Im sorry again for being absent for so long again. I lost my best friend and companion the last week of September. While being watched and played with by a great friend, Caesar was attacked by an Owl judging by the tracks and taken away. I am still trying to deal with this as Caesar is irreplaceable in my heart and this winter will be very lonely without him.
In the last couple of months my tendonosis has flared up making it painfully hard to get my wood in for the predicted extra cold winter ahead. Again this is a reason for my absence too. The state that I live has a General assistance program for the unemployable that due to my condition makes me eligible for. With this assistance I will be able to fight for SSDI. I will be able to “fight” for my own money back, hahaha, aint that a bitch! Tendonitis or Tendonosis (the acute or chronic condition) is also at the top of the list for the Medical Marijuana program due to how painful the chronic condition is.
The loss of my best friend has broken my heart but in no way do I blame my friend. God I feel is telling me that during this fight I may not be able to take him with or care for him so his kind little soul was needed elsewhere but this makes it no less painful.
Just wanted to share my loss as I do my joys.

It has come to my attention that viewers are having trouble opening a link I included in a previous post. This previous message was posted as a loving message to get word out about something that I stumbled upon and found to be a great source of hope. It hurts to imagine that such a movement of healing and love as this would be labeled as SPAM. One Family Gathering and Llama Family Reunion - You've gotta hear this...

Hello Family,

I’ve waiting long enough, I’ve had so many things to say about what happened during One Family Gathering; I’ve had a hard time distilling it. I’ve realized however, I’m insulated from having to explain everything by having signed our membership agreement. Hence, everything is a trade secret. That’s a load off my mind.

I will divulge a few details however. The first One Family Gathering was the most amazing weekend of my life thus far. I learned more in a few days than I ever thought I could. Out of nowhere a community appeared, spectacular acts performed brilliant shows to the greatest of audiences. Thank you to everyone who made it possible. At this point, I must move on to what has happened since I left the event. Immediately upon returning to the outside world I received e-mail from a reporter with Rolling Stone Magazine who seemed interested in our event, the community that it grew from, and specifically about Avvy of the Llama Family. I told him our story and when he asked of my involvement with the Llama Family Reunion I told him I had never been to one but intended to bring support staff to the event this year; little did I know…

Two days later I received a call from Jess Blue, she and I had been hired to produce the 3rd annual Llama Family Reunion. We had 5 weeks, no budget, a skeleton of a lineup, no PA, no lights, no power, nothing really; but Rolling Stone Magazine was going be there; using this event to define what the Pacific Northwest’s barter faire and music scene is.

It’s been a week or so since then and things have progressed a TON. A full-fledged barter fair and music festival is coming to shape before my eyes. We have a great team forming, producers, promoters, musicians, and volunteers are coming together to bring what could be the greatest lineup ever to a barter faire stage.

This event begins on June 20th and a tentative and incomplete lineup of acts includes; UnHailoed, HIGH, Bens Jazz Kit, The Staxx Brothers, Jason Curtis, DAG, Fiddlin' Big Al and Matt Kelly, Joel Blackstone, Candysound, Puget Sound System, Ken Peterson of John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band with an all star jam, The Panda Conspiracy, Stinky Pete Irving, Man Overboard, Hannah*s Field, High Ceiling, Matt Zeltzer, NIAYH, Bazil Rathbone, and Hippinshlog. If we all pray together maybe Katie Hanson will decide to grace us with her presence to run the stage again.

The site for this event will be the Trailhead Bed & Breakfast in Troutlake, Washington, which is about an hour from Portland. You can check it out online at www.trailheadbnb.com . Sorry everybody there will be no dust-devils or sandstorms at this event, it will be dog free as well.
Presale tickets will are available online and from some of the acts or from me for $35 for the weekend. Vendors pay only $50 and can contact Hallie, onefamilygathering@gmail.com for details. We’ll be accepting a few volunteers as well, they must be experienced and hard working, e-mail me weatheroutside@gmail.com for details. Roving and freestanding non-musical performers and artists should contact me as well to plug in for this event.

For this event Oregon Crew will provide our security. Patrick Baker and Knot Don have agreed to come up from Eugene with 6 people to run security and work with our volunteers. Oregon Crew are the guys who worked road crew for the Grateful Dead for many years and they are cool as hell. You may know these guys from one of the other shows they help run; The Oregon Country Fair.

