Updating my old Pro Tools

I have an old Pro Tools System; 24 Mix/Plus, (Vers 5.1.1). My single Mac G4 died, then, I removed the main hard drive with all the software inside, and installed it as a second hard drive in a dual G4 that runs both OSX and OS9.

Because I have a lot of plug-ins, I don’t want to switch to OSX and the new generation of Pro Tools like LE, because I won’t be able to use my plug-ins and the old hardware (audio interface), etc.

Besides, I have many Pro Tools sessions that I need to be able to keep working with.

What’s the newest PT version I can update to (OS9) and how I can get one?.

Am I doin’ well about all of this? I’m really confused.

Any help welcome.

What you are about to see is an evolution in film sound design far different from anything you‘ve heard before…

The Karas AMV

Anime Music Videos (AMV) are created by hobbyist who take a popular song and add it on top of existing Japanese Animation footage to give the Video a new and more exciting feel. The Karas AMV was created around the idea of taking found sources and samples from existing Japanese Animation titles and combining it with performances highly skilled musicians and Turntablist to recreate the film sound effect work creating a frenetic, hyper real approach to sound design. After the original sound track was removed, the music (Bass performance and Ableton sounds by J of The Opposite of Faith) was written and recorded into Ableton Live- every other voice, movement, moment and mood was created on Turntables and through Turntable mixing techniques (cutting, scratching, transforming) while performing to the video. The approach was expanded by having the Turntablist (DJ Quest and DJ Cplus) manipulating the Dave Smith Evolver and the Korg Kaoss Pad through the DJ mixers and MIDI control. Performances (Bass, Turntables) were record through the EMU 1616 into Ableton Live and warped, edited and combined there. The final mixdown was performed in Ableton Live and Mastered using Summit Audio Tube EQs.

This is the first in series of creative Music/Video/Art Projects by the Opposite of Faith-creativity without compromise…

I recently completed producing & mixing my 2nd track using Logic, & I guess I really had some stuff to express with this one, cause it clocks in at 11:05 in length, but I feel it is by far my strongest work to date, & I would really like to get some honest feedback on it, so if you feel so inclined, here is the link to download the MP3:
all I ask in return is that you offer some honest feedback, be it good, bad, or indifferent...just what you think of it.

thanks!!!

Hi and questions (xpost)

Hi all, I'm a for-fun musician (guitar, hand drums, bass) looking to start recording as a hobby and possbly a career move in the future (I'm a computer guy). I have picked up a couple of $10-15 mics to get started and have been recording using Audition 2.0 with the mic plugged directlly into my computer mic port. Although it's been fun to record my originals and play with myself (OMG, did I just say that?) I am looking to take it to the next level. I have a small amout of money available to invest in equipment (<$200). After perusing several websites I loceted this device:

www.zzounds.com/item--BEHXENYX1204FX

The reviews seem extremelly positive and it is in my price range, have any of you had personal experience with this item? I like this item cause It comes with a USB 2.0 audio interface in addition to being a board and having effects. It can record 4 tracks at the same time which should be plenty for me to start and has phantom power for when I get around to purchasing a condenser mic.

Also what do you guys think about Audition? Should I be saving up for something else?

Could anyone recommend any websites/books/magizines to help me learn more about this art?

logic's 'ultrabeat' vs fruity loops

i'm looking for someone with experience using both of these programs who can tell me how they differ.

i'm familiar with fruity loops as a sample-based drum sequencer and i'm looking for something similar on mac.

is ultrabeat the same in that i can sequence patterns using samples (that i've recorded) to make the rhythm track for an entire song (i.e. not just individual patterns that can be pasted into a track, but a long sequence of patterns to make a whole rhythm line from start to finish?).

thanks!

Hi,

I'm from a new sample library company called Digital Redux. We are throwing ideas around the studio as to what content we should develop for our next releases, and we thought that the best place to start would be to ask fellow producers what they are in need of, or can't get enough of, or want to see more of....

