i didn't eat meat for 6 years (1998-2004), but my motto was fish and eggs, but nothing with legs.

nowadays, after prepping to live and travel abroad for a couple years, i've eased up a bit. i will eat meat if i am a guest and it is being served. i will try exotic local dishes, just to experience the wholeness of others' experiences. if i'm eating family style in a restaurant, i will eat meat. if i'm around my midwestern relatives, i eat what they eat (unfortunately purging a bit later). when people assume i don't eat meat, i correct them, and say i eat about 80% alkaline and 20% acid, or 75% raw vegan and 25% other stuff. all in all, it's going to be a lifelong dance of finding that balance of diet and exercise for vitality, and emotional, physical, spiritual well-being.

in my class the other night, the subject came up of this kind of diet that juicing/fasting/raw foods promotes. IF a person is weak constitutionally, or as a compromised immune system, this kind of diet can make them very sick. they will not be able to digest or absorb what they should be getting, and would best get it in a soup form (slow cooked, drinking the mineral rich broth). also, i'm a blood type O, and supposedly would do very poorly on a non-flesh eating diet...type A's can thrive on being vegan...so if something works well for you, cut others a little slack and realize different bodies require different sustanance...So, a note to self, please be mindful who you suggest cleansing to...it may be that they need to do a series of liver/gallbladder flushes and colonics first before undertaking a detox of any magnitude. or all those salads could just be building a cold damp intestinal tract when what they need is fire in the belly....i mostly recommend people do their own research, and make up their own minds about what makes sense to them, what feels right to them, but to keep searching for answers through the scientific method (trial and error). don't believe anything you read or hear, especially if its promoting the sale of some product or service. find your own rhythm and answers, the power to heal yourself lies in your hands. also this process doesn't take place overnight...for me it's been a gradual replacement of bad stuff with "good" stuff...years and years of experimenting and reading and talking to other people. i honor whatever path you are on to move your body towards the highest good. don't be too hard on yourselves for slipping...it's just a part of the process.
_________________________________________________________________________________
* have positive motives for your diet * avoid the poisons of obsession, hate, fear, ego, zealotry * raw/living foods - an excellent diet, but a terrible religion. Don't make it your religion! It can be incorporated into your spirituality if you wish, but don't make it more important than your spiritual path. * It is better to be a cooked food eater with a healthy emotional/mental relationship to food, than to be a raw fooder who has an UNhealthy emotional/mental relationship to food. However, best of all is to be a raw fooder who has a healthy emotional/mental relationship with food.

I have one right now but it's not the best and I've been looking at the Jack Lalanne one-which I've heard is pretty good and not very expensive. Or the Omega 8003 but it's much more expensive. One of my main requirements is for it to be inexpensive since I am a broke student but I also don't want one that will break or not work correctly. I am fairly new at juicing and I know I'll be using mine daily so I'll need one that will be able to hold up to daily use. Thanks, any suggestions would be great for me!

Plastic Bottle Ban?
Manufacturers, retailers, and regulatory agencies consider eliminating a potentially harmful chemical from plastic sport and baby bottles.
By Lisa Farino

Responding to growing consumer concern, sports-bottle maker Nalgene announced today that it will be phasing out the use of the chemical bisphenol-A (BPA) in its plastic containers over the coming months.

BPA is a common building block of hard polycarbonate plastics (such as sports bottles, baby bottles, and eye glasses) and is also found in the resin lining of metal food and beverage cans.

Because BPA mimics estrogen, there has been increasing concern that exposure, especially by fetuses, newborns, and infants, may cause long-term health impacts such as early puberty in girls, reproductive problems, and cancers later in life.

Nalgene currently makes about a half-dozen different sports bottles, including ones made from stainless steel and also BPA-free plastics. Only one of its six bottle types includes BPA. Customers who wish to buy BPA-free sports bottles before Nalgene’s phase-out is complete can visit the Nalgene Choice website to learn more about Nalgene’s current BPA-free options.