A few key positions are still available in the eco-village, kiddie village, parking crew, and CALM. We’re also interested in trained medical personnel who would like to participate in our first aid team. Our events are intended to build community and it takes many hands to complete such a great task. It’s my hope that by working together we’ll be able to make this event the barter faire we’ve all been waiting for.

There is a series of military "terror prevention exercises" reportedly scheduled in Seattle for the first week of May, involving scenarios for the destruction of the Alaska Viaduct, the blowing up of a tanker containing deadly chemicals at the ferry terminal and much much more.

All of these are reportedly planned out of Fort Lewis, with surprise implants and "Continuity of Government" operations possibly scheduled to coincide with the mass demonstrations to shut down the Port of Seattle and demand immigrant rights on May 1.

All activsts need to be aware that such "military terror prevention exercises" coincided with the terrorist attacks on 9/11 in New York/Washington DC and in London on 7/7, with the odds of this being mere coincidence several billion to one.

The major source for this is Captain Eric May, of whom you possibly know. Although May is suspect in some circles, his take on this needs to be considered.

The duty to keep the government honest isn't optional for those of us who have taken an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. My heart is stretched full of rich memories and expectation. It has been an emotional roller coaster fair witnessing this process. Now I ask that we put watchmen of the walls of Allen's cell, that angels visit continuously, that a sweet fragrance fill his nostrils, that his person, tongue and his sweet heart be guarded!, that he find favor, like Joseph in Pharaoh's dungeon, with the guards and staff. Please join in.

It is not my desire to tell you how to pray but to ask that we support and protect our brother with daily prayer. Ask for mercy and provision. Petition that legal maneuvering accomplish a good end. Ask that doors open miraculously that will fill his time with purpose and excitement.

I am available as needed. Avvy's separation will not extinguish my love but cause it to grow stronger.

It is not 'llama drama' that I crave but truth and peace for all.

Resignation as Executive Producer of 3rd Annual Llama Family Reunion

I would like to respectfully resign as executive producer of the 3rd annual Llama Family Reunion. I mean no disrespect for Avvy's wishes but cannot facilitate an event without a budget. It is my desire to provide a safe environment for all guest in attendance. Without money to provide essential Medical Staff, Porta Potties, Security, among several other things, I feel it is not in my best interest to continue this effort. It is also my feeling that beyond budget issues it is also impossible for me to overcome the difficulties in communication and cooperation that my team has encountered in dealing with those who feel they have vested interest in the project.
The Llama Family Reunion is still slated to continue and will benefit greatly from the love and support your community will show it.

Newspaper story about One Family Gathering near Christmas Valley

Beginning Friday, May 2, One Family Gathering took place just West of Christmas Valley. In attendance for the 3 day event were over 700 people from Oregon, Washington, California and even farther.

Bud Weather was one of the main personnel working the event, he brought the event together. He carried a walkie talkie that was always spouting out the goings-on around the grounds, and seemed to be everywhere at once. Weather has the type of personality that reaches out to you the minute you meet him, magnetic and energetic.

One thing he was very clear on was rules. A list of rules that everyone had to abide by, including number seven, section F, “In all OneFamilyGathering.org activities, all participants share in the responsibility for their own safety and the safety of the group.”

The festival took place on private property and One Family Gathering came equipped with law enforcement in the event something happened. “Law enforcement is taken care of in-house. If there is a big problem we will give it over to (local) law enforcement. Otherwise, it is all taken care of as a family, because we are all one family,” stated Weather. Over the course of the weekend, 7 arrests, and 1 seizure took place, according to the police report.

The DJ tent, set up by The Oregon Crew, who set up shows for The Grateful Dead, held a 24-hour surge of loud music by over 14 different DJ’s throughout the 3-day event.

“The locals are really happy to have us here,” Weather said. “We really haven’t had any complaints from the people we’ve talked to so far.”

‘Bringing Harmony to Music’, is the motto. Harmony Event Medicine is a Non-Profit Organization 501(c)(3) based in Eugene. Providing basic life support medical aid, naturopathic remedies, and crisis assistance services to patrons of large gatherings, events, and concerts. They aim to provide a personalized and comfortable environment for large gatherings of any kind. For more information on Harmony Event Medicine, go to www.harmonyeventmedicine.org. With a 35 member medical team on staff consisting of doctors, nurses and an onsite ambulance, the festival was prepared for anything.

