I read about this story earlier today in an email from a news service. If I remember correctly, the preacher's name Anthony Hopkins. presuably no relation to the actor. He had been abusing his children for years and when his wife discovered the abuse and threatened to expose him, Hopkins murdered her, stored her body in the freezer for three or four years and began working as an itenerant preacher while continuing the abuse. Eventually his oldest daughter escaped and informed the police, who discovered the wife's body in the freezer. The incredible part of this whole bizarre tale is that when the police went to arrest him, they found Hopkins in church preaching; they decided to wait until the service was over before taking the murderer into custody. Why they would wait is a mystery, my suspicion is that it very likely was from a misplaced sense of respect for the ministry or for the church or even for God. Why this man should benefit at all from such phony sentiments is beyond my understanding.
Had I been leading the police detail, I would happily have marched into the church, stormed the pulpit and removed this cancer from the sanctuary. I would have been pleased to announce, "Pastor Hopkins, you are under arrest on charges of pedophilia and for the murder of your wife. Turn around and place your hands behind you. You have the right to remain silent. . ." In my admittedly biased opinion, that is all the respect this degenerate deserves.
Below is the abbreviated version of the story that I found through googling later today.
>>>MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A judge in Alabama has denied bond for a part-time evangelist who's charged with murder in the death of his wife.
The body of the victim, a mother of 8, was found in a freezer where it had been kept for at least three years. Authorities believe she was killed in 2004.
The evangelist, Anthony Hopkins, returned to jail after a brief court appearance today. He's the father of his wife's six youngest children.
He's also charged with sex crimes in what authorities say is a related case involving a female relative who's pregnant with his baby.
Investigators believe his wife, Arletha Hopkins, was killed when she discovered the sexual abuse.
His wife's disappearance was never reported to police. Hopkins had told her relatives that she was unavailable or that she didn't want any contact with them.<<<

Re: Another Holy Hypocrite Charged with Murder

Yes, Bob, it would have been very emotionally satisfying to have arrested him on the pulpit. However, that would be against police procedure to arrest a suspect in front of a crowd where the police may be forced to draw their weapons and maybe even fire them. That could have endangered the The police followed established procedure by the people in the congregation and innocents may have been hurt or even killed. A .38 bullet striking a child in a non-fatal area on an adult could conceivably permanently cripple the child.
The police acted in a very professional manner by waiting for the end of the sermon before arresting the scumbag. When police act wrongly, nobody ever thinks twice about criticizing them. In this case they acted correctly, and should be appropriately praised for acting in a manner that safe guarded the congregation. -

Re: Another Holy Hypocrite Charged with Murder
Sat, August 2, 2008 - 7:37 PMThanks, Bill, I had not considered that possibility. I was mistaken as to the motives of the police in this instance. However, I would far rather have seen him exposed as the hypocrite he is in front of the congregation he was misleading as an object lesson to the gullible. I seriously doubt, he would have drawn a weapon for a shootout that might have endangered innocent bystanders. Still, you never know, so yes, the police acted correctly.
I'm afraid I was overreacting due to the growing tendency to respect the preachers even when they're caught red-handed. This attitude bothers me greatly; I am pleased to learn there was a more rational purpose to the decision.

Re: Another Holy Hypocrite Charged with Murder
Sun, August 3, 2008 - 6:46 AMAnother Christian Evangelist caught Sexually Abusing his own Kids!
The Murder of his Wife was bad enough but this just underscores MY belief that the Christian Faith foster's and encourages Pedophilia and extramarital sexual contact.
The restrictive nature of "Christian-Approved" Heterosexually Married sexual contact bettween the Married Christian Man and Woman as per described in their Holy Bible is just part of the "Christian Pedophile Problem".
The Faith teaches that "sex is ONLY done for the Procreation of a new life"...PERIOD! There is NO Lovemaking involved at all.
The Woman opens her legs and "recieves her Husbands Seed". So the Horny Bastard seeks his sexual thrills in "other ways" such as Raping Little Boys and Girls and seeking sex outside of his Holy Bond of Christian Marriage.
Sexual and Physical Abuse of his own Children is NOTHING NEW for the "Good Christian Man" and I am living PROOF of this!
I was just "Lucky" that my Mother's Husband didn't TOUCH ME Sexually, his FEAR of his own Masculinity saved me(and the Girls!) from that Horrific Nightmare, but I was Burned,Beaten and Battered DAILY from age 19 Months till age 15 by my "Good Christian Jesus Worshipping Daddy" and during that time he had EIGHT Extramarital "Affairs" with young Women from all over the Town we lived in beginning when I was age 5. His Love for a Bottle of Seagram's-7 Whiskey was greater than the Love of either his Wife or three Children. To Prove he was still a MAN he fucked every young "thing" in Town, all while professing to be a "Good Christian Family Man.It absolutally SICKENS ME to hear of this SHIT!
I hope this Christian Evangelical Nutcase gets "Life without the possibility of Parole". His fellow Inmates will "take care of this sick fuck" within one year of his Incarceration. Inmates who have Wives and Children at home don't take kindly to Pedophiles and Woman Killers and will see to it that this one is DEAD.

He could have run away, which is the most likely scenario. If that was the case the officers would not dare to discharge their weapons in a crowded church. Internal affairs would have had their asses for breakfast. He could have pulled a knife out of his robes and attacked the officers. He could have had an armed accessory in the congregation. He might have been able to steal a gun from an officer. Handcuffed prisoners have been able to do that. The possibilities are endless.

You don't know many cops, do you? The actions of that preacher would simply have reinforced their already low opinions of humanity. They would have enjoyed arresting him on the pulpit. It would have made their day. -