Canada Plans BPA Ban

Across the border, retailers throughout Canada have been releasing plans to remove BPA-containing sports and baby bottles from their shelves. On Wednesday, Wal-Mart Canada announced that it would immediately stop selling baby bottles, sippy cups, pacifiers, food containers, and water bottles that contain BPA.

Many of these retail changes followed an anonymous media leak earlier this week that Health Canada would declare BPA to be toxic.

The official announcement came today as Canada’s Minister of Health, Tony Clement, declared that the Canadian government is taking action to reduce BPA exposure, especially in newborns and infants.

“We have immediately taken action on bisphenol-A (BPA) because we believe it is our responsibility to ensure families, Canadians and our environment are not exposed to a potentially harmful chemical,” said Clement.

The Government of Canada is proposing a ban on polycarbonate baby bottles and strict limits on BPA in infant formula cans. The government is also seeking to work with industry to develop alternative food packaging. A 60-day public comment period on the proposal will begin tomorrow.

Will the US Follow Suit?

On Tuesday, the National Institute of Health’s National Toxicology Program (NTP) released its draft brief on BPA, which found that current levels of exposure to the chemical did pose “some concern” for fetuses, infants, and children. The main concerns were that exposures in these groups could potentially cause neural and behavioral problems, impact the prostate and mammary glands, and contribute to earlier onset of puberty in girls.

There are no immediate plans in the U.S. to regulate BPA in food and beverage containers.

The report wasn’t intended to make recommendations, says John Bucher, Associate Director of the National Toxicology Program. Rather, the goal was to pull together the literature on the subject, conduct a thorough scientific analysis, and make that information available to regulatory agencies.

“All we can do is point out where the exposures are coming from,” said Bucher. The two biggest culprits he identified were polycarbonate baby bottles and the linings of infant formula cans.

On Wednesday, The Washington Post reported that congressional Democrats were pushing for the FDA to regulate the presence of BPA in food containers and beverage bottles.

Although no regulatory agencies are required to take the report’s findings into account, Bucher says that some agencies—such as the FDA, the EPA, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission—could choose to use the NTP’s findings on BPA. Most likely, these agencies will, at the very least, wait until the draft report has been through a peer review process, which is scheduled for June 11, 2008.

Meanwhile, the NTP is accepting public comments about the BPA report.

What Should I Do?

While the NTP does not make specific recommendations about how other agencies should regulate BPA, they did offer the public some tips for reducing personal exposure if they were concerned. These included:

Don’t microwave polycarbonate plastic food containers. Polycarbonate is strong and durable, but over time it may break down from over use at high temperatures.
Polycarbonate containers that contain BPA usually have a #7 on the bottom.
Reduce your use of canned foods.
When possible, opt for glass, porcelain, or stainless steel containers, particularly for hot food or liquids.
Use baby bottles that are BPA free.

In Love and Light

Pritam

I'm not really interested in health info, but would really appreciate info on tasty combinations.

Has anyone seen the trailer for "Raw For 30 Days"? It's a documentary about six people, who normally eat fast food, who decide to go 100% raw for a month. It features interviews with doctors, experts, and raw foodists including Gabriel Cousens, David Wolfe, and Woody Harrelson.

I am new to raw foods and very interested in hearing from others who are raw foodists and people who are trying to change their lives for the better. Many people in my family have diabetes and I have changed my diet and gone raw to prevent myself from also getting diabetes.

The trailer on Youtube at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSuqCMld00w

There is also a new two-disc DVD set that is available for order called RAW FOR LIFE, which is a encyclopedia of Raw Food, perfect for beginners like me and Raw Food enthusiasts. I have found it to be very helpful, as I have been transitioning to raw foods. It’s about how to live raw, the Raw Food philosophy, why to eat a raw food diet, important medical facts and nutritional information. It’s a very practical guide to becoming raw and staying raw.

Visit the Raw For 30 Days site at:

www.rawfor30days.com

Another great resource I have found is the Raw Summit site, which is at:

www.rawsummit2.com

I joined for the first Raw Summit and found it very helpful and interesting and it’s FREE!

Who here is raw?

