Sad news and happy news

For those who might not have heard there is both sad and happy news from this weekend,

At July Coronation our Most Noble Kingdom lost one of her members, His Lordship Ciaran Cluana Ferta.
His voice could often be heard announcing match ups in the erics at tourneys, or helping with town cry, court or around a bardic circle sharing stories of our realm. A talented herald and bard, he will be missed by many.

The good news is that Sgt Squire Rodrigo Othello de Grenada has been placed on vigil for Knighthood by Their Majesties at this same event. As far as I know a date has not been chosen for his ceremony.

The Gypsy Carnival will keep you on your toes as they tempt you with shiny objects and captivate you with their jovial attitudes toward the world.

It is with not one but two Gypsy Parades that we shall celebrate all throughout SeaDogs, this wonderful get-together of friends from all over. Bring your noise-makers, booty-shakers and everything shiny you can get your hands on to be a part of this plethora of gypsies and pirates, and know for sure that the cannons are not the only bang-up performance on site!

Al-Arwah Performing this Thursday

Al-Arwah is a Middle Eastern band that plays for belly dancers. We
perform around the Portland area and the Northwest.

Those of you who were at the demo this last Saturday in Ridgefield got a
preview of what the music is like. Now imagine it with a full Middle

I wanted to let you all know about this event. It's not SCA it's Pagan, but the Main Solstice Ritual is Norse this year and I thought some of you might be interested. (I was known in the SCA as Schellin deAlencon, but I haven't been around for a few years.)

Period Breastfeeding Garb - a question...

Hi! I've been looking online for a few days now to find information and patterns for breast-feeding friendly garb. I've found some, but have found that no one seems to have either patterns or a merchant who would sell them.

SO - I've been making alterations of my own to garb, and at the last event, I got LOTS of comments from women who wanted to know where I'd gotten them... Now, I am asking the following question to those who may be interested:

If either easy-to-use patterns or pre-sewn garments were available for purchase, that were nursing-friendly, would you be interested in purchasing them?

Depending on the response, I'm seriously considering making both and offering them for sale through the SCA...

Grand Thing III land reservations

Does your Barony, Shire, Fighting Company, Household, Camp Group, Etc... need camping space reserved at the Grand Thing III?

If so please contact the Land-o-crat, HL GaeiRa Runfastsdottir by May 15th so that she may get you on the list. They are not taking reservations for single tents at this time, but are taking reservations for group camping (include dimensions needed in your request) as well as for RV spaces, though those are limited and will be reserved on a first come first served basis.

The site has changed since the last Grand Thing, in response to the wind issue. The event will be held at the Columbia County Fairgrounds in St. Helens, Or. It is a good idea, though not required, to pre-reg for this event as it will help to get you through gate faster. Please see the Barony of Stromgards website, or the Kingdom Calendar for links to the event copy. It is going to be a great event!

Attention: NEW SITE!

The Barony of Stromgard and the Village of Bjorgvin would like to invite
you the Third Grand Thing. This will be a period event focusing on the
Nordic and Irish traditions of the Viking era with fighting, contests,
games, and a Grand Feast! There will be a Multi-Weapons Tournament with a
Master Grendal Damascus Sax as the prize, a Memorial Axe Tournament, and a
Monastery Raid where you keep what booty you can escape with! We will
have period classes available on many subjects. There will be contests
in: Archery, Equestrian, KUUB, caber toss, and much more. We will repeat
the siege-cooking contest “Barbarians at the Gate”. Bring whatever you
need to feed 20 warriors and maybe they will go away, leftovers will be
used at Saturdays potluck feast, contributions divided by modern last
name: A-F: Bread/Cheese; G-L: Side Dish/Vegetables; M-S: Main Dishes; T-Z:
Deserts/Fruits. After the feast we will be holding a traditional Norse
“Thing”, a gathering where laws are made and conflicts are resolved.
There are many contests and games for kids of all ages, so come join us.
Site has water, electricity, and bathrooms with showers.

Site opens 12pm on Friday closes 1PM Monday.

Site fee: Adults-$15.00 (add $3 for non-members) , Children-12- 17 $5.00,
under 12 free, Family Cap $40. Day-pass $5.00.