“This is actually our sixth summer doing this,” Jeff Sutton said. “This is our vacation. So, getting out and getting to enjoy the music and meeting lots of different people, some you only get to see two or three times a year, is a really good thing all in all.” Sutton is the executive director of HEM.

Among the everyday patrons of the event were some pretty famous people. Normal Bean has his own TV show, The Normal Bean Show, and has his own band. He toured with CCR, Collective Soul and more, including Ken Petersen on an eight city tour for peace. He travels on a bus called Further and says, “We could have another festival here in Oregon besides the Country Fair. We could put a whole bunch of money into this county here and (if) everyone get(s) along, we’ll come back again.”

Ken Petersen, who is a musician, composer and more, happened to play with John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band. Petersen, who stars in the Ken Petersen Band, came all the way from Florida to join in the music festival.

“It’s very enjoyable,” Petersen said. “I think it’s just amazing what they (One Family Gathering) pulled off.” Petersen plays with Normal Bean on a regular basis.

On the East side of the camp was a hydraulic powered, fire resistant tent. Inside, the live bands were jammin’! Playing the event were such bands as Normal Bean (with his Prankster Surprise), Bazil Rathbone, Ken Peterson, Wehrwolve, Bens Jazz Kit and many more.

Vendors selling homemade goods such as jewelry and clothing were all around the camp. The Oregon Crew and some of the bands made camp in the VIP section. The Oregon Crew had a canvas tent in which they painted faces of different race, age and color. A wonderful piece of artwork that truly represents what this music festival stands for.

BARTERFAIRE 101, BACK TO BASICS...

Barterfaire 101, back to basics…

There seems to be a need to teach the basics on how to conduct ourselves at the faires. There is a lack of respect not only towards the family circle but a lack of respect for the land, landowners and neighbors. Remember you are a GUEST on someone’s land, and in someone else’s neighborhood. So with that said I hope we all can learn from this post.

Please feel free to copy and distribute this post and to add to it as needed.

1. The barterfaire is NOT a drug fest or giant party, nor is it a place to pedal your drugs. If people continue to treat the faires like this they and the faires wont be around much longer. I have watched over the past year the damage the past law enforcement investigations have caused. I have witnessed many family members either go to jail after being set up on controlled buys or forced to be snitches. Remember you are being watch and recorded plus since last year’s busts you don’t know who is working with law enforcement to reduce their time in jail. It could be anyone, even someone you think you know.
2. Use the bathroom facilities provided at the faire. When you go in the bushes or woods, and don’t bury your deposit properly the flies go from your shit to the food vendors, then to your food and when you eat the food you and everyone else gets sick. Also I see a LOT of shitty toilet paper in the woods and bushes, this is very unhealthy and very disrespectful to the land and landowners. If you have to use the woods be sure to dig a hole at least 2ft deep and make sure you bury everything well. You can also use COLD ash from a fire pit to cover your deposit before you bury it.
3. RESPECT THE NEIGHBORS!!! Yelling “barterfaire” is fun and is ok during the day but when you yell it at night you piss off the neighbors and invite the cops into the faire to hassle us. Loud car stereos do the same thing. It is NOT COOL to force others to listen to your music. Be respectful to everyone and keep the volume down.
4. DO NOT CUT LIVE TREES TO BURN!!! Someone did this at our fall faire at Scotia rd. This will not be tolerated. If this continues the landowners will not allow us to circle there again. As it stands right now we only have ONE place to circle Respect the landowners and the land or this could be our last faire season.
5. Be discrete! If you are going to smoke, take it in the woods or in a CLOSED tent. You are being watched. Also watch what you say and how loud you say it as you are most likely being recorded too. The reason this is happening is because we all have been too open in our activities and this has to change now. Remember, Medical laws have no provision for “passing” medicine
6. NO ALCOHOL or DRUGS!!! People are trying to sell drugs that are not what they claim they are. These can and do cause unwanted effects and make people very sick Alcohol is an evil drug that severely alters your personality and makes some people mean and sloppy. The undercover cops are using beer cans to hide their cameras and microphones People are also passing counterfeit $5’s $10’s $20’s $50’s and $100’s and there is a simple way to avoid getting burned. Check all bills carefully every time.
7. Watch out for our family vendors. Our family are being ripped off, mainly at night and everyone can help and watch for suspicious behavior.
8. NO UNATTENDED FIRES PERIOD. Keep your personal fire in the “rocks” meaning keep them in your pit and under control. You MUST have a shovel and a 5 gal bucket of water in case of emergency. NO EXCEPTIONS. This is for everyone’s safety. Out of control and unattended fires WILL be put out.
9. This is a BARTERFAIRE! Bring something to barter or trade and not just stuff to sell. Bring plenty of respect, love and peace for all.