We have a bunch of release out now (Hip Hop Hotness, D&B 4 The Headz, Properly Chilled, Hacienda House & ElectroTech). If you'd like to check them out then download the free demo content - http://digital-redux.com/downloads.html

Anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers!

Software to read bit rates on cds?

I am converting a ton of old cds to my computer (eventually to land in itunes) and some of them aren't store bought, but burnt compilations. I want to see the bit rates of the tracks as they are on the cds without importing them, as I dont want to encode them as wavs if they are truly low quality mp3s, and dont want to set the bit rates higher than they originally are on the cd for mp3 conversion. Some of this stuff may be such poor quality that I should just throw them out. I cant tell by looking at the cd in itunes or by "exploring" through windows. Any ideas on how I can retreive this info? Is there a way to set itunes or to use any other ripping software to rip the tracks at their actual bitrates instead of designating a bit rate to rip is as? Thanks for any input.

Hey all,

Another problem, whew!

I use a novation ReMOTE 25 LE USB midi keyboard controller, primarily with Cubase SX 3.

All well and good, but i get a pretty significant lag between hitting a note and hearing the sound from the VST plug in it's connected too (in Cubase). Makes it impossible to play anything live.

Bleh, Any suggestions?

My setup:
Box: Dell Dimension 8300 - 2.6 Gighz
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce FX 5200
If I want to process a whole mix through a piece of outboard gear, what is the best way (using a Digi002R)?

Is there some way to send/return loop all the tracks through the outboard equipment while it is bouncing to disc?

...so i'm going blind from looking at a computer screen, and i have no real need for most plugins (looking into outboard stuff anyways), and the unlimited potential for tweaking and tracking has an indecisive libra like myself burning up time and calories when i could be outside playing in the mud.

i'm considering moving to a high end multitrack machine (like the korg D3200) to keep things simple and, dare i say it, 'limited.'
if i invest in some top notch outboard pres (UA 610s) and mics, and hand my mixes over to a pro studio for mastering, might i not still attain the same level of quality as i would doing the same with a digi002 rig? (please say yes - my eyeballs are begging you!)

any thoughts that would help me make an informed decision are most welcome. thanks!

so i've got a few children's books coming out in the fall, each with its own cd of music, and i need to have all the audio mastered by the end of august. i am toying with the idea of buying something like izotope ozone and doing it myself (i've been recording music for about 15 years as an amateur), however the releases are official, commercial, professional, so i am also considering seeking out an affordable mastering solution.

i would love to get some recommendations on who i should contact to get this audio up to red book standard, on a starving artist's budget. thanks!

dealing with the 'boom'

I'm almost ready to submit my mixes for mastering, but have run into a snag.

I'm mixing on very good monitors, but I have no sub-woofer, so can't monitor the lower end. My mixes sound great on small systems and in headphones, but on a car stereo that has a sub, all sorts of low 'boomy' artifacts become apparent.

I'm assuming this is something to fix with EQ, but since I can't monitor what I'm doing to that lower range while mixing, I'm not sure what to do about this boominess.

Would cutting the bass off completely at a certain frequency (say 60Hz) be a wreckless solution?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

This machine is amazing if you have the time to learn it's capabilities. Unfortunately, I do not, being in school and working. I bought the machine a few years back and it's been sitting, lifeless, in my studio. If anyone is interested, please research it and get back to me. It costs 2900 brand new, but I will part w/ it for 2300.

I'm also selling my Technics, as I have gone digital as far as my DJing is concerned. These are in mint condition-----700 takes the cake..
I'm in DC now, but I'm really trying to get out to SF and having a hell of a time at it.
So I wanted to inquire here, does anyone know of any music audio jobs, perhaps at your workplace, that are available?

Or, alternatively, does anyone in SF have a dying urge to start a professional recording studio?

Please let me know!

Hello! Is anyone interested in a Fairlight Prodigy and/or Fame? We don't use them anymore and they really need some new parents.
24 tracks, 96KHz, 48-bit digital audio workstation.

