Hi folks, newbie here with a question.
I recently saw a brochure for Mangosteen juice, from Indonesia which claims many health benefits, but I can't turn up any objective research beside the marketing info. As a result I suspect it's a local drink, probably not bad for you at least, which has been imported with a fair bit of health hype in order to make a profit. Does anyone know different?

Re: Mangosteen: Fact or Fiction?
Mon, February 12, 2007 - 5:27 PMI have just recently heard of Mangosteen from a health conscious friend of mine. He tends to be a pretty reliable source when it comes to these things from my experience and he seems to think it has a lot of health benefits. Haven't discussed it too much with him so that is all I can offer...that and apparently it's some pretty funky stuff (taste-wise)! -

Re: Mangosteen: Fact or Fiction?
Mon, July 9, 2007 - 1:52 PMMy husband and I spent an awful lot of $$ using Mangosteen daily for at least 8 months. I drank it with some pomegrante juice and Chris added it to his smoothies. We noticed nothing... We also donate $ to Nutrition Action and receive their periodical, they recently had an article that basically called the whole mangosteen movement a brilliant marketing scheme. We finished the bottle we had and have not bought more and again noticed no great (or minor) changes.... That being said, I believe that the only way to *know* is to try it yourself. I'm currently trying "oil pulling" to see for myself... If I can find th article, I will post some quotes. -

Re: Mangosteen: Fact or Fiction?
Tue, July 17, 2007 - 12:05 AMI am in Thailand now, and just found out what it looks like, so I plan to buy one and taste it. I also heard that it is a marketing scheme and that although it is good, as other fruits are, it's not got the AMAZING healing properties that it is marketed for.
I will get back to you with a photo on my page of a mangosteen! -

Re: Mangosteen: Fact or Fiction?
Tue, July 17, 2007 - 8:40 AMi mean, it's like everyone went crazy about gojis and maca and raw cacoa and and and.... and i think the thing is to eat a nice variety of organic produce and to also try to take into account the overall well being of the planet, which might entail not shipping every bit of produce from everywhere to here. -
