at the beach on a lovely day. If you want to come out for just the day and hang out and play that's cool too.

If you are interested or want more details, contact Matt at 503-758-8586 or email mohatman@hotmail.com

Hope to see you there,
Tom

anyone interested in teaching a novice didge player? I recently purchased a didge at the Oregon Country Fair and am struggling to find adequate training material, so I am resorting to taking lessons. I live in the Corvallis/Albany Oregon area, if you are interested email me at david97355@gmail.com with details. Unfortunately, I missed this years didge fest near Philomath.

Las Vegas Didge Fest?

So, would anyone be interested in a didgeridoo gathering near Las Vegas sometime around April or early May of 2008?

It would be held in the magnificent Valley of Fire State Park, about 45 minutes north of Las Vegas. The weather is great that time of year. Information about the park can be found here:

http://parks.nv.gov/vf.htm

For those who don’t enjoy a somewhat primitive camping experience (there are toilets and water, but no showers) there are plenty of reasonable hotels in Las Vegas – and it’s an easy drive. There are also no food vendors at the park, but I’m open to ideas on that.

Perhaps we could incorporate a “Do Las Vegas” evening for those who enjoy such things. Maybe get a group rate on a Cirque du Soleil show.

This is just in the “talking about talking about it” phase, so no promises – but I’d be interested in facilitating such an event close to my home.

Thoughts?
Ideas?

Hello Beautiful Ones:)!

I am SOOOO very sad that I missed in didj in us this year. I was SOOOO looking forward to seeing all of the beautiful people that met last year and meeting many new beautiful souls this year. There was nothing in my mind that even came close to thinking that I would not be there this year. Unfortuantely, a last minute big one made it impossible. I am so happy to hear that everyone had such a good time. Thank you for keeping my spirit alive at in didj and JT this year in my physical absence. DIDJ FAMILY ROCKS!!!!! I love you guys :).

HUGE hugs, giggles, and smiles :) :) :),