BASIC question about acid installation.

Thanks in advance for reading this.

Does Acid Pro take up much memory?
I've heard the songs and samples do.
Is this true?

I feel stupid for asking but I really don't know and couldn't find the info here or elsewhere...

The acid site said I needed hard disk space, but if I'm using the disc(s) I bought
from the site will I still need to download some of the software?
How does that work?
Can I use memory sticks?

Does any of this make any sense?

Thanks again for any advice.

Hey All,

This Wednesday evening I'm participating in an "Info Session" event at Fly Lounge in DC. This event is a workshop geared towards musicians, DJs, and producers. I'm going to be leading a discussion by demonstrating my "Live Remashing" project. I'll be talking about the technical side (how my tools work), the creative side (why I do live sound-collage), the practical side (working in sample-based music), and of course, performing a little music throughout!

This is event is sponsored by RedBull to raise awareness about an educational program they do called RedBull Music Academy. The Info Session is FREE and open to the public. You must RSVP to attend.

Please pass along this invite to anyone you know who might be interested!

Thanks,

I once heard it said that artists are the antennae of a culture; that they
see changes coming long before the general population does.

Where are we going next with digital audio arts?

We seem to have gone through a large period of slicing and dicing of audio
(glitch and microsound) and I have noticed a plethora of programs that
are incorporating what I would call the 'constraint of randomness'
in the software. The Cycling 74 Hipno plugins are really moving in this
direction, as well as programs like FLStudio Producers Edition 6.0.

I have the feeling that exciting things are upon us, especially after
reading Ray Kurzweil's fascinating and provacative millineum book,
"the Age of Spiritual Machines", especially as More's law applies to
not only the technology of computer memory, storage, throughput, etc.
but also to resultant increases in the sophitistication of software production.

I, myself, have noticed that VST production and the sohpitstication of plugins
by private parties has just mushroomed in the past couple of years...........to
the point where I have 20 or 30 incredible generative plugins that I haven't even
had the time to get into.

What do all of you think about what's coming next in Digital Audio Arts?

Hey friends,
I haven't been on a PC in years - and a friend of mine asked me where his plugins are supposed to go for Sound Forge (version 7) to recognize them. I can't for the life of me remember... well, things have changed since I was on PC... where do Sound Forge's DX plugins go? Which folder are they s'pose to be in?

Thanks in advance for any assistance! =)

Dear Friends,

I am happy to announce that my new solo album has been released by the US label "New Albion"!

Here is the link about the album at New Albion's web site : www.newalbion.com/NA131

This is an album of "solo acoustic guitar and live electronics". The whole album was recorded in real-time without any overdubs. I played the acoustic guitar and controlled the live electronics at the same time!

During the making of this album, Ovation Custom Legend 1869 acoustic guitar, TC Electronic Fireworx multi effects processor, Behringer FCB1010 midi foot controller and the software Audiomulch were used.

If you are interested in acoustic guitar, minimal ambient - electroacoustic music and the use of live electronics with Audiomulch, feel free to check out the album!

Thank you very much and best regards. Looking forward to your comments!

Recording Studio warehouse space available...

Hello,
I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this but I thought it would be of interest to people here. We have a building available that we were going to build a recording studio in, but our funding has fell through and are looking for someone to take over our lease. Along with this building comes a Use Permit for a recording studio from San Jose, which in itself is worth $$$$ here are the details:

We have a 3150 sqft warehouse space available, which includes 3 offices, and a reception area. A/C, plenty of parking. 20 foot celings. Back roll up door. Easy freeway access. We have the building approved for a recording studio by the city, but is zoned for a wide variety of uses. We have 3 years left on our lease, and are looking to move. This is a great space, and a perfect opprotunity if someone wants to put in a recording studio.

1181 N fourth street Unit C
San Jose, ca 95112

Contact me if you want to check it out!

The 30 Songs In 30 Days Contest!