The Rules of Pirate Karaoke

1: YOU WILL TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT PIRATE KARAOKE.

2: YOU WILL TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT PIRATE KARAOKE.

3: IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST PIRATE KARAOKE, YOU HAVE TO TRY TO SING!

4: NO WEAPONS, REAL OR FAKE, SHALL BE BROUGHT TO PIRATE KARAOKE. These things take place at bars, people, not SCA events or Cons. Special exceptions may be made if the PK event takes place in a rented establishment, and if so, it will be announced. The reason for this rule should be self-explanatory, but I'll explain anyway. Weapons and alcohol don't mix well, particularly if the uninitiated (mundanes) are about. They do not understand us, and the majority of them are not willing to take the time to learn. They'll simply call the authorities, or take matters into their own hands, and we don't want the trouble.

5: NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL OR OTHER BEVERAGES SHALL BE BROUGHT TO PIRATE KARAOKE. This is the real world, where the lawless go to jail for real, and businesses can get shut down for real. By violating this rule, you run the risk of either or both these things happening.

6: MAINTAIN CONDUCT APPROPRIATE FOR PUBLIC VIEWING. It's okay to get a little rowdy, but for the sake of people whose virgin eyes can't handle seeing someone do what they wish they could do, please do not grope, goose, cop feels, or otherwise touch anyone in an inappropriate manner. This can get us thrown out of the bar.

7: THERE SHALL ALWAYS BE A TWO DRINK MINIMUM, DESIGNATED DRIVERS BEING THE ONLY EXCEPTIONS. In the past, one of the chief complaints has been that the bar wasn't making any money on the Pirates and Gypsies. While you may think of this as a sob-story motivated by the greed of a seedy establishment owner, try to think of it this way: It's a business, and businesses need to profit to survive. If you are only singing and getting water, the bar doesn't make money off you. A crowded house is no good if the crowd isn't paying, and we want the establishment to stay open to us.

8: ALSO, IT HELPS TO TIP THE STAFF. THEY WORK HARD, SO GIVE THEM THEIR DUE. THE KJ VIRTUALLY NEVER GETS TIPPED! TRY TO REMEMBER THAT YOU WOULDN'T WANT TO DO THE KJ'S OR ANY OF THE OTHER STAFF'S JOBS FOR WHAT THEY GET PAID.

There are members who are involved with NATO and hold important positions in the US administration, etc. They hold an extremely harsh stance against the East, especially with Russia because of its Christian Orthodox heritage. They exterminate/demolish any opposition.

An enemy going back thousands of years is head quatered in China (the Himalayas/Tibet). The Seljuks come from that region, who are the ancestors of the Turks, who attacked and oppressed Christian Orthodoxy in Asia Minor and Greece. The Turks/Jews have tried many times to wipe out the Greeks and Christian Orthodoxy. In the Himalayas there is a glass pyramid (Sambala), it has many entrances. This is where the White Brotherhood is based. It's aim is to destroy all the world's religions except its own. It has more power than the U.S.A. It has more resources at its disposal than all the governments in the world. It has infiltrated and controls many governments and religions (Roman Catholics, Protestants and Judaism). The First and Second World Wars were masterminded by them. They are going to start the Third World War too. The White Brotherhood works with the Bildeberg club and all the others. They are assisted by the Zionists. They created Hitler and introduced the Swastika (broken cross, that is what it means). Hirohito of Japan was responsible for a massive bloodbath, but he was not punished like the others, after the Second World War because he was a member of the world ruling 3 member group mentioned above. Grey Wolves (Turkish Muslims), are connected to the White Brotherhood. Only Grey Wolves members may rule Turkey. But do not despair, if you are a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ because He has defeated Satan and the world.

driving to Pennsic

Greetings,

My summer plans have changed, and I find myself getting prepared to head Pennsic.

I have to haul out a large amount of gear for our encampment, so I must drive. I will have room for at least 1 passenger and gear. My encampment will be covering most of my gas, so I am not looking so much for help in that department, but rather just someone who needs a way out who is willing to take some shifts driving (so it doesn't take me a week!)

I will be headed out early to be there for the whole 2 weeks, and then trying to make it back ASAP for a whole week before preparing for BM. let me know if you are interested.