I am wondering if any one has any idea as to what I can do for my self to overcome this disfunction. I am currently taking a multi and mag/cal reverse ratio, pantothinic acid and B complex. I have made an herbal mixtute of three parts. 1.Austragulus, valarian, siberian gensing, and licorise. 2.St. johns wart, ginkco. lemon balm, scullcap, chamamile, oat straw. 3.Spiriment, chamimile, and hybiscus. The last set is just to make it taste yummy. I do physical therapy too. It is the nervous system overreacting and affects my circulation. The body does not recieve enough oxygen either. I know it is rare, but if any one has either known someone, or has worked with someone , please let me know what you or they have tried that seemed to work. Thank you and blessing.

I went to a hard core nutrion lecture on Sunday in Malibu by Aajonus Vonderplanitz about the Primal Diet:

http://www.drbass.com/aajonus.html

Anyhow, of course I took everything he said with a grain of salt, I mean some of what he believes sounds counter-intuitive, but most of what he said, although highly uncoventional, made common sense to me.

For starters, he thinks that vegie juices need to be combined with some sort of raw fat, like flax seed oil, coconut oil, spirulina, or some kind of protein that makes the sugars release more slowly throughout the day. Same thing for fruit smoothies...that if it's all fruit, it just spikes your blood sugar and you crash...but if there is some coconut cream, or some kind of raw fat like avocado, it has more of a time release thing...he also thinks that we don't need as much fiber, and gave the green light for tossing it all and just drinking the juice...he is not an advocate of salads. I tasted my first raw meat...and no i didn't get sick. I had known a small handful of people that tried this for a few years and said they felt great...of course you have to know the source is pure.

Just a reminder that organic fruits and veggies are the best to juice because any toxins in the environment will pass through and become accumulated toxins in the body.

Please read the interview and post any thoughts or impressions...let's open up a discussion about raw fat!!!!

Many people are now convinced—Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV), that wonderful “old-timers” home remedy, cures more ailments than any other folk remedy and has been highly regarded throughout history. In 400 B.C. the great Hippocrates, Father of Medicine, used it for its amazing health qualities.

The reported cures from drinking Apple Cider Vinegar are numerous and include: allergies (including pet, food and environmental), sinus infections, acne, high cholesterol, flu, chronic fatigue, Candida, acid reflux, sore throats, contact dermatitis, arthritis, gout, and even heart pain. Apple Cider Vinegar breaks down fat and is widely used to lose weight. It has also been reported that a daily dose of apple cider vinegar in water has soaring blood pressure under control in two weeks!

For centuries, the benefits from cider vinegar to fight infection, promote digestion, fighting osteoporosis, have been well known. One of the first goals on the way to great health is to restore the body's pH to the alkaline range. As nearly all chronic illnesses take place in a body that has become acidic due to the gradual depletion of its mineral reserves, it is logical to check on the body's acid/alkaline balance and to work towards maintaining it in the alkaline range. The state of the body's acid/alkaline balance can be easily measured by testing the urine using pH strips.

INTERNAL BENEFITS:
.	Rich in enzymes & potassium
.	Naturally supports a healthy immune system
.	Helps control weight
.	Helps soothe dry throat
.	Promotes healthy digestion & pH balance
.	Helps remove body sludge & toxins

ACV is also a natural antibiotic germ fighter, fights E. coli and other bacteria. It is an excellent remedy for food poisoning and helpful in digestive upsets. ACV helps control and normalize weight and improve digestion. ACV helps relieve arthritis stiffness and rheumatism.

Use two teaspoons (2 t.) in a pint of water daily for yourself—or one teaspoon in the dog or cat’s drinking water—as a healthy tonic. Drink a daily tonic of apple cider vinegar to help you keep the right pH balance in the urinary tract, since the proper acidity creates an inhospitable environment for bacteria and yeasts that cause these infections.