Alright, here's the deal:
From Jan 30th till Feb 28th i am going to write, preform, and record a song a day, every day, for 30 days.

seriously

Join me.

Did i mention it's a contest?

Here's the rules:

There are two levels of difficulty, with two levels of prizes.
LEVEL 1 (for those who wish to push their edge):

Write the lyrics and music for a complete song each day (or write 3 songs a day for 10 days... or write 30 songs in 1 day. Whatever. Just as long as you have 30 songs recorded by 11:59:59 pm Feb 28th.)

What is a song?
You decide. Maybe it's a 30 second jingle. Maybe it's a 10 minute epic. Maybe it's you and an acoustic guitar. Perhaps you'll throw down acapella style or a friend will beatbox behind you. Set your own goals, set your own definition.

What is not a song?
No Scatting. At least 70% of your lyrics must be lyrics (yes, "baby, baby, baby" is okay, if it's followed by what you think of "baby")
No free-form poetry set to random noodling. A song has structure. A song has something that resembles singing (at least as much as Lou Reed or Cake.) Sorry. We need some criteria, and the line is drawn just short of William Shatner.

It's a contest? What do i win?
If you slink past the finish line with ye olde sack of 30 songs, you will gain the oh's and ah's of all your friends and family. You will get bragging rights for years to come. You will have a great icebreaker for wooing potential romantic partners...

... AND you will receive (from me) a rare, gold encrusted, PDF certificate naming YOU as the coolest person in the entire multiverse.
LEVEL 2 (for those who wish drive themselves insane):

Same as above.

* But: Each song must be at least 2 minutes long.
* Each song must have a melody and harmony
* Each song must have at least 1 vocal, singing comprehensible lyrics, and at least 3 other elements (like drums / bass / guitar, or deep rezzy bloops / high screechy bloops / sitar, or hand claps / piano / chainsaw... you decide)

...psst, i'm doing level 2.

Is there a better prize for LEVEL 2?
You bet there is! BETTER bragging rights. BETTER wooing potential... and an even BETTER PDF certificate (diamond encrusted, worthy of framing.)
FAQ

Why am i doing this?
'Cause i'm crazy.

It's kinda like NaNoWriMo for music.

It's about the magical power of deadlines. It's about bragging to everyone you know that you are going to do something scary, something impossible.

Why should you do this?
Because life is about doing crazy, scary things that we don't think we can do.

Just to risk looking bad, to risk doing something you thought you couldn't do. Give someone a goal and a goal-minded community and miracles are bound to happen.

It's about pure creativity. It's about abandoning our inner critic, leaving our inner editor at a day-care center for a month. It's about seeing what comes out when we don't have time to worry our dreams into nothingness.

Chris Baty, creator of NaNoWriMo, once said:
The quickest, easiest way to produce something beautiful and lasting is to risk making something horribly crappy.

Great works of art can be created in a month.

One more quote from Chris:
The glow from making big, messy art, and watching others make big, messy art, lasts for a long, long time. The act of sustained creation does bizarre, wonderful things to you. It changes the way you look at art. And changes, a little bit, your sense of self.

Do it because it's stupid.

Do it because it's impossible.

Drop me an email at 30s30d@systemcrasher.com

* Tell me: Your name
* Your email address
* Level 1 or Level 2

...see ya in february

wav 2 jpeg utility

I'm looking for a utility that creates and image from a wav file and can then recreate the wav file from the image. I've tried the "Bitmaps and Waves" program and while it makes some cool new sounds from the old ones, I'm trying to find one that keeps a faithful representation. Any ideas? Is there a plugin for Audacity or anything?

thanks

Omnimotion- Dream Wide Awake (AlephZ06)

Aleph Zero is proud to present... A New Omnimotion Album!!!

