Tonasket is the Grandaddy of Barter Faires and great if you can make it. I've been talking with friends about smaller Faires and one day Barter Parties for local economics and neighborhood building. Just putting it out there. We can end-run the banks!

Re: Neighborhood Barter Parties
Tue, October 21, 2008 - 8:07 PMsince I was unable to make it to Tonasket this year, I know that I would be interested in some smaller local barter parties/fairs. Let me know if people show an interest & I would be willing to donate my time & experience to the putting together of one/many. -

Thu, October 23, 2008 - 10:42 AMGreat idea Bombadil. You can definatly build your local food connections, and creat a stronger community through local trade faires. Especially important on the west side of the mountians. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Re: Neighborhood Barter Parties
Thu, October 23, 2008 - 8:10 PMThanks for the votes of confidence. I am talking to some neighbors about really tiny trade gatherings. While Barter Faire was happening I was doing some little trades over here; traded chanterelles for raw honey and apple wine! I will post here if anything happens.
Mostly, I was posting to tell people that they can start bartering now. Don't wait for the Barter elders to organize your party. Just ask some people to your house to bring their crafts, produce and unused items to trade. Encourage them to do the same. Instead of Christmas Craft Fairs do Christmas Barter Fairs. As the number crunching, bean counting, digital economy fails we still have real goods to trade! We can support each other as we have for a million years before the fat kings forced us to trade in their markers. We are wealthier than they want us to believe. We don't need more stuff. We need to circulate the stuff we have and the love we need.
Yes, we can!
Love;
