Want to move to LA

topic posted Wed, February 6, 2008 - 7:18 PM by  Danielle
Hello there,
I am a New Yorker looking to move to LA. I've been researching Manhattan, Hermosa and Venice Beach. I'm a massage therapist, but want to work part time doing massage therapy and part time doing something else interesting. I'm also looking for someone to room with. I'm looking to spend 7-800 in rent. I also don't know too many people in LA, so someone with common interests would be best :) Any help would be much appreciated!!

Venice is the best. :) That is all.

I went for 2 weeks last month and spent the whole time there. It is definitely great! But, I eventually want to go to school in Carson. So, I need something a little closer to the school. But, yeah, Venice ROCKS!

Ahhh yes, Carson! That always makes me think of one of my roommates, but it's not too far away, I think just a 20 minute drive? I don't know if you can maybe change your area listing on here, but I know that I'm always seeing random listings for people in the area who are looking for roommates to rent out rooms, and that kind of thing. May be worth checking out. :)

20 minutes in a rocket car with no traffic.

More like 40 in decent conditions.

Keep in mind that MB and HB are culturally very different from VB. I'll put it to you in New Yorker terms (I lived in Manhattan many years ago). Think of NYC ten years ago and think of the difference between the East village and the upper East side. HB MB are full of sports bars, vapid bleach blondes and aging bud light swilling jocks. They do have much nicer beaches though.

Yeah, 20 minutes with no traffic. With traffic could be anywhere from 30-50 minutes, depends on the day and which way the wind is blowing.

I'll keep that in mind when I move. Ten years ago I was 20, partying on Bleeker Street trying to get into The Lion's Den with a fake ID! NYC will be hard to leave. It has so many advantages. I'll definitely miss it.
            Thanks for the insight.