After four years of recording, producing and composing new music in his Ambium Studio based in Stockholm, Sweden, Omnimotion is finally back with a second album. Utilizing inspirations and knowledge he picked up along his very diverse musical path, Stefan has created Dream Wide Awake. The album contains the best musical gems that were carefully chosen from the music that accumulated in this four year period. It is a beautifully mellow yet optimistic album, with a strong acoustic presence. Dream Wide Awake is an incredibly diverse album. It features eight different vocalists- from a rapper to an opera singer- and many guest musicians with an array of instruments including the violin, accordion, guitar, drums, harp & flute. The outcome hovers between the electronic and the acoustic, the hypnotic and the melodic, between abstract ambient and mellow songs, between dubby songs and IDM glitches. Omnimotion weaves and paints here an emotional musical journey that must not be missed and will leave you dreaming wide awake.
What's the best process/path here? What do I do with this stuff?

I've been writing pieces in Sibelius for a while but wanted to be able to do better renderings
than I could get from the general MIDI setup on the box I had Sib on.

So I saved up here's what I have now:

("You shoulda done this" won't be very helpful, BTW--this is what I've got. I can
add incrementally--e.g., a USB audio device for the Mac--but not replace.)

Sib 3.x on a 1.5G Powerbook (so I can have projects with me when I travel) --
doubles as my "primary" home computer.

Cubase SL and Gigastudio 3 on a brand new ADK system (which is so quiet I can't tell it's on) with
an Athlon 64X2 3800 processor, 2G RAM, an 80G system drive, a 300G sample drive and
an Audiofile 2496 card.

Two nice, big monitors: one attached to the Mac and one to the ADK box (but I could attach
the analog from the ADK box to the "Mac" monitor and switch to look at, say, both GS 3 and Cubase
at the same time from the ADK box) .

Since I'm really only interested in doing renderings of Sib files, that's what I've got. No audio stuff
besides basic monitoring; I'm just going to render the scores and burn CDs at this point.

I'm just going to admit ignorance here. What am I supposed to do with this stuff? (Note: I have a really
good understanding of the low level goings on: I've done most of this stuff in C in one form
or another and taught a lot of people about how to do audio DSP and MIDI programming over the last
twenty-five years. I've just not used stuff, well, designed for people to use: my highest level
expertise was with packages like Csound.)

I think:

Edit the score in Sib on the Mac (the scores are very large, full orchestra scores)
Export or record the MIDI file on to the ADK audio box
Tweak the MIDI in Cubase SL

(here it gets a little hazy)
Play the score from Cubase to GS?
or
Import the MIDI file into GS and play it -- what -- back into Cubase?
To some external disk? (Would I be able to record the two track
mix to a USB drive?) Back to the Mac via SP/DIF from the 2496?
Record the two track master to -- what? From -- what?

(I wasn't even expecting Cubase. I was expecting to have to buy something to tweak
the MIDI file on the Mac.)

I could just start messing with it, but I don't want to think things are working then
try to do something that causes the system to hit some threshold and start to
choke only to discover the flow of my process was all wrong, so I thought I'd
check for some expert opinions.

What's the best process/path here?

Thanks,

F.

In the CueMix software it says "Cuemix state not in sync because the audio stream is not locked." Does anyone have any experience using the Ultralite with a PC laptop? What works for you? I need help! If i cant get the Ultralite to work i may trade it in for the RME Fireface 400. Does anybody use the RME with a PC laptop here? Thanks for the help!

What is Arduino?

Arduino is an open-source physical computing platform based on a simple i/o board, and a development environment for writing Arduino software. The Arduino programming language is an implementation of Wiring, itself built on Processing.

http://tribes.tribe.net/arduino

Arduino can be used to develop interactive objects, taking inputs from a variety of switches or sensors, and controlling a variety of lights, motors, and other outputs. Arduino projects can be stand-alone, or they can be communicate with software running on your computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP.) The boards can be assembled by hand or purchased preassembled; the open-source IDE can be downloaded for free.