The One Family Gathering will be a three day unity gathering near Christmas Valley, Oregon. The festival intends to unify a variety of cultures from many other peaceful gatherings. This event has a focus slightly different from other festivals. We're building the One Family gathering from the ground up, it's never been done before. Therefore there are no preconceived notions of how "it is going to be like last year", so... We're in the stage where the decisions we make now will follow the event into the future.

Two questions:

1. What do we create? anything is possible....

An online public apology to Avvey and the entire Llama Family from Lost_one (Tokin)

I canceled my Lost_one account a few months ago out of shame for my words of hate, the poor way I expressed myself and ignorance on the Llama incident.

I feel I need to apologize to Avvey , the entire Llama family and the barter faire family as a whole, for the words I posted here and on other sites as Lost_One. I spoke, posted, made assumptions and let ill feelings control my fingers, mouth and mind before knowing the people, Family or the facts. In the time since I have been lucky enough to get to know Avvey, and to apologize to him personally face to face, ask for and received his forgiveness for the poor way I expressed myself on line and feel the the need to apologize to the rest of the Family in this open forum, and ask for their forgiveness as well.

In the months since I have learned a lot about Avvey and the rest of the Family and feel lucky for that chance, and for the chance to say I am truly sorry if I have hurt him or put the Family in a bad light in any way here or any place else. I have had the unique opportunity to meet learn from Avvey, even just a little, and the peaceful ways he practices, and look forward to learning more for the little I have learned has been a lot to me.

Without knowing it he has changed the way I see and deal with people and issues on line and on the streets every day and I thank him for that, he may have saved my life. This experience, as bad as it was, was a learning and growing experience for me and I'm sorry it was at other peoples expense. He has taught me through, what I did about love and respect, almost without saying a word, just with a hug.

Anyhow I ask that any Family member ( Llama or not ) that was hurt, offended or damaged in any way by my expressing myself like I did in an improper manner, please find it in your hearts to forgive me, forgive what I wrote and try if they can to show and give the same love, forgiveness and understanding Avvey did and I will understand if this is something you wish not to do.

This has been a huge lesson in humility for me and will do my very best not to ever let ill feelings and ignorance control what i say and how I say it in a negative way ever again. Thank You Avvey, and thank you everyone for your time reading this.

One Family Gathering, May 2-4, Central Oregon

I just wanted to let you know that we've been making progress on setting up a new event that has roots in the "barter fair/peaceful gathering" community.

The One Family Gathering will be a three day unity gathering May 2-4, 2008 near Crater Lake in Oregon.
This festival intends to unify the cultures involved in other peaceful gatherings. It will manifest as a weekend long "barter fair/music festival/rave/reggae show" with a free camping area.

This event is focused slightly differently than a regular barter fair. We will have a large, secure vendors section inside the event (hopefully many of the barter fair regulars will choose to be there). We will also be hosting two stages as well, a "party" tent with nearly nonstop dj's, as well as a main "strings and such" stage. Some of the featured musicians will be Jahson Ites, Jack Burton, Seraphim, Cntrl Alt Delete, DJ Sticky, DJ4NORML, Dj Eff, Min.d, Transient, Electric Avenue, Dough Boy, Ben's Jazz Kit, Rat City Rukas, Daphnie, The Headphones Rebellion, Jensen, Tommy Dean, Hippinshlog, and The Ronz. I'm sure that's not all, we've got more musicians getting on board every day.

BARTER FAIR!!!!

I love the BF, that is why i volunteer to work for it....since the 1st fair that i attended in 1986 or 7, both the event and myself have grown and changed, as has everything else that has been alive the last 20 years...

One thing I have observed since I started attending the fair is that it is not just the one event that is happening when we are all together in the field, but within each person there is an event occurring which is every bit as powerful as the collective....when we get together, the force of love and creativity is strong enough to help and heal all who come around. I've seen this again and again, and that is what makes me glad to spend time supporting the event....

Each of us has her/his own BF in his/her heart-- there are as many points of view as there are people. In order to accommodate the most points of view, we have an ungodly number of meetings in which we hear people out and seek solutions to the problems/issues people raise. We do this in good faith by announcing, holding and attending these meetings throughout the course of each year.

This does not stop a usually small but very vocal group of critics who press their issues with a force of conviction that is not informed, but nonetheless urgent and demanding. After spending the year trying to bring about enough unity to pull off this event, it is more than frustrating to have people come back at us with all the negativity (this comes at us from every direction) we get from those who haven't been involved with the organizing effort, or who came around after all the meetings are done and want to undo the decisions that were made in the meetings they didn't go to.

When someone says things about the fair that are inaccurate or untrue, anyone out in cyberspace gets that information and forms opinions based on it. In this way it is far easier to tear down others' hard work than to do hard work. If you want to know about the Tonasket Barter Fair, then come to Tonasket, Washington, USA, planet Earth, meet us locals and help us out, or bring the products you make in your life and barter 'em....

If we were to engage with each person who puts out misinformation on the internet and respond to each piece of it, there would be no end to the back an forth and we would not have time or energy to do a BF.

What I think makes our BF so special is that we invite people to come be the event---We are the BF, and after 35 years, we here in Tonasket are unified and strong and still evolving.... If you are creative and have love in your heart, we want you to come to the BF---come volunteer, help us take care of the folks, or bring the things you've made or grown and exchange them with people you've just met....the Barter Fair is an event whose theme is "exchange"--what have you got to share?

If all you have to offer the event is your money and your desire to party, then we're a long drive just to do what you can do in your hometown. Our security crew is concerned with public safety and our board wants to perpetuate our yearly event---these are the reasons for our enforcement of a code of conduct---if we didn't keep our act together, then we could either be shut down or overrun with law enforcement, or could just lose the community support needed to hold the event.... we depend on the respect and good behavior of the people who come. Every year that trust has, for the most part, been rewarded with a very sweet and well-loved gathering with a minimum of pain and/ or injury....

As I said before-BF is one event, interpretted and experienced by thousands. I'm posting this statement as only one of the many.

How do you think the Meeting went.

The Annual Okanogan Family Faire was last Friday. There were 60+ people in attendance. The meeting was very respectful and held a good vibe.
There were 6 people nominated with two positions open and to alternates open.
So, Strider was voted back in and Phish was voted in as a new board member.
Bluejay and Gene were voted in as alternates in case of a resignation.
The end count is 7 board members with 2 alternates.

There was good discussion from all people in attendance that this was a great year. There were a few bumps along the way, including the stage issues and how to get beyond miscommunication and non communication. The middle road SEEMED to be that people want to hear all the music but not be subjected to it at the far end of the faire. It was communicated by the stage coordinator (who was unable to attend the faire this year as he was having neck surgery) that he has studied the decibel range over the past few years and believes he can keep the sound in a reasonable area. It was also suggested to just angle the stage so it points out toward hwy 20 and not up the hill to the other end of the faire. It was ALSO discussed to help focus music around the hospitality fires in addition to the stage.
There is more to the stage issues but I believe the parties involved need to work that out on their own.

There was also discussion to keep the vision and strategy committee going for this year. Great Idea. When there is an agenda I will post it.

Keep an eye out on www.okanoganfamilyfaire.net ------I REPEAT .net. This website is in the process of being built.

It seems that the changes made at this years faire were successful as far as most parties were concerned. This year I believe we will be refining the implemented changes.

There has been a positive step made ensuring the Okanogan Family Faire is a safe, positive, family event.

Well, I've procrastinated and thought long enough. This is what I feel happened at the meeting.

When time came to get in the ride there were four of us. Minda - the Free Store Co-Coordinator, Sean – the crew kitchen coordinator, Issac – part of the firewatch crew, and I. The three of us were voting members and Issac came along to see what it was all about.

We arrived a little early, had coffee at Wildwood Espresso, and wandered down to the CCP to listen and put our two cents in. We were slightly early and while the board meeting was finishing up I spoke with a couple of the elders about the situation. First of all I had no clue who I was talking to on tribe. Stephen just so happens to be one of the people who has stood "on our side" you could say, on most of the arguments.

Apparently rumor had it that a "truck load of druggies" were coming to "Steal the Barter Fair"; gotta love rumors…. I assume they were talking about us.

The meeting began with the basic corporate rant, reports from officers and the like.

