"Do not come looking pretty," he said. "If you're too cute to put a little ash on your hands, stay home. If you're too cute to pray, stay home."
FYI: Langford wore his Rolex and designer shoes.
Langford is a hypocrite. He is under SEC investigation for taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from a lobbyist to pay off a personal debt (designer clothing) to a locally owned private business that was suing him.
He is under criminal investigation for starting a non-profit that was supposed to give laptop computers to inner city schools. Not a single laptop was ever donated to a school. The person Langford hired to run the nonprofit gave laptops to the children of his personal and wealthy friends. (FYI: There is already two national nonprofits that do this. Starting a third one locally was unnecessary.) Furthermore, the laptops were donated by Health South. Richard Scrushy, the owner and CEO of Health South who was indicted (and miraculously acquitted) on SEC violations, was covering up the dirty dealings within the nonprofit.
Langford did not meet the legal requirements to be placed on the mayoral ballot. The court upheld his election anyway.
Langford selected a site for the do(o)med stadium City Council has been trying to build for over 5 years despite the fact that the citizens have overwhelmingly voted against it three times!! The site he selected is owned by a close friend of his and is not even in the city limits. The purpose of the stadium was to replace the outdated arena and convention center located downtown. Now, the downtown area will be further blighted and economically disaffected.

Re: How to Reduce Crime -- Pray
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 8:13 AMKrampus,
Have you considered that with the whole city in an attitude of prayer, with their heads bowed and eyes shut, it is somewhat easier to pick their pockets, steal their cars and burgle their houses. Maybe Langford's got something--I just hope it isn't contagious.
With love under will,

Re: How to Reduce Crime -- Pray
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 1:14 PMIn addition to prayer the mayor has instructed the Police chief to start performing random ID and Insurance checkpoints around the city. One of my co-workers at my second job was arrested in one for a 3 year-old unpaid speeding ticket. He spent two days in jail before he could see the judge. Meanwhile another fellow who was caught with drugs (three Xanex pills without a prescription) which constituted a TASK and parole violation was ought of jail in six hours!!!
