"PHOENIX — A sauna-like sweat lodge at an Arizona resort meant to provide spiritual cleansing became a crime scene Friday after two people died and others became ill during a two-hour session inside the crude structure.
In all, 21 of the 64 people crowded inside the sweat lodge Thursday evening were transported to hospitals. Four remained hospitalized Friday evening — one in critical condition and the others in fair condition."
*****
Self-help expert and author James Arthur Ray rented the facility as part of his "Spiritual Warrior" retreat that began Oct. 3 and that promised to "absolutely change your life." The schedule had few details about what participants could expect, other than thrice-daily meals and group gatherings that started at 7 a.m. and ended 16 hours later.
*****
Some participants told detectives they paid up to $9,000 for the event. In a testimonial on the Angel Valley retreat's Web site, Ray said it "offers an ideal environment for my teachings."

Re: New Age Con Artist Causes Two Deaths
Sun, October 11, 2009 - 1:25 PMIt takes all kinds to make a world. There's good money in feeding off of the stupid. They got what they paid for and I hope it can serve as a lesson to those looking for what doesnt exist and ghost hunting in an imagined "spiritual" realm. Believing the snake oil salesmen, preachers, shamen, gurus, priests, popes, rabbi's and other "spiritual" leaders is a fast road to nowhere and the people that waste their lives on that bullshit get exactly what they deserve, a life of nothingness (And a collection of wothless old texts). Misery loves company and that is why they troll and insist on passing their nothingness onto others. All the while they are passing the collection plate.Ha!Ha! The sheeple just never get it... -

Re: New Age Con Artist Causes Two Deaths
Sun, October 11, 2009 - 1:49 PMI realized recently that shamanism has become a widespread fad in new age circles. In fact these days shamans are a dime a dozen. One shaman I encountered was fond of saying "there is no such thing as a coincidence" I doubted this until I realized that the word sham comes right before the word shaman in the dictionary. No coincidence there.

Sun, October 11, 2009 - 2:56 PMANYTHING "spiritual" requires belief in that which can not be proven or substantiated, and it leaves the believer at the mercy of imagined ideologies and the scam artists that perpetuate them.
<<<"there is no such thing as a coincidence" >>>
How could he possibly know this?Ha!Ha! Of course that is a rhetorical question, but it illustrates how these ignorant people take these imagined ideas and try to pass them off as fact. Just like that makeshift sweat lodge. The depth of some peoples ignorance is amazing sometimes. -

P. T. Barnum said "there's a sucker born every minute..." at some point, as our culture continues to evolve - it may indeed go the way of the movie "IDIOCRACY." But, I still cling to the belief that in spite of all of the ignorance and stupidity - logic and intelligence will somehow manage to reign supreme.
Speaking of intelligence - I've just read that Glen Beck and Rush Limpballs have refused to get their annual flu shots "because the gov't told them to do so..." Maybe I will need to revise my hope for the future afterall! :)(:

Good one Adam!!! :)(: . everytime I see a videoclip of him extolling his hate and hypocrisy to all of his fist-waving dittoheads, along with the fact that he earns $40 million dollars a year - is enough to make one hurl chunkZ. Limpballs wants to buy an NFL team - the St. Louis Rams. The players are completely AGAINST it! :)(: Wonder what would make all of those NFL players be so against the bigot Limpballs owning their team? :)(: -

"Critics are citing the sweat lodge tragedy as evidence that Ray is a charlatan who is not to be trusted. A relative of one victim accused Ray of exhibiting a "godlike complex" during the event that he said recklessly abandoned the safety of participants. Dedicated followers say they fully trust Ray to lead them through exercises that greatly improve their lives.
Shawna Bowen, once a James Ray fanatic who was among those who tended to the ill, has had a change of heart since the deaths.
"I could not imagine people looking to him after he made such egregious errors with human life," she said. "I don't think he has the right to be leading others right now. I think he needs to take a good look at where his ego, where his power trip got in the way"
I have met scam artists like Ray before and since I became active in the skeptics movemment. People like this have towering egos and no hesitation at all to rip people off. As mentioned in an earlier article this man claims to be follwing some Native American sweat lodge ritual. Real Native American spiritual leaders do not charge people for their rituals. Ray charged $9,000 a person for something that is worthless.

Re: New Age Con Artist Causes Two Deaths
Fri, October 16, 2009 - 3:57 PMThey both have a sort of fundamentalism that creates hostility to inquiry. The most widespread belief among new agers must be astrology. If you ask why or how the positions of planets at the moment of birth influnce our lives the stock answer is "well they just do."
Even though astrology has failed every single objective test ever preformed. It becomes an article of faith like the divinity of Jesus is to Christians.
Another trait that fundamentalists have in common with new agers is a knee jerk rejection of science because science cannot prove the existence of God and it can clearly disprove new age nonsense like crystal power or remote viewing.
This quote by the late Dr. Sagan's book "Demon Haunted World" comes to mind:
"Science is more than a body of knowledge; it is a way of thinking. I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grand children's time-when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstitions and darkness." -

I loved Carl Sagan. I remember as a young lad glued to the tv when Cosmos came on. And then the next day we would go out to the field and launch rockets. He was nearly personally responsible for me entering Aviation Maintenance with and eye on Aerospace Engineering.
And then came the drugs.......
Now i flip burgers and am glad I'm not dead. -

Sun, October 18, 2009 - 10:08 PMAdam,
<I wonder why Peter is not defending this murderer too?>
Who do you think is a murderer?
<American Indian sweat lodges typically hold a maximum of 12 people.
People have died in sweat lodges in the past. They were either sick tribal elders who voluntarily stayed until they died or people who had heart conditions and were in poor health.
"The sweat lodge needs to be respected," Bruchac said. "When you imitate someone's tradition and you don't know what you are doing, there's a danger of doing something very wrong.">
Maybe what killed them was a lack of respect for spiritual tradition and ignorance. Ha!Ha! -

Yep defending every murderer that is posted here. From the kids acused of being witches in Africa and the albinos murdered for the witch doctors cutting their arms and legs off to the christian occult bitches that pray their children to death instead of getting them medical care, Peter is there for them. After all, that is what yahweh is all about. THE WAY is to murder every swinging dick that dont agree with religion. So you advocate Jim Jones and David Koresh. I'm just goddamned sure you'd find a way to defend Jeffery Dahmmer too. So rave on cat shit, they'll bury you one day. Then you will see you lived a goddamned lie.Ha!Ha!
What's funny is the sweat lodge works much in the same way fasting does. When your body dehydrates and robs moisture from the brain or has to feast on toxins left over from what used to be nutrients, one tends to hallucinate...Ha!Ha! Just like the delusions of some goddamned diety governing and creating things.
Keep defending murderous bullshit Peter, because it is exactly what we expect of the goddamned occult...

<<flip burgers...>>
I just read an article in the NYT about burgers, ground beef and the "beef mash" that get's added to "enhance" the beef flavour! It appears that most ground beef is scrap and trimmings from the area of the cow that has the most "fecal contamination," with the "beef mash" added into the mixture afterward. Our typical supermarket ground beef is usually an amalgam of assorted beef parts from around the world, mostly UNINSPECTED... Thanos - maybe u could switch over to flipping fresh-caught Alaska salmon patties!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)(:
