SMILE- trick yourself in a good mood.Even holding a pen in your teeth activates
one of the miling muscles.
I was kinda "fired in my my very first restaurant gig" LOL. I just smiled, maybe THERES SOMETHING ELSEI can do besides dancing for patrons. I do and still doing it just to be a part of the dance scenes. Never attempted to get a eatery gigs again NEVER. and Im still smiling.
( mY "crime" /) I accepted tips in my hand after telling the patrons NO BRA TIPPING please lol.
CAN YOU CARRY ON A SMILE in your heart. Need something to smile about? Look AROUND YOU.Everything little things comes around as a blessings.
LOSING A FAKE, SHALLOW bd SO CALLED " freinds" are a blessings. THERE ARE " keepers ones" and disposables ones. SO smile about that.
Need to look somemore stuffs to smile about:? How ABOUT in a mirror? Remember though START IT UP and its contagious.

I have a student who just started Egyptian Cab with me and is moving back home to Birmingham, England.

She really seems to enjoy it and I want to make it easier for her to continue her BD lessons when she goes back home by getting her in touch w/some people there.

Does anyone know of any good teachers there? She's a really lovely, smart, sweet lady and might need help working around her med school schedule.

Any help that can be given would be very much appreciated.

Problems with Advertising Upcomming Show's and Hafla's

I don't know if anyone else has encountered this problem, but i get rather annoyed with the short amount of time alot of orgainisers leave between advertising an event, and the when it takes place...finding that i only find out about most events just a week or two before they actually happen, with exception for the big ones like Raqs Britainia etc which thankfully give plenty of advance warning.
My teacher has also mentioned before how she has only been sent leaflets for events by other orgainisers for events a week before to hand out to her students, and it drives her nuts bcause she knows that alot more of us would be able to go if we had more notice.

Belly Dance is by no mens a cheap hobby, and often i need at least a months notice to A.organise childcare B.ensure my diary is actually free for that date and sometime C. to ensure i have enough funds available to go.

Even on tribes i've seen people put up announcements for events just a week before they are due to happen, and then complain when the turn out wasn't very good.
I'm not saying advertise 6 months before, but give it a month or two to circulate so that it raises enough attention, and gives people a chance to book and pay.

What are your experiences with this?

CARPOOLING/RENT a VAN AND SPLIT the costs amongst dancers thats going.. DONT rent a hotel room,make it a R/T escapades.Bring a cooler full of FOODS/water etc.

GET OUT OF TOWN,early in the game; JOIN a dance contest over and over again TILL YOU WIN.Maybe having a title will get you a small recognition.
PERFORM in a big EVENTS of states.
GET YOUR PHOTOS in a established web-sites. MILLIONS are reading it.
VIDEOS for self-promotions ; AHHHHHHHHHHH, are you really that great yet? WAIT a while- lots in the bargain bins at a dollar stores right now.
B. DO THEY really want TO BE FAMOUS, TRAVEL and earn lots of $$$$$.?
We know in the fast age of internet,THERES A LOT IN OUR neigborhood that should BE SHOULD BE OUT THERE. They had been a excellent teachers/performers for some years.

Just keeping UP with the NEWS- BELLY-DANCE, the AIRLINES and US.

AMERICAN AIRLINES suspended 500 flights ( lots are stranded in PHX.) hope this wont be a trend. They said, its due for INSPECTIONS etc.
Four major AIRLINES last week ceased to continue thier bussiness; one of them was ALOHA AIRLINES. Lots of passengers had no flights back to the main states.
This had happenned to me onced coming from overseas- just a minor thing- our connecting flight was delayed. AIRLINES are obligated to put you up for FREE at a hotel with complimentary meals. ( got 3 free meals out of this)nice room and foods. TRAVELLING alone this is scary, it will get your family worried.
AIRLINES just want us TO BE SAFE on air.Dont worry, THEY WILL just keep HIKING the AIRFARES- ( fuel, security costs etc)

Arabic vs. Egyptian style of dance

Why is that some belly dancers call their style "Arabic style" but distinquish it from the Egyptian style? But Egypt is considered an Arabic country. One time I was corrected by an instructor, Egyptian dancer, when I asked her to teach us some Arabic moves.

I have seen instructors describe their teaching styles as Arabic, Egyptian and etc. Just curious...

WHY? HAVE YOU LOST your marbles? lol.
I did it and STILL doing it- SOMEBODY up there watching me- cant do it alone.
How did I get that idea? Im not a professional belly-dancer- that cruised all over the valley ( highly-well-known to all arab establishments etc; ) instructor etc.
What I KNOW now and THEN; I learned it ON MY OWN.
I got HOOKED- fish out of water- hook,line and sinker. SINK or swim. I decided to PADDLE..
STILL learning- It is FUN and I LOVE doing it- meeting nice well-mannered, beautiful,talented ladies; just like you normal. I have NO REGRETS-one day these WILL BE just a SWEET MEMORIES.
How did I get started? SIMPLE. A freind told me about the best dancer/instructor in the whole country- then AND EVEN NOW, the most beautiful (true) most love; gave meher video TO CHECK her out:)>
WOW- smitten wasnt the word. This is new to me- its so beautiful- the dance- a new ART- dances from different cultures. WHAT IS this? The strange music. The most beautiful, colorful costume.
I want this.