Arduino received an Honory Mention in the Digital Communities section of the 2006 Ars Electronica Prix.

i made a song that protests what is happening because i can't imagine the suffering that is taking place over there and I can't understand why no one is standing up to Isreal with strength and integrity. our own lawmakers are strangely passive and quiet about what is happening.
well, in using music, i hope to uplift your spirits and inspire you to believe in the possibility of a world free of war and violence- especially violence led by governments. governments are meant to impose order and civility among the masses who supposedly need guiding. so, state sanctioned war just does not compute!

Anyone have any reccomendations for really heavy sounding distortion VSTs? I've tried a handful of free ones and the ones that come with cubase and they all sound terrible.

I'm a big fan of the Scream unit in Reason, but it cant be used as a plugin outside of Reason - somthing similar would be nice for Cubase as I'm very much into the industrial vibe.

hey folks, a friend and I recently took a workshop in pure data, a graphical programming language developed by miller puckette of max/msp fame. though it is still maintained by him, it is an open source project with a large developer base. like max, it is used a lot for foofy computer music and art installations, it is quite capable of being used in conjunction with midi and light/heat/motion sensors and whatnot, it is obscenely versatile. we're definitely newbies to PD, but we'd love to find more folks interested in it. I unfortunately lost the contact info for the other 8 ppl that took the workshop with us here in portland...

if you are interested at all in audio or video creation and mixing and don't have thousands to spend on commercial, closed source software, this is really worth looking into. it is available for free at puredata.info. if u are familiar with max or reaktor, the interface will be almost intuitive for u, with objects "patched" together in a graphical environment which models the flow of commands. it is kind of hard to get off the ground (we're getting there), but once u do, u can do a lot with it.
if interested, join our tribe!

http://tribes.tribe.net/digitalsounddesigners

I started a new tribe for people who are specifically interested in
designing sounds, both digitally (and acoustically).

I wanted a place where people can share creative approaches,
share their own work, share the work of other sound designers that they
admire and discuss the specific tools of original sound design.

Come join us there if this sounds intriguing.
SOUND MORPHER sonic morphing freeware app released

My friend, Victor Khashchanskiy has just released another amazing freeware
stand alone program called Sound Morpher.

http://www.webcenter.ru/~vsoft/SoundMorpher.htm

I've been playing with it all night and it is really a fantastic sound tool.

I'm not exactly sure how the engine works but I imagine it is similar to convolution.

It takes a Bearer .wav and the you modulate it with a Modulation .wav

In other words you can morph two sounds together with some wonderfully musical results.

This creative program joins the family of very hip and creative sound design tools that Victor has invented
and they all are free!!!!!!

1) Sound 2d Warper
http://www.webcenter.ru/~vsoft/SndWarp.htm

The program warps images, which are known to be closely related to sounds, so wave files could be loaded and converted to images, then warped and saved as sounds.

2) Bitmaps and Waves
http://www.webcenter.ru/~vsoft/BitmapPlayer.htm

This simple program converts bitmap images to sounds, and vice versa. Every line of loaded image is assumed to be a spectrum of sound, and it is converted to sound signal by means of inverse Fourie transform, or ...
Additional features, like image filtering and picture morphing, having sound morphing in mind, are available.

3) Enrhythmizer
http://www.webcenter.ru/~vsoft/Enrhythmizer.htm

The program applies rhythm patterns over source sound, so it acts like an amplitude or phase modulator. It also provides a built-in noise and sine generater for test purposes.

4) Draw the Sound
http://www.webcenter.ru/~vsoft/DrawTheSound.htm

This program lets you not only draw a shape that becomes a sound but also allows you to draw Amplitude, Frequency,
Distortion and Modulation

hello beautiful people,

A friend and I are trying to transfer field recordings from her sony minidisc onto my computer via usb, so that we can run them through recycle and use them in reason. Of course we discovered that sony md's don't work like this. dang.

In the interest of avoiding recording realtime via my soundcard, anybody know of any software that might allow us to upload via usb?

thanks for your help

GW's "prime time" empathy...

