Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol
Fri, February 24, 2006 - 7:35 PMAs a nail tech, I have always put my feet, hands and nails in good condition! I have done tons of pedicures and seen all kinds of foot and nail disorders. Mostly because of neglect. Which is sad, because feet need TLC like everything else!
With Arizona's dry climate, i recommend buying a paraffin tub and lots of paraffin wax. Paraffin comes in all kinds of scents for aromatic purposes. Paraffin is AWESOME for putting in and holding in moisture that is essential for healthy skin. ESPECIALLY if you have dry skin. Dipping your hands and feet is very relaxing and I incorporate them into manicures and pedicures. i have also done paraffin masks for your face(dry skin types), but thats recommended to be done by a professional.
You can find paraffin tubs and wax at your local beauty supply store(do they have Sally's in PHX??) for around $30 and wax about $5 a block/pound. I recommend 4 blocks to fill a tub. Do not use a crock pot or microwave to heat and melt the paraffin wax, or it will burn and scortch the wax. By the paraffin tub, it is set at a very low setting to heat the wax just right.
It is a little investment, but it is soo worth it and very relaxing, and will put moisture back in your hands and feet!!

Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol
Sun, February 26, 2006 - 12:25 AMMy footcare is more mechanical that, um, cosmetical. I have to pay close attention to how much weight I put on the balls of my feet. For years I had to work on my feet and I developed a very painful condition called metatarsalgia. Basically its severe pain in the ball of the foot, worse with weight-bearing on the balls of the feet, especially in heels and bad shoes. I can no longer wear heels, except for sitting photos -- LOL. And no more Payless specials. I'm stuck with flats or platforms, preferably with rubber soles, and tennis shoes. Ugg type boots with sheepskin in the soles are great, too. The more cushion the better. A thing called a metatarsal pad or even arch supports are helpful. My arches are fine but the supports (the higher the better) relieve pressure off my forefoot. Every once in a while, I'll brave heels for a brief moment in time. Then I limp for the next couple of days afterwards. -

Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol
Sat, March 4, 2006 - 2:03 PMOuch.... A couple of years ago I started having pain in the balls of my feet, also. Dancing barefoot on hard surfaces makes it much worse. I've started wearing ballet-like flats with Dr Scholls inserts to dance, and athletic shoes & penny loafers for everyday wear, and Capizo character shoes for dress up occasions & swing dance classes.
I haven't gone to a Dr for an official diagnosis yet, but my MIL who was married to & worked with a Dr for years thinks it's a Mortons Neuroma. Ice & massage help a SUPER lot.
I also have wide feet, but stuffed them into Payless and Kmart specials for years anyway. Then I purchased a pair of shoes that ACTUALLY FIT from Maryland Square (they're on the web now, you can Google them). It's easy to get used to wearing comfortable shoes, so now that's all I buy (not affiliated, just a happy customer since the 1980s).

Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol
Sun, April 2, 2006 - 6:47 PMOuch! That sounds a lot like what happens to me. It feels like there's a lump, like a bunched up sock, or something, underneath the ball of my feet. It's much, much worse after wearing heels. And sometimes it's horribly painfull!! Massage and ice seem to work best. -

Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol
Sun, March 5, 2006 - 7:06 PMmmm I know what you mean... I use a pumice stone at bath time and slather my feet in shea butter and put on the cotton socks every night. And now I dance in hermes style sandals which makes a big difference in how tough my feet get. Treat myself to a couple of good pedis a month and also liberally use a really nice mint lotion on the feet and legs during the day. -

Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol

Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol
Tue, March 7, 2006 - 6:26 PMSpeaking of good, comfy shoes, especially for those of us who stand a lot at work...my new favorite shoes are my Crocs. They're worn mostly by medical professionals, but who cares?? They are supportive, extremely lightweight and ohhh so comfy! I work in a busy salon doing skin care, so it's great for my lifestyle.
Plus their synthetic construction is nice for those who get their shoes dirty...you can throw them in the top rack of your dishwasher...and if you have an aversion to wearing animal products, these are also great, being all man-made. They look a little like a Birkenstock clog, but made of a rubber-type material, and they have plenty of ventilation holes.
And they're not too expensive...I got mine for $30, marked down on sale from $40. -

Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol
Tue, March 7, 2006 - 7:41 PMWhere can you get these, Crocs????
Brand name? Stores?
I'm also an esthetician and my feet hate me after doing body massages. I need me some Crocs! -

Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol
Wed, March 15, 2006 - 8:53 PMI got them at my local mall shoe store (Houser's Shoes), but other places carry them too. I've seen knock-offs at Walmart and PayLess, but I like the real deal, and they're not that expensive.
I'll bet you could run a search and order them online easily, too. Good luck! I wear mine almost every day I work. -

Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol
Thu, March 16, 2006 - 9:20 AMMy local Hallmark sells the Crocks too.
As for the actual feet, I have been using an aloe product called Miracle Foot Repair Cream, a little in the mornig and a little at night (no socks required) and my feet have completely recovered from their dry crackyness. You can get it at Walmart, and a little goes a long way. -

Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 6:44 AMIt might be worth a visit to a podiatrist. There is a prescription-only lotion that's mostly lactic acid that is likely to be a cure for your problems. It's a super-moisturizer for people whose feet develop dry calluses because their feet don't produce enough moisture. There is also a urea-based lotion for softening problem areas.
Like everything else, if you want it done REALLY right, see a professional.

Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol
Sat, May 10, 2008 - 6:41 AMNO, no, no, I dont agree.
The HEEL BALM worked wonders on my heels looks like babys heels now lol finally I can wear those fancy strapped heels ( love shows like most ladies.
Even THOUGH we got health insurance, not wasting my time going to those rich doctors lol. Theyre just out to make money to pay thier medical students loans.
Some HOME REMEDIES STILL WORKS- at this time and age. LIKE- armpit odor due to perpirations- a squueze of lemon juice in your armpits, let it dry, then take a shower will work mirackles ( works better in shave armpits.
Like the other night- I had SOME HOT COOKING OIL SPLATTERED IN MY HAND- hurts like heaven-- fresh aloe vera stalk juice HELPS- soothing and heeling.
Theres lots of ways to SAVE money. and pain in your wallet.

Re: FOOT CARE- not a laughing matter lol
Sun, May 11, 2008 - 5:14 PMIt is so true that many home remedies actually work when prescriptions do not.
I must try the lemon juice in the armpits..
