... Just starting a new thread based on Cary's recent comment...
He was absolutely stunning. I was shocked and jarred by his ending so soon. I just wasn't prepared for the 2nd-on-the-bill time limit. I was also pleasantly suprised by his working his merch table (got me a signed CD and a warm handshake... pretty awesome) and setting up his own gear. I mean, he's done huge tours with crews and buses and whatnot, and it was just nice to see he's so committed to be playing music that he's willing to 'slum it' to do it. Not sure how stoked he is to be doing this tour though.
It was definitely worth the 3 hour drive to see him. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Re: David last Thursday
Mon, September 25, 2006 - 5:15 PMDid you see the crowd change before he came on? Some older music types who knew who he was. I'm pretty sure that was Jello Biafra bouncing around at the corner of the stage. I was suprised at the "full" sound he was able to get from some boxes at his feet. it was great to hear "Black Soul Choir". I didn't know if he would do any 16HP material. I was 2 back from the stage and the girl in front of me scored the set list; i didn't even think of it. The new live DVD gives a similiar feel to him Thurs., we're lucky to have it available.

Re: David last Thursday
Tue, September 26, 2006 - 11:16 AMYep, that was Jello. Lookin' awfully middle-aged too, I might add. I was curious about David's pedals, though I didn't want to shove my way through the crowd to see what was going on down there. I'm sure he had a looper of some sort that had pre-recorded drones and such. it definitely made the difference with the over-all vibe of the songs.
I have the live DVD, though there isn't anything on there with him solo. But after seeing videos on the web of him solo, my opinion is that seeing him in the flesh is quite a different experience.