This is an "addendum" to a post of the first two parts of a serial musical piece I'm working on entitled "Death Trip Against U.S. Militarism." You can read it in its original context, as well as hear the music, at www.da-crouton.com

These pieces were begun long ago, but it seems pertinent to dedicate them to the occasion of George W. Bush–criminal occupant of the White House–speaking “prime time” to the nation from the oval office this evening. The most auspicious moment was perhaps when he addressed those who opposed “[his] decision to send troops to Iraq.” He noted, “I have heard your criticisms, and I know how deeply they are felt,” but cautioned, in a grandfatherly way, that we should not “give in to despair.” My opposition is not “felt.” It is reasoned. When the man who criminally occupies the White House, giggles at the systematic extermination of the poor (and mostly black) aided by a certain recent globally warmed meteorological event, and set the tenor of his rule with the immortal line “I don’t do nuance,” the same man who uses terms like “second guess” to describe hypotheses, reasoned arguments, and intellectual activity of any kind: when this man attempts to empathize with me via a major broadcast network, how can I not begin to “feel” insulted by his ignorance? Insofar as it is ignorance that sparks the only pertinent emotional component of the situation of being a citizen of this man’s rogue state, there is the potentiality that, in fact, he does have grounds for empathy. For, it is quite reasonable that he despairs of this same–his own–ignorance. In fact, given that he is constantly calling upon it as his guiding light, it is not only “quite reasonable.” It is also highly probable. Hence, when he follows some dim psychobabble later with “our Iraqi friends,” his impertinence comes back with a vengeance: if ever he had an Iraqi friend, how shall this friendship survive such an insult? To be a subject of this man’s empathy is to be deemed as ignorant as he.

Until this man usurped power (I almost wrote “came to power”), I had refused to believe in the notion of “intelligence” viz. IQ. I still believe that human capability is radically relative–clearly Yale nurtures something, but it can’t be capability per se. It is unreasonable to reason toward an “intelligence quotient.” But, if one must fight fire with fire, which one mustn’t, one must then call this man unintelligent. But I refuse to allow this man to usurp my power to explore the relative capabilities of humanity. And yes, the stakes are precisely this. “This” includes the integrity of human bodies, of course, most of which appear to be friends of his.

Let us now, in closing, notice and not forget the Judea-Christian rhetoric which summed it all up. At the same moment he rhetorically erases ethnic identity–see the reference to the Iraqi friend of his who announced that he was neither “Sheeee-ite” nor “Sooooni”; he was Iraqi. At this same moment, he introduces the taboo, anti-democratic hog butcher to the world. Given his best intentions and extreme mastery of human emotions, he probably also sees beyond the ways this reproduces and maintains the bogus terms of the bulk of the blood shed in this geopolitical arena.

The “Death Trip Against U.S. Militarism” series (let’s call it that while I’m working on a third) was not created on this occasion. But it was begun with this here nervous system–the same that exercises “reason” in defiance of the “despair” this man attempts to project upon me (and, by default, the world at large).

(crossposted)

Hiya-

Having finally killed my old Win98 P3 at home, I'm in the market for a new PC DAW and am curious to hear from others as far as experiences w/ retailers and machines...

And while I know it's usually cheaper to build your own machine, I really don't want to futz with the BIOS config., driver library, cache settings, etc., - 'out of the box' is what I'm looking for. Would like to spend $2000 or less, but will shell out a little bit more if it means the difference between great and unbelievably great.

Been looking at these sites:

http://www.adkproaudio.com (like 'em 'cause they offer Win2k for all us XP haters)

http://www.shop-sonica.com/

http://www.pcaudiolabs.com

I think I'm also leaning towards an AMD dual-core chipset...

Thoughts?

I have the ability to record a full length album in a professional studio, gig, and possibly soundtrack a short film. I am interested in melding genres like:: soul + swing + funk + trip hop .or. 50's jingle + electro + punk.