Belly Dancer - Injuries

I haven't danced in a class since I had my son.....but I have at home. Anyway like a month ago I started getting this horrible pain in my abdomen when coughing, sneezing and straining. I went to the doc and he says it could be a pulled muscle or a hernia. I had read about hernias and am a little scared - as it is I can't do a 10 o'clock roll with the pain - but I've read about the surgery to correct a hernia, and it seems like it would make belly dancing hard as well. Anyway I have been doing my stretches and such hoping it's just a pull. I'm not sure if it has gotten better or if I have learned not to strain - when I sneeze it still hurts just as much as it ever did. Anyway was wondering if anyone had any experience with hernias? - Really I thought only old men and babies got them.

HELP, HELP, HELP, please! We need help with a piece of music!

My dance partner and I are in desperate need of some help. We choreographed a candle tray # to a piece of music that we thought came from Cirque Du Soliel album. We were asked to perform on a DVD and we would like to do this # but we need to see if we can license the song. We searched high and low for this original of the song and we cannot find it. My dance partner swears it is from Cirque Du Soleil but it is not on any of the albums we can find. If anyone knows where this music is from please let us know. We would GREATLY appreciate it. To stress or not to stess ----

Here's something everyone can consider and identify with ----- I'm dancing with my teacher (student troupe) at Rakkasah, and I'm SCEEEERD ! I've only performed before small groups, and usually people I'm familair with. So, how does everyone deal with stage nervousness. A large part of it is that I'm no youngster at 63 and the memory and tracking just ain't so good anymore ( Last time I danced with my class hafla (tribal) I goofed on a turn and was embarassed.) I was relieved to see that for this time's staging purposes, I'm in the back row, corner for most of the dance. BUT then at the end, I'm right up front --- eeeek. Any sage advice, ladies ?

Good morning everyone!
We are pleased to announce that we are going through the final bits of recording and editing before we send our tracks off to be mastered and mass-produced! Hopefully we will have the LP ready to sell sometime in April.

We are very grateful to those of you who have prepaid the LP for being so patient with us. We really tried to get this thing finished this winter, and we apologize that this didn't happen--we want to provide you with the best possible recordings, so instead of rushing the album out we decided to postpone it.
That being said, we are VERY pleased with the results so far and will be delivering to you a professional product.

Once we release the album we will be putting together a CD release party and will be available for touring around later this year.
If you are putting together a bellydance workshop weekend somewhere and want a great live band drop us a line!!!

Another bulletin will be sent out the day we send the tracks out with a more precice release date!
Thank you for all of your amazing support and wonderful compliments.

Who else GOT it. ORIGInal printed version and in a great condition.
This book has ALL the MIDDLE-EASTERN ENTERTAINERS and photos, of WHO WAS REALLY THERE :).
IT will PUT to shame to ALL artickles books, written about it after 1883 TO now.
(our freind MISS RAVENMOON saw it and can testify :)

My name is Cindy. I live in Las Vegas, NV. Although currently I find myself in the UK. I have been drumming for about 6 years. I have dabbled in many forms of the drum. Middle
Eastern, African and a bit of Indian. Drumming is something that I absolutely love!

I am incredibly excited to announce that in September 2009, Wiggles of the West (formerly of Reno, NV) and the Las Vegas Bellydance Intensive will be uniting forces to create an incredibly diverse and comprehensive event experience! Although the two events will remain separate entities, we are working together to merge the activities into 5 solid days of incredible workshops, contests, shows, and shopping—all in the fabulous city of Las Vegas, NV.

The Las Vegas Bellydance Intensive has organized multiple tracks of level and style specific workshops in Vegas for the last 6 years. Wiggles of the West brings 12 years of belly dance competition experience to the table. Dealing with Naughty Audience Members

The comments went from costuming to dancing to just plan old comments about the dancer's weight.

Finally the 24 songs from the Melissa and Carmine instructional CDs are bound in ONE sheet music book!

Presently only the Concert C Treble Clef version is available. Soon to come are B Flat, E flat, and Concert C Bass Clef versions.

( the harsh weekly critiques you have to endure). NO wonder the dancers are EXCELLENT!.

BELLY-DANCE FAMILY TREE in your state- from the50s,, 60S, 70s, 80s and 90s, and 2000Ss.

ARIZONA has belly-danced sinced 1893, IN a gambling saloon, brothel in TOMBSTOMB, AZ.
The place is a haunted museum building now and open to the public. a tourist attraction.
I have a old movie taken in the 50s about touring dancers from CHICAGO to fullfil thier contract to a gig in TOMBSTONE. yES, they were in a covered wagon. IMAGINE that; on the way, t THEY DO A stopover in some cities , towns along the way to a show. How CUTE, show was ten cents- audienced was cowboys etc. ( Hollywood style) movie title was 'SALOME" what else.
I didnt get into this racket lol, till the early 90s. Some of the pioneers had passed on. AIDA CAIRO is still alive and was a freind of SERENA from NY.
sOME veterans instructors are still very active dancing or teaching locally.
Some dancers from other states had retired here living the life. Few married some millionaires etc.
WHO in your dance community NEEDS RECOGNITIONS and GRATITUDES for thier passions of teaching?
THEY need acknoledgements * and our deepest gratitudes. We need to have this in a time capsules; HISTORY of belly-dance in AMERICA.. ( a touring EXHIBITS ANYONE)?

More LOVE ,HAPPINESS, great HEALTH and "mo" money and more BELLY-DANCING!!.
Were ready to PARTEE- champagne with fresh squeeesh oj,king crabs,rice pilaf- chow-mein for long life,chips and dips, hot cocoa with whippied cream etc.
JAN.2- time to exercise and eating less.I cant fit on my blue jeans.