The Grand Thing

The Barony of Stromgard and the village of Bjorgvin would like to invite you
the Second Grand Thing. This will be a period event, May 25-28, 2007,
focusing on Norse and Irish traditions of the Viking era with fighting,
contests, games and a Grand Feast! There will be a multi-weapons
tournament, a Viking raiders’ tournament of ships, and a monastery raid
where you keep what booty you can escape with. There will be contests in,
axe/spear throwing, archery, wrestling and more. We will repeat the
siege-cooking contest “Barbarians at the Gate” the Norsemen are coming!
Bring whatever you need to feed 20 warriors and maybe they will go away,
leftovers will be used at the feast. There will be many contests and games
for children of all ages, so come join us. Site has plentiful water,
electricity, a grand feast hall, and bathrooms with pay showers.

There is no separate fee for merchants, but you are welcome to make a
donation to the prize chest. Please note-This is true donation, not a thinly
disguised merchant fee, which means you choose what, if anything, to donate.
Contact the merchant crat for more information.

Site opens 1PM on Friday closes 1PM Monday.
Site fee: adults-$12.00 (add $3 for non-members), children-6-17-$6.00, under
6 free, family cap-$30. Day pass is $5.00. Make checks payable to Barony
of Stromgard.

A Young Pirates Death

Travis DuBois Age 7 A.K.A. trav died friday at 1 am
Trav was one of the greatest inspritations in my life..he struggled all through his life and one of his dreams was to be a Rapier fighter and Pirate
Trav was disabled and has had many medical problems through-out his life.
He Was supposed to come to Sea Dog Nights this year and be the Honorary Asst Marshal In Charge....
I have been Talking with the other staff members of Sea Dogs about Re-Naming the Tourney The Travis Dubois Memorial Sea Dog Tournament

Does the Kingdom have an anthem or Kingdom march? Does your Pricipality or Barony have one? And if not, why not? This is AS 41. Music was, and is a big part of ceremony, but I haven't really seen it used like it could be. A royal procession into court should be a matter of great pomp and ceremony, not 'Oh, here they come.' Let's up the musical ante, pry the musicians out of the woodwork and put them to work. I for one am ready and willing to take this on. Anyone else out there up for this?

Lost Flag - (posted several places)

Greetings I am the Dread Pirate Kitten (as most of you know)

At seadog my flag was stolen (as expected at a pirate event) - it is black with a kitten skull and a flogger and crop crossed underneath in silver and edged in purple.

What wasn't expect is for it not to be returned and for no one to seemingly know what happened to it.

I have heard some rumors of people possibly taking it and destroying it/throwing it away and I certainly hope that is not true. Money and Time went into making it.. and I hope that maybe if I put the word out - someone will come across and let me know that it is safe.

If you hear anything about it - a reward will be granted for it's safe return.

As my Lord Husband and I along with our children are planning on becoming active again in the knowne world, we have decided to change our traditional personas. I am curious as to the current fashion of such. As I recall it was all things celtic and unpronouncable, and Scottish at 3yc. Around 1990 it seems the fashion was either Irish(of all periods) or late Rennasaince French. Which way do the winds blow these days?

I would love to know what you think are the top 3. Not neccisarily world wide but at least An Tir-wise. And of course a comparison would be most welcome.

Autumn War 2006

Hey if you liked the forty year site, come on back in September for Autumn War 2006.

Autumn War is going to be huge this year just think no noise requirements and plenty of room for everyone.

Cost is 19 dollars for the four days that 7 dollars to Barony of Blatha An Oir and 12 dollars to the site owner.

The big new event for this war will be the 5 man army tournement it will be a round Robin contest and the winners will be able to hang their teams banner in the Tavern on site.

In his book "Pirates & The Lost Templar Fleet," David Hatcher Childress claims that the term was coined after the first man to fly the flag, King Roger II of Sicily (c.1095-1154). Roger was a famed Templar who had a public spat with the Pope over his conquests of Apulia and Salerno in 1127. Childress claims that, many years later after the Templars were disbanded by the church, at least one Templar fleet split into four independent fleets that dedicated themselves to pirating ships of any country sympathetic to Rome. The flag was thus an inheritance, and its crossed bones are an obvious reference to the original Templar logo of a red cross with blunted ends.