There was a crazy verification of hours that occurred before voting that had never happened before. I assume that was in response to my argument with Stephen. Makin sure we all had the right to vote. It was verified though that the "membership fee" is the ticket, and anyone who buys one is allowed to speak at the meetings.

That was followed by the election of two board members and two alternates. Fish from First Aid was elected and Strider was given a second term. Bluejay was elected 1st alternative, I don't remember who was next. Errol came up last, I remember that. He still has half a term left though…

The "magic rolling pin" began being passed around the room at that point as people began to express their "O-PIN-ions" about how the festival went. From this point forward it became clear that the primary problem we had amidst our group was communication.

The topic of the stage was brought up, from that point on it became clear that discussion would go no further. Some people want to get rid of the stage, and everything else that implies a party. I really felt at times some of the family had fallen victim to the same kind of thinking that they had run away from in the first place. There were also very thoughtful clear comments in support of unity and understanding.

It's clear that the "Vision Committee" comprised of a small number of locals who meet in a house in Tonasket had forwarded most of the changes that had occurred. Errol seems to have spearheaded the security policy.

I was able to try to squeeze my big picture ideas about the faire into the conversation about the stage. The two cent version is basicly we all need to learn how to make the faire someplace we can all be happy. I don't want to take away your 5 year old's freedom to have my own. If we communicate and work together we can make it a place where all our visions can coexist.

The topic of the internet was discussed. Those eastern folks are resistive as hell. The argument was that it was inconvenient to the elders and they didn't know anything about it, and didn't think it was a necessary tool for communication. Sean did explain the difficulty there is with participating in the OFF process when you don't live there. Not everyone felt that was relative.

We eventually left and spent the night at the commune.

There was no resolution of anything as far as I could tell.

There were signs of an agent provocateur in our midst, people were making arguments based on fear and separation; things just didn't seem right..

I wonder where this will lead. There are five board members up for election next year. I estimate it would only take half a dozen more voting members to sway the vote into the hands of the youth. We have support of some of those who have been involved from the beginning. I guess we're just going to have to work harder next year and get some voting done.

I'd like verification of a rumor I heard while there. Does anyone have any information in regard to a member of security passing information to some federal agency in 2006? The rumor has it that it was FALSE information and that it may have been the seed of the Llama investigation. THIS IS JUST A RUMOR UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE. If I'm given any proof I'll post it here for the world to see.

The proof is still "sealed" by federal court order to be seen only in the presence of a court official, as all the evidence currently is. But that is being fought in court via motions to unseal based on constituationality, and will be set free as soon as possible. But yes, there was a participating member of the supposed security force working with the feds, weather it was with or without approval from the OFF... and more importantly the investigation was pointed towards certain people by under cover agents asking questions at the info booth that should not have been answered, especially in the format that it was answered in.

It is important to know that there was only one member of the llama
family arrested on July 26th. It was an illegal arrest and setup,
and a team of lawyers are working around the clock to fight for my
freedom. I have matured alot over the last couple years and have
literally fallen in love with this community, hence my desire to
weed out problems that past members and friends of my family may
have caused. It is important to realize that the Llama Family is NOT
a drug ring, as the media is ignorantly portraying. The other person
was a friend of mine from childhood but was not a llama family
member, hence his absence from the Llama family reunion this year.
He misrepresented himself as such, and did things the family did not
approve of. I pray for him each day, but am currently mostly focused
on my defense and my freedom. The federal government illegal
arrested me for being at the wrong place at the wrong time on July
26th and are now trying to give me LIFE IN PRISON even though I am a
NON VIOLENT PEACE LOVING PERSON. I can't talk too much about
details, for my own legal protection, but please know that I am
using this as an opportunity to stand up for the rights of our
entire community. Here is a flyer that some of you may have seen
this weekend. Please help me spread this to everyone that has
interest in seeing the barter fair community be the family it is,
and for the community as a whole not to lose it's rights. Thank

meditation, and good vibes both for myself and for my family, wife,

A Critique of the U.S. Federal Governments Attack of Your Rights and
Liberties

BACKGROUND-
On July 26th, 2007 the Federal Government illegally
assaulted and robbed me. Stories and lies were leaked to the media
trying to prosecute me in the arena of public opinion. But the
public media swarm of lies did not simply fall against me and my co-
defendant, but also against the "Barter Fair" family as a whole.
Though I committed NO CRIMES on July 26th, 2007, and am entitled to
a presumption of innocence, the federal government told lies to the
newspapers saying that I committed drug crimes, and perhaps worse,
laid claim that the "Barter Fair" community is one based exclusively
upon drugs. They claimed publicly that our family oriented/spiritual
gatherings, fully protected by 1st amendment rights, are open "drug
markets." This is just one example of all the UNFOUNDED lies that
the Feds are spreading to turn the rest of society against us and
destroy our community.

