be spinning breaks, trance and whatever general consensus demands (requests are subject to a beer tariff). If you have a special song that you would like to spin to, you can contact me through tribe and I will relay the request to Troi. We are planning on making this happen every other Saturday.

This is a loosely evolving gathering, there has been some talk about continuing the party at another location after we get the boot from the beach at about 10:30-ish. We are content to let this develop homeopathically. If you have any suggestions they will be duly considered and appreciated.

Okay, not trying to sound pedantic but if you are planning to spin fire this week bring your own duv or towel for saftying. Looking forward to seeing everyone there. Have a great week : )

Location: Dockweiler State Beach
In the firepit closest to the entrance shack. If we don't get that pit, look for the three tiki torches and/or rapidly spinning flames.
Time: Sundown til 10:30-ish
Saturday February 24th
There is a $5.00 charge to park in the lot, otherwise you can park on the street but you have to be gone by 10:00p.m. (they are lightning quick with the ticket writing. Beware!!!)

So we're ready this week, yeah?

Even if you don't feel like it, you are. All i ask this week is that you at least hold it while it's on fire. Anything else is up to you. This will break the seal on the unknown of it beeing en fuego.

This weeks practice is in venice, we;ll be sneaking in on Phoneix projekt time, so please be there by 8 so we can light directly at 9 so as not to disrupt practice too much.

Please bring fuel, Colemans camping fluid (white gas) is best and can be found at big 5, wal-mart, etc.

Clothing. Denim cotton, leather, natural fibers. No loose flowy stuff, no manmade fabrics. Sleeves are your friend at this point. A knit cap will save your hair a whole bunch. (speaking from experience) Good shoes, no open toes. (Llisa)

GATHER TOGETHER

When: August 7th, 2005 from midday until they kick us off the beach
Where: Dockweiler State Beach (more exacting details and timing forthcoming).
(We’ll make a flag or something too….) (We’re just arguing on who gets there early to save a fire ring…we’ll work it out soon enough…)..
Why: Because
Who: you and your cool friends
What: a beach party collective opportunity: beach stuff in the day..then the sun sets….

Pack up your cars with your fun stuff and come join us at the beach! It’s a celebration of August: summer in the city, only weeks left to the burn for those of you who are going and just a great weekend to gather together.

Bring your drums – we’ll start a circle.
Bring your fire – it’s Dockweiler!

What to think about bringing and what all that might happen that’ll you’ll need stuff for:

Drums, bellydance stuff, bellydancers, artists, kites, beach stuff, ocean proof items, things that look good covered in sand, sandcastle making stuff, wood and things to burn, poi. staff and hoops, spinners, staffer and hoopers, sunblock, food to cook over fires, coolers with ice and drinks, towels, costumes, cabana boys, hula girls, sports stuff, chill items and friends.

Let’s just do it. We’ll dance for you if you drum for us. What a great way to end a Weekend!

list of moves, and a heads up for this thursday

Ok ya'll. So it's time we slowed down our voracious gobbling up of new skills, and worked on linking the ones wwee do have togeher.

So if you have the luxury of practice time this week. spending time learning the 180 pivots while spinning, and really dialing in the moves we've learned already will help greatly.

Visualisation is also a great tool. See yourself spinning easily with smooth flow in your mind. This lets your big brain know what your desired end result looks like, and it can be working on it while you're otherwise occupied.

So to represcence them,

We've got the forward (thumb leading) weave or figure 8, the pinky leading, (upwards)

the two handed weave. (the one where it winds up on your side, then you cross it over and wind it up on the other side)

The rotor.

The behind the back pinwheel thingy.

the repeating hand wrap. (rolls over the back of your hand.

The up-up-down-down weave. Regular weave with the back hand extra spin in back and the cocking in front. (gotta come up with a better word...)

The horizontal overhead rotor.

What else am i forgetting?

Ok, that was a total blast!! And to think, my Thursday evenings are usually filled w/ happy hour antics!

So here are my questions:

1. what are the things on the end of the staff called?
2. where do i get them, or do i even need them at this point?
3. was that a beer koozy at the end protecting the ends?
4. i gather we are suppose to be able to execute the moves w/ both hands, not just our dominate one?

In answer to an obvious question, yes we will be lighting up. We'll cover safety aspects, what to do when you catch, (and you will) and all other contingencies.

I'm thinking we'll head down to dockweiler, possibly in conjunction with Hannah and Kam's poi classes.

Most likely this will happen in a few weeks. Let's get in some more practice time, but I believe in getting the first burn in as soon as it makes sense from a safety standpoint. That way your not thinking about what it's like with fire, when you could be laughing at how easy it is, right?

Also, I know more than a few of you will want to be en fuego for that weird hippie festival in the desert. What's it called? Boring man?

One of the best things we can be doing at this point is working those weaves and pivot steps. Being able to move unconsciously with a spinning staff is what creates great performances.
