ummm, well, this really isn't as cool as the title makes it out to be, but I was goofing around with some buddies in my living room, having a bit of a party for my 24th birthday, and I decided it would be cool to bust out the vinyls, cobble together some junky equipment, and try to DJ a bit. I'm by no means a DJ, my thing's producing, it always will be, but I love slappin' wax, I gotta say. So I recorded a jungle mix that you all might enjoy (I hope). It's sloppy, but damn, I had fun.

Recorded into Ableton, with a Technics SL 1210 MkII turntable, a Numark DM1002 2-channel mixer, and a reeeeally old LP player that has no pitch control, no drive control (actually runs on a belt drive haha), and it wobbles and jumps like a 3 year old on acid. Yeeeeah, that's my excuse for my sloppy moves on the decks. Here's the tracklist:

I called the album "Mind Bombin" not because im blowin people minds. Its is an ode to my youth growing up on the streets of the UK as a Graffiti deviant and yet it reflects the shifts in my socio/spiritual political outlook as i made my way out of the streets to the west coast of America.

BOMBIN; A QUICK CRASH COURSE IN DEVIANCY.

"Bombin" is a term used to describe going out and painting illegaly on a wall, train or some other form of private property. Bombin is a kind of fugitive act, claiming your personal presence amongst a landscape dominated by control and ownership. My crew and i known locally as T.C.K. (The Creative Kings) would go out on early morning Bombin raids to paint our newly created artwork on some pristine wall. The rush and feeling of accomplishment was addictive (as was dodging police), pushing the boundaries and refusing to live under the rule of law. The word would spread and before too long other Graffiti artists would come and check your work, creating both notoriety and respect. I was amongst an underground network of renowned artists that included the likes of Goldie (the now Drum & Bass icon), Madtempa (TRS) and Desire (TWC) to name a few.
In hindsight being engaged in this form of subversive activity gave me chance to look at and challenge the way our actions are governed and controlled. Most of us tend to simply accept these laws, unconsciously being given our prompts in life from a governing agent. Without challenging and in some cases breaking these laws we have no chance of discovering our own parameters as human beings and the full extent of our power. Our city streets,for example, the space some of us choose to inhabit, do not belong to us but those who govern us. We are in fact alienated from our own surroundings and our connection to time, place and earth. Individuality and personal presence are kept to a minimum in favour of efficiency and speed. The act of "Bombin" reclaims your space within the city and turns that which alienates and subjugates you into your freedom and your platform for expression.

MIND; DO YOU OWN YOURS?

Last year i went to hear a talk given by Chuck D, Public Enemys front man at Standford University. It was all great but one thing he said stood out to me.....

"Mind is the new Real estate of the 21st Century".

That stopped me dead in my tracks. Our attention is constantly being pulled at and fought for. Even if it for a split second if they have your attention they have you. Corporations and companies are constantly looking to set up shop in our minds with extensive media campaigns that play with subtle and not so subtle subconscious drives. In the same way that our physical space is controlled so too is our psychic space. In this type of environment i believe it is more important than ever to create autonomy over our own minds. The Mind is the last bastion of individual freedom, physical space being subjugated to the rule of law. But the more we let these influences into our minds and shape our behavior the more we surrender our sovereignty over ourselves.

This album for me is no different from those early morning bombin raids but instead of a pristine wall the territory instead is that of "Mass Mind", our collective psychic body, a landscape which is becoming more and more controlled by big business and less about the individual. Its definitely not about "blowin peoples minds" (i mean, please, im not that cheesy) but if it does that for you.....wicked. Its about the individual fugitive act of reclaiming personal power in the face of forces which do not want you to discover the fullest extent of your power, but to tap into it, siphon it off and redirect it. The mind when focused, empty (you try emptying your mind) and calm has no limits. You can do anything, make anything happen....truly......

.....but how deep does the rabbit hole go?

What I like about Drum and Bass are the well produced, fast, aggressive, dark lows, twisted lead/bass sounds... the key is I am looking for CD's to purchace that are NOT MIXED, and it would be nice to be able to listen before hand.... any reccomendations? Hello everyone. If you are in a band or just making music on your own and wondering how to distribute it - this post applies to you. My friends and I (musicians in our own right) have an online mp3 store called Fake Science. Focusing on independent artists and labels, we offer a free site where bands like you can put your music up for sale. We pass 60% of gross sales directly back to you, allow you to administer your own releases, tracks, track samples, and bio info. We also show you your sales with geographic data showing you where your music is selling.

While the rest of the industry is motioning to charge more and more for digital music, Fake Science is charging less. We sell digital full-length albums for $5, and EPs for $2. The low price and the high percentage back to the artist tells your customers (we call them patrons) that they are not getting ripped off and that most of the money is going to the important people, namely you.

Hello everyone. My name is Mike Brown, orginator of the Promoters Heaven Tribe.

When I first created this tribe I wasn't sure of anyway to connect people soldily through the use of a internet. Well that has changed. With the creation of site like Myspace, Friendster these have become monsterous sites for networking with individuals and groups around the world. But something was still lacking. Which is why I returned back this TRIBE.

We have Dara and Reid Speed, two of Breakbeat Science's finest representing from coast to coast in a fucking warehouse. Can't beat that with a sack of nickels. Then there's my man Nightstalker, who is (in my opinion) the most entertaining dj in LA alongside MC XYZ...these two are a wicked combo consistently. MC Dino is breaking new ground with Rewind, a live D&B band that will have you headbanging without your conscious consent...and if you're into some of that live shit, Hakakian will once again be producing cutting edge material in front of your very eyes, and Deego's superb handling of wax will be accompanied by the lovely Sarah-Rae and her stringed electric axe. Sam-I-Am and DMXXII have been trekking their sound out to the nether regions of Santa Barbara and beyond for years...these guys know how to throw a fuckin' party...and you get 'em back to back. Plus my good friend Duro, in addition to making sure the party runs like a well oiled machine, will be on the decks making sure your feet and ass know it's a party! This month Silent will be featuring our first open decks night in quite a while, so roll through if you want to show your stuff. Don't fell like you get to play out enough? Want people to hear your sound without doing the 'awkward introduction' schuffle? Or do you just want to hear your home made tracks on a larger sound system? Whatever the case, come on down. Enthrall your friends, abash your enemies, hug your mom, make those impartial partial! There will be a sign up sheet so it'll be first come first served. You can sign up as much as you like, just not twice in row and everyone will play in the order that they signed up. The "slots" will be either 10 mins or five tracks, which ever comes first. If there's any confusion, come on by and all will be made clear. The nature of the entertainment also means that this will be a FREE party (except for the folks who think they're at Mighty).
