Hey all,
Another problem, whew!
I use a novation ReMOTE 25 LE USB midi keyboard controller, primarily with Cubase SX 3.
All well and good, but i get a pretty significant lag between hitting a note and hearing the sound from the VST plug in it's connected too (in Cubase). Makes it impossible to play anything live.
Bleh, Any suggestions?
My setup:
Box: Dell Dimension 8300 - 2.6 Gighz
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce FX 5200
Monitor: SyncMaster 941bw
Audio Card: SoundBlaster Live!
External Audio Device: Tascam US-122

Re: Lag problems with USB midi controller into Cubase
Wed, October 3, 2007 - 6:19 PMAlthought I am not terribly familar with Cubase I would suggest to check their user forums and do a search, I am sure that someone has had a similar issue.

Re: Lag problems with USB midi controller into Cubase
Fri, November 30, 2007 - 3:53 PMI'm guessing you're already well aware of this part, but just in case... this sure sounds like the soundcard buffer setting, where buffer size is inversely related to latency. So on my setup I change the soundcard's buffer size until the latency (as reported by Cubase) is under 20 ms or so. This is usually more than enough to ensure no discernable delay between key and sound. At least, not from the soundcard. I presume that a slow or overloaded CPU/memory prob could cause probs, though I haven't had that experience so can't comment. But looks like you're in good shape given your CPU speed. As long as you don't overload your RAM with lots of VST's simultaneously loaded (or use the "freeze" feature (I think) to deactivate those you're not using in order to free up memory) you should be fine in that department.
Have you tried this already? -

Re: Lag problems with USB midi controller into Cubase
Sat, December 1, 2007 - 5:45 AMactually... buffer size is *directly* related to latency... but of course you are correct about lowering the size! I suggest a buffer size of at least 12... or 6 ms if you can swing it. these correlate to 512 and 256 samples (at 44100) respectively.