The earliest documented incidence of piracy are the exploits of the Sea Peoples who threatened the Aegean in the 13th century BC. In Classical Antiquity, the Tyrrhenians and Thracians were known as pirates. The island of Lemnos long resisted Greek influence and remained a haven for Thracian pirates. The Latin term pirata, from which the English "pirate" is derived, derives ultimately from Greek peira "attack, attempt", cognate to peril. By the 1st century BC, there were pirate states along the Anatolian coast, threatening the commerce of the Roman Empire. When Sulla died in 78 BC, Julius Caesar returned to Rome as a lawyer, prosecuted Sulla's supporters, and headed to the Greek town of Rhodes to study oratory. Early Polynesian warriors attacked seaside and riverside villages. They used the sea for their hit-and-run tactics - a safe place to retreat to if the battle turned against them.

SeaDog Nights

I just wanna let everyone know that I am the new MIC for the Rapier activities at SeaDog Nights 2006
I am looking for all the ideas and help I can get
water bearers, Marshalls, ect
I would also like to know what everyone would like to see in a tourney......
I want to make this the People of SeaDogs Tourney..you're fighting in it..tell me what you wanna do!!!!!!!!!

Just home from Coronation

Greetings,
I am new to this tribe, but not to the SCA. Been playing since 90. (Seems like just yesterday I went to my first Egils)
Anyway, I just got home from Coronation and wanted to thank all the folks who were there and added to the atmosphere! It was an awesome event for me, met new folks, visited with old friends... the usual. The weather was fabo, the view to die for, and the food at the vigils I went to... yummm.
I look forward to reading more on this tribe.

AnTir/West War

Greetings all,
As some of you may know it is that time of year again, where the
kingdoms of AnTir and The West meet on the field of battle to do
honorable combat at AnTir/West War. It promises to be a good time. If
you do plan on attending there are a few festivities that may be of
interest:
After the fighting has concluded on Saturday and the sun makes its way
into the western end of the sky Their Royal Majesties of both kingdoms
will be joining together to celebrate the friendship of these two
great kingdoms. First on the agenda will be a feast to honor TRM & TRH
and the fighters of the day. The feast will take place in front of the
West Royal Pavilion and will be potluck style. All in attendance at
the war are invited to join in and are asked to bring a dish to serve
8-12 people and their own seating. Rumor has it that TRM of the West
may even be bringing a pig to roast and share. Once everyone has
finished filling their bellies the games will begin and I mean this
literally. Post-feast activities will include a fundraiser to
replenish both kingdoms Royal travel funds. There will be a casino
with period gaming. Tokens will be sold at the casino for a small fee
and can then be gambled at the casino tables. There will be prizes
that will be bid on later for those of the populace who have a lucky
night. In addition to the casino there will be 2 kegs present for your
drinking pleasure, alcohol distribution has nothing to do with the
fundraiser, but donations will be gladly accepted to pay the good
gentles back who sprung for the kegs. We will be carding and stamping
hands for alcohol, so if you look under 35 be sure to bring your ID!!

Ok, boys and girls. Who is going to raise their hand and assume the duties of moderator for this tribe? All ya gots ta do is volunteer! Think of the fame, fortune and groupies! THink about them all you want because this job doesn't have any of those.

Panter Regent for sale, new totaly unused tent/package

Last year we bought a 16x16 Panther Regent thinking we would camp, then we sold our house, moved to Vancouver (WA) and now we are looking for a house to buy . . . not going to camp!
So here it is
16X16 Regent Full package, set-up sod cloth, Flu, with King Arthur scallops with black trim. Never used, set-up completly without blemish.
Cost was 1188.00, 1217.65 with shipping. We are asking 1050.00
We can't take checks, payments or trade (unless we are buying your house) so please don't ask us to.

Hi,
I am currently trying to find any links, research, information, etc. on what a middle eastern dancer would wear in SCA period. I am working on creating a handout/booklet for ME dance/costuming classes. The purpose of which will be to provide those new to the persona/dance a basic idea of what is and is not appropriate attire for public performance at SCA events. Any help, ideas, suggestions you can provide are greatly appreciated.