EXTERNAL BENEFITS:
.	Helps maintain healthy skin
.	Helps promote a youthful, healthy body
.	Soothes irritated skin
.	Relieves muscle pain from exercise

ACV helps to maintain healthy skin, promote youthful, healthy bodies. Soothes pain of sunburn, the itch from bug bites, and the sting from plants. ACV helps prevent dandruff, itching scalp, baldness, and dry skin. ACV soothes tight aching joints, sore muscles. Apple cider vinegar also removes sebum and environmental and product buildup on the hair shaft.

COMBINE WITH NATURAL BEE HONEY TO:
.	Relax the nervous system
.	Promote deep sleep
.	Relieve rheumatism
.	Relieve arthritis
.	Relieve bone and muscle pain and soreness
.	Relieve heart ailments
.	Relieve stress
.	Relieve insomnia

Mix organic apple cider with pure raw honey and drink at night before going to bed. Great for calming nerves, promoting relaxation and relief of bone related ailments. Adjust the amount of vinegar and honey for comfort and taste. See my recommended recipe here:

RECIPE:
250 mL (8 oz) Purified Water (warm enough to melt honey)
1 to 2 teaspoons Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (Organic recommended)
1 to 2 teaspoons Honey (Local, raw, non-GMO recommended)

(Honey comes from flowers and has a very light energy. I recommend honey from flowers that are known to provide support for heart and lungs. Use local honey to help provide relief from allergies and build immunity.)

Apple Cider Vinegar is proving very beneficial to people and animals with arthritis because it breaks down calcium deposits in the joints while re-mineralizing the bones. It has shown to be equally beneficial to dogs with hip dysplasia. ACV is also effective for urinary tract infections, and it lowers high blood pressure. In animals, it is helpful in skin and coat problems and in replacing potassium depletion. (Cranberry juice is also a well-known home remedy for urinary tract infections. It prevents bacteria from attaching to the walls of the urinary tract.)

A new University of California-Davis Medical Center study shows that daily consumption of 12 ounces of apple cider or apple juice can reduce the risk of heart disease. And the benefits don’t stop there. A recent Cornell University study found that the antioxidants in apples also inhibit the growth of certain types of cancer cells.

ACV has been found to protect arteries from harmful buildup of plaque. Many heart attacks are caused by high amounts of fats and cholesterol in your blood. The fiber in ACV helps to absorb fats and cholesterol by expelling them from the body as waste materials.

ACV is used to promote the health of veins and capillaries; it is also useful in assisting in the health of the heart. The potassium found in apple cider vinegar is also beneficial to the heart.

The dietary fiber in ACV is beneficial in controlling glucose levels in the blood. Minerals like manganese, calcium, magnesium, silicon and iron develop bone mass and make them stronger. It is also a rich source of amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

ACV boosts the immune system and acts as a natural antiseptic and anti-biotic. Apples contain Vitamin C and flavonoids, which helps with wound healing and in reducing the severity of colds and flu symptoms. Apple cider also has acetic acid, plus ion-futynic lactic and propionic acids. It is the richest source of amino acids known.

Apple cider cannot cure cancer, but it is valuable to have around to help fight free radicals in the body. Beta-carotene, found in apple cider vinegar, is a powerful antioxidant, which helps to neutralize the free radicals formed in the body through oxidation. To prevent these free radicals, and to keep them in check, we need antioxidants to rid our body of these potentially dangerous compounds. Left alone, free radicals have the run of our bodies; they damage cells, which leads to cellular degeneration. The pectin in apple cider vinegar adds fiber to the diet, which helps prevent cancer, especially colon cancer. Fiber binds with certain cancer-causing compounds in the colon, and speeds up their elimination from the system.

VITAMINS IN APPLE CIDER VINEGAR:
.	Vitamin C
.	Vitamin E
.	Vitamin A
.	Vitamin B1
.	Vitamin B2
.	Vitamin B6
.	Pro-vitamin beta-carotene
.	Vitamin P

MINERALS & TRACE ELEMENTS IN APPLE CIDER VINEGAR:
.	Potassium
.	Calcium
.	Magnesium
.	Phosphorous
.	Chlorine
.	Sodium
.	Sulfur (the mineral - not the sulfa, which some people are allergic to)
.	Copper
.	Iron
.	Silicon
.	Fluorine

BENEFITS FOR YOUR DOGS (AND OTHER PETS):
Every home with dogs should have Apple Cider Vinegar. It has multiple uses for dogs, including: alleviating allergies and arthritis, and establishing correct pH balance of the system.

