Hello All!
This is just a little note to introduce MEAI ... aka Middle East Arts International. We're a 10-year-old nonprofit up in Seattle, WA. The founding members were Sabura, Tina Sargent, and Souzan. Though Sabura and Tina are no longer at the helm of the ship, they are consistently lending help when and where they can. Currently myself (Mirabai) and a handful of dedicated dancers and musicians are the organizers.
You can find out more about us at MiddleEastArts.org
Our mission at MEAI is to promote excellence in Middle East-inspired dance and music and nurture cross-cultural awareness by providing the Northwest community and larger region with unique access to nationally and internationally renowned artists. We strive to produce culturally and historically responsible workshops, host theatrical shows of the highest quality, and collaborate with other local endeavors to share knowledge.
So ... as you'll see in our other post ... this is why we're proud to be presenting Yousry Sharif in a workshop series this year! And why we're proud of our diverse lineup of dancers, dance forms, and musicians.

Re: Hello From MEAI
Mon, August 4, 2008 - 11:07 AMHello -- I'm glad you ladies are there. I have a sister & brother in law in Seattle, and my husband and I love that city. We live in Northern Calif. and have toyed with the idea of moving there someday. We love the cultural diversity, all the water --- and I like the wonderful belly dance community there! I took a drop in lesson with Leslie Rosen when we were there in June. Keep up the good work!
