Just plain ol' foot and leg ones, not gas. Seems it'd be easier than a bike, take up less space...but I haven't, in all my googling, come across any pics or anecdotes of people who use them.

Sat, July 4, 2009 - 8:33 AMIf you mean scooters on the playa I'd predict that the wheels are too small, so most years they would not do well in the dust. -

Re: Scooters
Sat, July 4, 2009 - 10:33 AMYup. You need some kind of knobby tire to get through most of the playa. Even during good surface years. Something more like this:

Mon, July 6, 2009 - 7:22 AMGotcha. That pic is interesting, guess they stand up, to pedal?
My costumes aren't really bike friendly...I'll just have to polish my art car thumb. :P -

Re: Scooters
Mon, July 6, 2009 - 7:15 PMI broke the pedal off a bike one year, and couldn't pedal. So, I stood on the other pedal, and kicked around. I wouldn't recommend it.

Re: Scooters
Mon, July 6, 2009 - 9:37 PMThat's actually a wind-up pedal on one side. You pump it to make the rear wheel spin. -

Re: Scooters
Tue, July 7, 2009 - 11:47 AMyeah, it ratchets and has a spring to pull the pedal back up. So when you push it down, it adds energy to the wheel. When you let it up, it pulls back up and the rear sprocket freewheels back.
I brought a regular push scooter in 2003. It worked totally fine. of course, it was designed and built with 26" X-cross wheels.
Razor scooters would be absolutely useless (as scooters) anywhere other than the roller rink.

Who cares if they aren't popular. Be the guy who starts a trend.
Personally, I love the idea.
