this is made with material i prepared for Fusion Festival, and is also an attempt to communicate new conceptions of hybridity by fusing sounds from disparate locations and eras into new musical entities, with focus on traditional and regional music framed by urban bass and beats, or is it the other way around?

Mashups: a cheap one liner trend collapsing all narratives into a heap of meaningless garish post modern rubbish, or a new way of interacting with cultures, of thinking about the world, of experiencing and creating music? of course they can be both, but i've always been excited, if not by most of what i have heard, by what i imagined was possible.

and what i imagined was Digital Gamelan, Ethiopian Grime, Afro-Arabian Dubstep -- sounds from far away and/or long ago fused in ways that are both surprising but also intuitive... i wanted to make a particular kind of mashup, producing results that people would want to listen to, maybe over and over. is it possible to make the fusion, the bastard frankenstein assemblage, sound better than the original sources? a tall order for sure, especially when the original sources sometimes are master musicians, but one that i nonetheless hope to have achieved in some of the mashups included in this mix. judge for yourself -- admittedly a little difficult since you can not hear the originals next to them -- so i suppose just go by how well the hybrids work...

i am always hearing the same beat patterns, the same compositional devices, the same dynamics, the same arrangements, in music made both spatially and temporally far apart from eachother: i think ultimately i absolutely believe that the traditional non western music are the roots of modern music, and indirectly perhaps, but absolutely, deeply connected to the most current forms dance music evolution is taking. (this has to do with the "Afro Asiatic Roots of Classical CIvilization" but that's a HUGE topic for another day).

Rane TTM56 TTM57 ??

I'm tired of dealing with my Denon DX-100.
The cross fader bleeds like slaughtered pig. It happened three months after new sent it back to Denon and the fader took a SH&#T the first gig out when I got it back. So then it was past the 1 year warranty and Denon wouldn't do any thing to "fix" it again.
Luckily I have my trusty old Behringer dx 1000 that just won't quit to cover me when the Denon fails me.

Granted the Denon is a cheep mixer and I DO scratch I feel a mixer cross fader should either last more then one year or easily be replaceable.

But I want a mixer that is going to take the abuse, sounds good and is a great scratch mixer. I also want it to fit in a suite case for easy setup.

So I'm looking at the Rane TTM56 an TTM57. Anyone have any good or bad experience with these mixers? Is having Serato built in a worth while feature?

As a DJ I mix on what ever I have available to me. I prefer vinyl, I currently mostly spin on CDJ 1000s, Back in the day I used PCs to DJ. I need a solid mixer. Is Rane the one?

Panthalassa Vtec
For this mix, I really focused on bringing sounds together in a way that provided exciting transitions between tracks, while mixing in early to keep the track’s sounds fresh, and selecting tracks that build off of eachothers sound. I mixed/recorded this live at my home studio on 3 pioneer CDJ’s, a pioneer mixer, and a desktop CPU. This mix was recorded live. It’s available at:

Nice Chassis is a sweet Jazzy House mix I put together last weekend. My inspiration for this actually was the Bartender at Tunel 21, who told me "you need more soul in the stuff you guys play downstairs", and I told him I’d mix up some jazzy stuff and give it to him to see if he liked it. Bubbles
Bubbles is a new uplifting trance mix I recorded last night. Its full of expansive melody, lengthy breakdowns, and epic buildups. Its the kind of trance I enjoyed listening to long before I ever touched a record. When posting your mix, include a tracklist! You have every reason to, and it can hurt you if you don't.

More people will listen to your mix! I usually don't bother DLing a mix if there's no TL.

Plus, it's nice for the producers who made the tracks to get the mention, and if they're web searching for DJs making playlists, your tracklist might pop up and then they'll know your name. You never know where this kind of stuff might lead.

Bonus points if you include the record label.

Word!! Keep rocking, DJs.

Here's my latest. I've been on a bit of an electro breaks kick lately (well, the last few years hehe) and this is the inevitable musical meltdown, with a few other sub-genres thrown in for good measure. Bottom line, though, is I'm very happy with this set. Definitely something you can dance to, and carries a certain energy throughout. It's in standard MP3 format, I'll have an enhanced version with additional art and embedded artist/track info for fancier MP3 software, ipods, and iphones in the next few days.