Added to your pet's drinking water, ACV has shown to maintain the acid/alkaline balance of the digestive tract. To find your dog's pH level, get some pH strips at your local drugstore. First thing in the morning test your dog's urine. If the strip reads from 6.5 - 7.0, then your dog's system is what it should be. If the pH is higher, then the system is too alkaline, and ACV can help to establish a correct pH balance.

Use a few drops in your dog's ears after cleaning to avoid ear infections. ACV can be used in the prevention of muscle weakness, arthritis, calluses on elbows, hocks and joints, pimples, and sore joints. It has also been shown to be useful in the prevention of bladder and kidney stones, and bladder and kidney infections.

A dog with a correct pH balance is less likely to be bothered by fleas, black flies, ticks, and other external parasites. Its regular use results in less chance of ringworm, staph infections, streptococcus, and mange. If you are already experiencing these problems, dilute ACV with equal amounts of warm water and sponge onto your dog's coat.

You can also mix a 50/50 vinegar-water solution and add to a spray bottle to spray the coat. The ACV balances the pH of the skin and makes it less desirable to bacteria, bugs and infection. Not only that, but their coat is very soft and shiny. Applying undiluted apple cider vinegar to the affected area can soothe bee and wasp stings, as well as itchy mosquito bites.

MY PERSONAL RECOMMENDATION:
I have personally used and highly recommend Bragg® Certified Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar. It is unfiltered, unheated, unpasteurized, has 5% acidity, and contains the amazing Mother of Vinegar, which occurs naturally as strand-like enzymes of connected protein molecules.

Bragg® Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar is made from delicious, healthy, organically grown apples. Processed and bottled in accordance with USDA guidelines, it is Certified Organic by Organic Certifiers and Oregon Tilth; and is Kosher Certified.

Bragg® Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar is full of zesty natural goodness. It is a wholesome way to add delicious flavor to salads, veggies, most foods, and even to sprinkle over popcorn.

Bragg® Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar has a pH of 4.075, Concentration/ Strength = 63 grain, Acetic Acid = 5.14 %, Potassium = 24mg/T. <2% DRV / RDI.

Many blessings,
I juice 92 ounces of green vegetable juices at a time for a three-day period. As I juice the vegetables, I pour the juices into a gallon container. After I have juiced 92 ounces (not including foam), I place 3 ounces of juices and 4 ounces of untreated raw honey in an 8-ounce jar, screw washer/blades/base on jar. I place the jar upside down on the blender and blenderize for 5-10 seconds to thin the honey. I pour the honey/juice mixture into the remaining 89 ounces and gently stir. The honey helps to preserve the juices. Then, I pour the 96 ounces into twelve 8-ounces glass jars. I fill the jars to the top, seal with Ball-jar lids and store them in the refrigerator. There should be no more than 1 tablespoon of airspace in each jar. My test showed that refrigerated juices stored that way retained 90-03% nutrient value in a 78-hour period.
Twinkie’s sidenote: remember that the live enzymes will be gone after you go and refrigerated, but the vitamins, minerals and nutrients can be preserved in this way.

In fact, during the Pacific War of 1941-45, both sides in the conflict regularly used coconut water - siphoned directly from the nut - to give emergency plasma trasfusions to wounded soldiers.

Most coconut water is still consumed fresh in tropical coastal areas - once exposed to air, the liquid rapidly loses most of its organoleptic and nutritional characteristics, and begins to ferment.

