Gallup Poll: Religion declining in influence

In other major findings, the percentage of Americans who believe that religion can answer society’s problems is at an all-time low, with only 53 percent saying religion “can answer all or most of today’s problems.”

With religion losing it's power to "answer all or most of today's problems" one would think they would slink back into their dark, dank caves to plan yet another scheme to gain power..... maybe that's why ALL of the hypocritical prevaricating liars and news "actors" at Faux News and nervous vote-like-we-say, but don't do-as-we-do evangelical charismatic religious leaders have combined forces to drive us over the cliff with their non-stop, ultra-right-wing propaganda..... they only appeal to the lowest common denominators and sadly, they have a dedicated audience of fellow repuglican tea-baggers to preach to... :)(:

I think in the past year that "dedicated audience" has been marginalized by real world events. The first one was the election of Obama despite the wishes of Faux News and the fundies. The other was the failed teabag protests which despite promotion by news radio, the GOP and Faux were quite small compared say to the wave of antiwar protests betweeen 2002 and 2003. Last months gay rights protest dwarfed the Washington DC teabag rally. Lastly the demonstrations at town hall meetings generated a backlash by supporters of health care reform and it appears likely that we will get a health care bill signed possibly with some sort of public option.

The danger I see is that some of the xenophobic, homophobic, racist and anti semetic riff raff that have been worked into a lather may become violent. Even though I thnk they will be vanquished I fear they could get some innocent people hurt or worse.

I agree -- the anger, hate-talk, scapegoting, gay bashing, immigrant-bashing, etc. is so far over the top now, that it's clearly become pathological. Hate radio and FAUX News are deliberately "whipping-up" their audiences into a frenzy, then when one of their fist-clenching follower's cracks and acts out violently, they immediately DENY anything to do with it.. Case in point - the abortion doctor in Kansas who was murdered in cold blood in his own church by one of those "doing god's work" Randell Terry followers.... BTW, O'Reilly on FAUX News repeatedly called the abortion doctor a "baby killer" and a "murderer" then he blithely denies and deflects any responsibility for the cold-blooded murder of the doctor. I certainly hope that the ultra-far-right-wing are becoming more and more marginalized - perhaps that's why they are screaming louder and louder? So if all this is true - how is it that Faux News and hate-radio are enjoying their highest ratings ever? :)(:
