I was talking with a coworker about his Psychology class. He told me a woman described in detail an experience she had when she was little.

She told the class she saw her grandmother levitating.

do you want to hear more?

So apparently it really scared her and while telling the story had her arms folded and was visibly disturbed.

She told the class her grandmother practiced a form of old voodoo that was handed down for generations. Held within her family lines.

So when she was finished, she said said she felt really bad about her experience and was asking the teacher what her opinions were. The teacher would not give an opinion but said it was common in some cultures.

So... after class my coworker and her walked out to the parking lot together, not talking. He went one way, she continued to walk and was struck by a car. She was not killed but did spend the night in the hospital.

So now my coworker is coming up with all kinds of great theories why she was struck by the car.

that's an interesting story. . .sounds like your coworker needs to invest in a car detector!
some people are more vulnerable to those sorts of beliefs than others, luckily not as many as in the middle ages or we would be swamped by lawsuits. . .

she was struck by a car because she was wasn't paying attention because she was shaken up. hysteria/fear will do that to you. accidents often happen in such a state.
it's too bad the levitating stuff was perceived so negatively by her. if someone can really do it, it would just be manipulating energy in some way my guess would be. i do it in my dreams and it feels like it's not that big of deal once you get it.

car detectors, $19.95 at Auto Zone or Checkers. . .the alarm brings you back quickly, and also is loud enough to alert drivers.
a whole lot cheaper than a visit to the ER, in spite of all those spiffy doctors and nurses.

That what we believe in sometimes becomes our reality... One theory about why voodoo works, is that people believe in it.. so.. for example.. If Ellie believes in voodoo.. and I hand her a bag with strange symbols painted on it and in that bag are beetle wings, the feather from a bird and a rock in the shape of a dolphin.. and tell her that I've cursed her so that every time she drinks orange juice she will flap her wings & make dolphin noises.. she's likely to do just that..

                    odd, that.

I agree.. the lady was distracted & her brain lost in replaying her past, thus not aware of her current surroundings.

hmmm.. let's see what's in this dark green velvet bag with Lorenzo embroidered in sequins......

                        a piece of sasparilla bark
                        an A&W bottle cap
                        knuckle bone of a frog
                        tear of a griffin.

You will magically be able to turn any beverage set before you into root beer
                        HOWEVER!
after every glass.. you are compelled to say
                        "winka, winka whacka whacka woo!"

and instead of belching, you will hop like a frog
