I may have to part with mine soon, since I no longer have a garage and San Francisco street parking is becoming too high a price to pay.
BUT I LOVE MY SAAB. So I'm torn. You understand, don't you? I knew you would.
If you own a Saab, or just wish you did, this here tribe's for you. (And if you have a burning desire to be the moderator for Saab Saab, step right up. I was just acting on a whim.

Re: Do you love your Saab?
Thu, November 27, 2003 - 10:02 AMI LOVE MY SAAB!!! I just got it, it is a 1989 900 two door hatch back and I can not believe how funit is to drive. It is in seriously good shape, the fellow I bought it from is a BMW mechanic at a nice shop so he seriously babied it. Oh the heated seat is so sweet in the winter!!!
I never even really looked at them until this one fell in my lap, and now I am almost thinking of seriously putting money into it (paint and the wee bit of rust removed).
Only thing is is mine has a performance muffler and it is a bit loud for my liking.
Wow can you pack a lot of stuff int the back of it. Beautiful cars indeed.

Re: Do you love your Saab?
Thu, November 27, 2003 - 1:49 PMmmm, until recently, I waas the proud owner of 30 years of saab engineering. I had a 1966 saab 95 that got me into this crazyness...then I bought a 1985 SAAB 900 4door for a daily driver for 300 or so and ended up putting a new transmission and ball joints, exhaust system, you know, making it road worthy....and since I was spending so much money, made friends at the local SAAB dealer. Well as luck would have it, a organization had dropped a 1989 900 3door off for work to be done and didn't like the estimate....they abandon the car...after a year or so I came along and got it for the repair bill. Kinda sweet, anyway, about 800 or so dollors I had a new car...and it was nice. Loved it so much, I gave my then wife the 4 door and drove the zoom zoom as it became know. I had been an avide Volvo nut for a long time and to drive this sporty little beast was a blast. Saddly, I got devorced and she took the 4 door with her, I got the 89 and 66. It became harder for me to maintain both cars and I ended up selling the 66 to the guy I bought it from. About this time, my ex rang me up and said the car didn't drive anymore...I took a look at it and smiled, she had busted the transmission with less then 12k miles on it. I offered to buy it for 300 bucks. She acepted, after cussing me up and down as any proper southern woman could. Long story short though, I got the car back fixed it up enought to drive again and put the 89 in the shop to have some major work done. New trans, timing chain, oil seals, hoses and what not to make the car run great. Bought new tires and got an extra set for the summer too. Had some problems with the heated seats though and am not sure I want to fix them. I should get the car out next week and am really looking forward to it. I am really bummed about having to give up the two stroke, but I still have driving privlages...it has been a strange two years with my cars, but I love'em none the less.

Re: Do you love your Saab?
Sun, February 1, 2004 - 6:51 AMI LOVE MY SAAB TOO. I drive 38 miles in rough terrain each way to work. By rough terrain, I mean the BQE, Triborough Bridge, Bruckner Expressway, and I-95 in New York City. But Marco ('03 9-3 Linear, cosmic blue) can handle it, and my drive is actually fun. On long stretches it's like butter, and in tight maneuvers, it's like an amuzement park ride. Sometimes I drive to work when I could work at home just to have time in my car. I feel like a fanatic, but this car simply rocks. Only complaints: wipers are eh, and overtaking at exactly 60 mph is tough (but super between 30 & 60). -

Re: Do you love your Saab?
Mon, April 12, 2004 - 7:35 AMJust ask my girlfriend about how much I love my SAAB. I think she is a little jealous at times even though my car resides 250 miles away from where I am currently living.
1993 Turbo Commemorative Edition #60 of 325 is such a great car. She's my first saab and definitely won't be my last. -

Re: Do you love your Saab?
Fri, July 2, 2004 - 3:40 PMI am a wanna-be-first-time buyer of a 91 sea-green turbo convertible...but it looks like someone else might have gotten to it first, damn.
Anyone know of a sweet older convertible in decent shape, anywhere near Seattle?

Re: Do you love your Saab?
Tue, October 12, 2004 - 1:02 PMOMG do I love my SAAB. It has a personality. I swear!!! Its a Black '87 900S w/ 270K -- and I want it to run FOREVER.
I am now facing a commute of 90 miles/day and too am torn as to what to do. How can I justify a 2nd car?
I went 5 years without seeing a mechanice between 1995 and 2000 (self employed) and it still ran great -- but now at 17 years... its an iffy proposition.
I can't see buying a new SAAB cause they have lost a lot of character when they were bought by GM. Such a dilemma. Anyone got any insight? -

Re: Do you love your Saab?
Sun, October 17, 2004 - 1:38 PMI own a 9-3 convertible and love love love it...it still feels "differnt". The ignition is still next to the parking brake where it should be, the dash is still higher like a cockpit and there is still the obsessive Swedish focus on safety and performance. But sadly having never owned a pre-GM Saab...I wouldn't notice many of the differences.
I still miss the old school quirky profile and the upright windshield, but GM probably applied a great deal of pressure on Saab to sizably increase market share...so many of the old quirks have been scrubbed to appeal to a larger audience.

Re: Do you love your Saab?
Thu, December 30, 2004 - 5:29 PMDo I love my SAAB ? well ... Much like a fair number of SAAB owners I've had a love/ hate relationship with my SAAB's .
The Green two-stroke wagon in the Photo album is the first SAAB I bought over ten year ago , you'll note I said first . Yep , You heard right I came back for more . five times to be exact .
Did I mention that my main mode of transportation is a bicycle ?
But seriously I've loved the hell out of all my SAAB's . It makes me a little sad that my next car won't be a SAAB , because as far as I'm concerned they might as well gone out of business when they discontinued the original 900 , And those old 900's are getting a bit long in the tooth . -

Re: Do you love your Saab?
Wed, February 16, 2005 - 7:19 AMFive!! Nice ;)
I am facing the dilemma of fixing/restoring my 89 900, or buying something new. Mine is getting a little rusty, and has over 350,000 km on it.
But i really really like the car. I wish it had cruise control, and air conditioning, and air bags, but other than that I love it. It's har to think of a new car outhtere that has anywhere near the amount of character.... -

Re: Do you love your Saab?
Wed, May 11, 2005 - 5:13 PMYeah I love it. I loved it even before I got mine. I had driven my aunts 900 turbo when I was young and was hooked. I miss my audi quattro just cause it handled so great but somedays I'll see a 900 hatchback and think "I want one of those" then I remind myself that I HAVE one of those already. So handy, no guilt, paid off and I can still get 30 mpg out of in the freeway if I take it easy. And if I get in a rush it just takes off. Sure airbags would be nice but I would prolly cry if I crashed this car. (Well it would hurt without the bags) So mine is a black 900 hatchback with Turbo and 5speed, it has limo tint in the back and is mostly stock except for the freeflow exhaust system, not too loud tho, just a touch throatey.170K miles and just passed the CA smog again. Besides what is there that I would rather "drive"? Ok so couple of weekends ago we went to Area 51 with 2 bikes and camping gear in this car. Sounds like an SUV? Big ass Sunroof is so freeing too. I almost always open the top and both windows.