1 1/2 Gal. Raw Organic Fireweed/Wildflower Honey
1 1/2 Gal. Raw Organic Orange Blossom Honey
1 Gal. Canned Black Cherries and Juice
1 Gal Frozen Strawberries
1/2 Gal. Blueberries
1 Quart Blackberries
5 Lb. Mixed Pineapple, Banana, Papaya and Mango
1 Qt. Mangosteen Juice
1 Qt. Pomegranate Juice
1/4 Cup Allspice
1/4 Cup Cinnamon
1/4 Cup Nutmeg
1/4 Cup Allspice
1/4 Cup Cloves
2 Oz. Dried Heather Flowers and Tips
4 Vanilla Beans
1Cup Dark Raw Chocloate Powder
2 Cups Scottish Yeast and the 2 Cups of Beer it was stored in
2 Oz.Yeast Nutrients

It has just begun to ferment at the rate of one bubble every 30 seconds. Our batch of Dark Heineken got fermenting faster than 1 bubble per second! I hope it is ready for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

I tried real hard to get Heather Honey, but had no luck. Can anybody help? I'm willing to pay quite a bit of money for it to be shipped from Scotland. I've read in Buhner's Sacred And Healing Herbal Beers that Pure Heather Blossom Honey is the consistency of Jello, which may account for the confusion over whether the Ambrosia of the Gods was a solid or a liquid.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Liquify all ingredients in blender.
Mix together all ingredients in a large glass water jug (carboy).
Wait 6 months to 5 Years, freely sampling as it progresses!!
Repeat making recipe and sampling as necessary. CAUTION!! There will be pieces of Cherry Pit in your Mead!!

After 6 Months you can begin using Mead in your cooking. It makes a great sauce for beef, lamb, poultry, and pork. Add some Cayenne Pepper and Horseradish for a great seafood dip.

This is a very flexible recipe. Add any fruits and spices that get your taste buds quivering. The only ESSENTIAL ingredients for it to be Mead are Honey and Heather. Well, technically, only Honey. Preferably Heather Honey.

So, here goes. Usually I do this right after New Years...got a little delayed this year...but normally it's to kick-start the new year of health and well-being. Clearing out some toxic mental/physical stuff takes a lot of intention and action!

7 days - Vegan
7 days - Raw Vegan
7 days - Juicing

In between I suppliment with Supergreen Food (Dr. Schultze's and/or Dr. Deandrea's)
Probiotics, and the last 2 weeks I'll also do some Psyllium Husk and Bentonite Clay from Sonne's)

I will get one colonic a week to assist in pulling out the metals and toxins and gas that accumulates and wants to come out.

http://www.venturacenter4healing.com/faq.htm

I started last Monday and so far so good...a little irritable that day...getting off caffeine, white refined sugar, fried foods...although I had a handful of french fries the other day off someone else's plate...rules are meant to be broken I guess (lol!)

My first colonic is tonight at 8pm, so I am fasting today on juice alone. 2 fresh juices from Wild Oats so far...lots of garlic, ginger, and lemon, and some Naked juice in between...I try not to drink anything an hour beforehand...but want to go to the gym and do aerobics first, so might get thirsty...bouncing up and down and raising the knees about the belly button are great to move stuff along...trampoline is better though.

I'll keep you posted on my progress, especially when I get to the juicing part.

Here's a couple links I found...two perspectives to consider...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
PERSPECTIVE #1

Processed vs. Natural Juices

This is a quick look at the differences between processed (canned or bottled) juices and fresh, natural juices that is made with your juice machine.

Processed Juices

Bottle juice is pasteurized and the nutrients are depleted.
Juices made from imported produce may carry traces of banned pesticides.
Juices from fruit concentrates do not contain the whole fruits and they may be nothing more than sugar water -- possibly made with chemicals in water from industrial sites.
Acids from juices can leech metal from cans, causing canned juice to spoil.
Wax and other chemicals found in juice containers can taint the juice.
Shrink-wrapped juice cartons come under high heat that depletes enzymes in juice.

Natural Juices

Natural juices contain all the vitamins, minerals, fluids, enzymes, amino acids and chlorophyll (with no toxic additives) found in raw vegetables - thereby helping the body by:

Promoting growth and development
Assisting with digestion
Providing energy
Protecting against oxidation
Renewing cells
Enriching Blood

We always recommend juicing organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible.

