Isn't that what we are supposed to do today?
So when you are playing the sheet music, pay special attention to the rests. . .forget about those silly notes. . .they can never make up their minds anyway.
Do you play an instrument or two??

Re: Happy Day of Rest. . .
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 10:10 AMI'm not sure you *really* want a comprehensive list of my musical instruments.
In my last professional jazz band, I played piano, synth (a Radio Shack mini-Moog knockoff), acoustic lead and rhythm guitar, flute, and African talking drum (with the ocassional fill-in on upright bass, bass guitar or drumset).
In my last rock band, I played synths (mostly a Yamaha DX7), electric piano, electronic organ, acoustic lead and rhythm guitar, flute, harmonica, tambourine, cowbell, and the ocassional flutophone, fife and/or ocarina (that I can recall offhand, anyhoo).
(If I list every musical instrument I've ever played in public, we could be here awhile...) -

Mon, May 12, 2008 - 11:28 AMAndrew, I'm thinking of buy an Alesis Micron. Do you know of it??
I like the small size and limited keyboard. . .sounds okay too. -
-
Re: Happy Day of Rest. . .
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 12:33 PMI think I fiddled with the Micron once or twice back in my studio musician days. IIRC, it wuz a nice enuff keyboard, but I'm personally not usually favorably disposed to using anything with that small of a range (excepting if it's just to augment another polyphonic keyboard with at least 6 octaves) -- but then, I got run outta the local community college's jazz group fer reaching into the piano and playing the strings with my fingers, so YMMV, of course, of course... -
-
Re: Happy Day of Rest. . .
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 12:39 PMWhat's YMMV?
and my goal with the micron would be to create "treatments" a la Eno, rather than to "be" a keyboard player which I am not.
I will learn all the scales and chords, but primarily use it to just add snippets. . .
But another question. . .can you say which synth has the best B-3 emulation?? -
-
Re: Happy Day of Rest. . .
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 12:46 PMYMMV = yer milage may vary
The only synth I ever massaged a passable B3 imitation out of wuz the Yamaha DX7 (but then, I've rarely ever used samplers meself -- which from what I've been told [repeatedly, by many] might be the best way to go aboot such a thing) -- I generally used a Roland electronic organ with my last rock group fer playing most tuneage associated with that sound... -

Mon, May 12, 2008 - 12:47 PMEDIT: 'milage' = "mileage"
