If you would like an invitation ot Microsoft's Wallop Social Networking beta, please reply to this message with:
- your name
- your email address

Invitations are free and I ask that you return the favor for others who would like to join (rather than selling your invites on eBay as some others have). I will check this forum daily until November 11, 2006 and will send out invitations each day.

Happy walloping!

I'm curious about it, if skeptical :) But thanks for such a generous offer... Let's hope the spambots stay clear.

Interesting that you need our name - is this a requirement for Wallop invitations? Can I use an alias?

name: Mr Scribe ("First name 'Mr', second name 'Scribe'.")
address: wallop [... curly symbol ...] exmosis [... tiny spot ...] net

    Cheers again...

I have been traveling over the past several days and have just added invitations for folks who made requests from November 8 - today. If you made a request on this thread prior to this post and did NOT receive an invitation, please send me a message and I will do my best to take care of your request as soon as possible.

I would also like to ask anyone who received an invitation to offer similar options to others in kind. As of right now, you typically get 10 invitations per day (not total as some have thought).

    Happy walloping!

I'm noticing a lot of people putting their email address on here verbatim. For those of you who may not know, spammers typically "harvest" email address by setting up software programs to go through public websites and pull anything that matches the format ______@____.com. That's why so many people on here try to make their address less recognizable by putting them in as myname(at)mydomain(dot)com.

So if you put your email address out on the web publicly, you should expect to see a large increase in spam.

I realize a lot of you know this already, but I'm writing this for the one guy who doesn't.

Wallop is a pretty big failure guys.
30M in VC cash and almost no interest from real, normal people.
Maybe if they were willing to spam a db of 50M email addresses like MySpace/eUniverse back in the day, they'd have a chance.
That's not to say I don't like MySpace. I LOVE MYSPACE... but that's how they got the jump on Friendster which already had 3M+ users at the time. If you've ever ran a MySpace spam bot between 2005-2006 you'd also know something pretty interesting... after a couple friend requests/messages/group invites/whatever sent, your bot was usually presented with a CAPTCHA ("Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart"). If you went to MySpace's email invite page and provided them with valid email addresses, the CAPTCHA would magically go away! Pretty genius of MySpace to harness spammers. Some random guy whose email you provided gets a "GuyWhoNeverExisted has invited you to join MySpace!" email and MySpace makes a couple thousand new users out of one spammer.