Click here for further information and articles:

http://www.discountjuicers.com/information.html

----------------------------------------------------------------

PERSPECTIVE #2

Pasteurized Juice

Pasteurized juice is safest because it has been heated hot enough and long enough to kill bacteria.

Pasteurization is the process of heating liquid or semi-liquid foods to a particular temperature for a designated period sufficient to destroy certain bacteria.

Pasteurized vs. unpasteurized

Pasteurization is the process of heating liquid or semi-liquid foods to a particular temperature for a designated period sufficient to destroy certain bacteria.

Unpasteurized juice (often called “fresh juice”) has not been through this process. Published reports indicate that over 95% of the juice consumed by Americans each year is pasteurized. However, because pasteurized and unpasteurized juice may look and taste the same, you may not know if the juice you buy and serve is pasteurized or not.

Risks associated with unpasteurized juice

Recent foodborne illness outbreaks associated with unpasteurized apple and orange juices have sickened hundreds, even proving fatal for a few. While all people are at risk for foodborne illness, some groups of individuals are at greater risk for developing more severe symptoms.

These "high-risk groups" include: young children, senior citizens, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.

http://www.co.boulder.co.us/health/environ/foodsafety/factsheets/juicePasteurized.htm

---------------------------------------------------------------------

My thoughts are that juicers are expensive...my first one was a Krups, which was only $40, but the one I have now is an Omega 9000 and it was $249. Juicing takes a lot of time, you have to get the organic produce, wash it, spin it, cut it up, then clean everything etc...then even if you make a lot of it and seal it up in a glass mason jar with little air in there, the live enzymes are dead after 15 minutes or so, although you still get the vitamins and minerals. Juice places like Robeks or your food co-op can be expensive, as can the bottled stuff from Evolution or Harvest (which now is pasturized unfortunately.) But it's not always convenient to juice or to get fresh juice. But, I feel like with juice fasting, you have to go out of your way and endure the inconveniences...you won't get the same benefits from drinking Tropicana...you'll get a lot of sugar that will keep you going, but you'd be missing out on all the great stuff out there. I recommend that people figure out a way to save some money and maybe vacation time to do this. It's not easy. Fasting can and does take a lot out of you (literally.) Mentally, physically, emotionally it's a journey and a learning experience. It's a time to be introspective and to grow and to learn more about your body and how to listen to what it is telling you...how to heal yourself, how to unveil what intuitive processes might be trying to break through. It's so much more than just losing a few pounds or kick-starting a healthy lifestyle. Please read as much as you can...there is no one way that is necessarily better than another...just find what works best for you, what makes sense to you and go from there. Don't forget to take everything with a grain of salt, and to have fun! Good Luck :D

For a while I was juicing carrots constantly. I was easily going through 16-32 oz. of carrot juice daily. Sometimes more. I noticed my skin had a slight golden-orangey cast to it, and my palms & feet were outright yellow. I've cut down significantly and am back to my usual color. But I've heard different thoughts on what causes the change in pigment. (It's called carotenosis.)

Some say it's carotene build up in the bloodsteam causing your skin to turn yellow, it's harmless and the only way to stop it is to stop drinking so much carrot juice.

Another group argues that you don't turn red from beet coloration, and explain something along the lines of: that its a cleansing effect from the bile in the liver. Then when the liver is satisfactorily cleansed, you go back to your regular skin tone even if you continue with large quantities of carrot juice.

Basically, I just got bored with drinking so much carrot juice after a couple of months, so I never actually was able to test the theory out. But has anyone had the experience of drinking large quanities of carrot juice and eventually retain your original skin pigment?

just curious but it seems im more a winter and veg juicer. maybe its because i need it more in winter and happy to munch on fresh fruit in summer rather than juice. do other vary like that?

also do you go for organic, i do but it costs an arm and a leg...maybe thats also why i dont juice fruit as much?

finally how often in a week do ppl juice? im curious because i believe too much fresh juice makes one rather too regular as they say! hehehe lol