Be fooled. I am crazy; planning invasions, skanking through grocery stores, and singing in the parking lot. I like transistor reggae be-bop hootenannies through rock and rumble piano fiestas and into power trip switch hop on roof-tops to street corners. I have a ridiculous amount of lyrics and songs and am also a free style vocalist.

So what you got. I can sing to it. Play anything. Any fucking thing. I am not afraid. Wheels screeching sweat pouring fire punk, sultry sexed-up Thursday morning house, boogalicous body thumping beats, freedom rock for toy instruments, funk punch for your thirsty palette: I CAN JAM.

I am looking for people who thrive music: bass - stand up/electric, flute/bass clarinet, keyboards/piano, drums- hand/kit, horns, turntables, guitar, violin/viola, poets and funkdafied producers. I am interested in collaborating on specific projects while also finding a cohesive group of musicians that are truly into each other, can travel cross country, laugh till four in the morning and thrash a basement as hard as a stage. I am a rocket. Give me the go. I'll light the fire

I just moved a folder of my Logic projects from my computers hard drive to an external hard drive. Now when I open up the project from the external hard drive, the song will play (I can hear it when I press play), but non of the screens (like Arange, mixer, so on) are visible, or available in the pull down menue. The only thing visible is the transport bar, and a few of the menu items are available. I've been good a bout keeping all the samples for a song in one floder which is acompanied by Logics launch file so that all that projects componants are there (which doesn't seem to be the problem anyway). But, still, the song plays. Is anybody familiar with this problem?

Advice on finding house music for hula hoop instructional dvds?

I'm hoping for advice.

I am seeking original house music beats (preferably without too many lyrics) which can be included in a hula hooping instructional dvd I am making. Happier, juicy, soulful house with elements of disco -- basically any house music that makes you smile widely and tap your foot and shake your head.

Do you have any sugggestions on royalty free sources of such groovy music, or have leads on any friends who produce house music who may be open to donating a song to this creative project. I don't have any cash, but I can give you a copy of the final instructional dvds and a handcrafted pro hoop when the project is done, as well as credits on the project and links from the website.

Please respond directly to info@hoopgirl.com

With respect for the music,
Christabel

Funkstörung Celebrate Their 10th Anniversary

Michael Fakesch and Chris de Luca, better known as Funkstörung, anticipate a celebration of their upcoming 10th anniversary. Described as one of the hottest duos in electronic production, they most certainly live up to the image by weaving threads of electro, hip-hop and drum & bass into minimal techno’s sterile beats. They stand for updating generations of electronics with their strange affinity for accompanying loud and raw distortion, with abstract beats and beautiful sweeping melodies, as captivating fans of progressive techno and hip-hop alike. Their innovative and exquisite style has brought infamous fame and made them one of the most demandable remixers in the world.

The first steps of their careers took place in Bavaria, Germany, Fakesch as techno party event planner, De Luca as local DJ, eventually turning their ambitions into a recording contract in 1994 for six releases with Bunker Records. Their first album Acid Planet Is Agreed Upon was later characterized by countless minimalist acid, techno, and electro tracks. They founded Funkstörung, as they are known today, meaning “distortion of funk,” as they could not find a better name to suit their style. Their uniqueness and skilled abilities to mix music attracted attention, especially across the Atlantic, leading to remixes for Wu-Tang Clan and specifically the notorious remix of Bjork’s “All Is Full of Love,” making them distinguishably recognized for their abstract and tell-tale electronic sound. From one success to another, they were to land a label deal with !K7 Records.

For the first time in 1999, Funkstörung were able to release a compilation on !K7 called Additional Productions featuring eight of their remixes Bjork, Wu Tang Clan, East Flatbush Project, Fini Tribe and others. In 2000, following their first remix album was their first artist album Appetite for Disctruction. In 2001 their second artist album was released, a third one for !K7 called Vice Versa. At the height of their careers, after collaborating with Jay-Jay Johanson, the Designers Republic, and Pea Bird, the duo came back