WHY-
The Federal government is trying to turn public opinion
against our tradition and lifestyle. Just like in the days of Nazi
Germany in the 1930's, they understand that if you devalue public
opinion of a minority group with contrived misinformation, the
majority of society will look the other way when they start denying
the minority due process, civil liberties, or basic human rights.

FACT: Once you justify the denial/removal of the rights of a
minority group or individual, you immediately justify the loss of
your own rights. As you should remember from the pledge of
allegiance, the United State of America is a REPUBLIC. A Republic
is a form of government where 99% of the people can not take away
the rights of 1%… but in this day and age the federal government
seems to think that they can remove and trample on the rights of any
group or individual that has a alternative way of life.

TRUTH-
The "Barter Fair" community is NOT a community of drugs and
partying, as the feds would like the rest of society to believe. It
is a community based on traditional living and purposeful
gatherings. In the early 1820's the area of the Northwest was host
of "rendezvous trade circles" where many native tribes and
communities would gather to trade and barter goods to get them
through the seasons. Our "Barter Fairs" are based upon these
traditional values. Our private events are protected by our 1st
Amendment Rights to gather. The "barter fairs" are usually held on
private land and are PRIVATE spiritual gatherings for our community
to come together to celebrate life, practice our family based tribal
way of life, dance to our folk music, pray for peace, help one
another, have fellowship with our friends and family, expand our
spirituality in the privacy and comfort of family, raise and pass
along traditional education to each other and the children of our
tribes, and trade goods to help one another get through the seasons.
It is a community of love, peace, spirituality, respect, liberty,
and natural traditional living.

PROFILING-
The federal government is trying to say that our gatherings
and community is based on drugs. They claim to occasionally hear of
drug use and activity in our community. It is ridiculous hypocrisy
to hold our community to a higher standard then the rest of society.
At any gathering of people, there will always be a few `bad apples'
in the bunch. Be it a House of Congress, a police convention or a
golf tournament, you will find individuals partaking in drug use and
drug activity. In fact, those gatherings are proven to have more
hardcore drug activity then any of our natural, peaceful gatherings.
They are attacking OUR gatherings instead of theirs because we have
a different way of life: They are criminally slandering our
lifestyle to destroy our gatherings. We can't let them deny us our
rights!

THEIR TACTICS OF WAR-
The federal government is already using tactics of war
against the "barter fair" community. They are already routinely
denying members of the community, including myself, the rights of
due process, and many other rights. For example, I was taken into
custody illegally on July 26th, brutally attacked, denied food and
water and restroom for hours being forced to stand in a puddle of my
own urine. The illegal brutality continued for about 45 days until
finally being released on strict bail conditions limiting my
movement to 100ft of the phone line of the facility that I was
bailed out to. I was denied a probable cause hearing. The affidavit
supporting the warrant for my arrest, which was issued a day AFTER I
was illegally taken into custody, has been sealed. It is your right
as the public to see this affidavit and they refuse to show it. They
are denying me the right to face my accusers by sealing the evidence
against me in order to protect the myriad of confidential informants
working for them. In doing research reviewing hundreds of hours of
surveillance they illegally obtained at our gatherings over the last
year, I would like to share with you some of the TACTICS OF WAR they
ARE USING AGAINST YOU, and tips of how to defend from their assault.
1. Hidden Cameras
Agents have regularly trespassed into our private spiritual
gatherings, especially the Okanogan Family Faire, without permission
or warrant, with hidden video cameras and audio devices. The cameras
are hard to spot as they are disguised as Beer cans, Juice bottles,
buttons on coats, and hats. They profile against people wearing
backpacks and follow around people with long hair. They make a point
to travel around the circle and capture license plate numbers of
every vehicle, so that they can gather information about the owners
of the vehicles for later use.
2. Drug Activity
The feds are partaking of and encouraging the use of drugs while
they spy on our community. They talk people into doing things they
wouldn't normally do like obtaining drugs for them by befriending
family & continuously badgering, begging, asking, and offering large
sums of money. They cause the crimes that they are accusing the
community of doing.
3. Divide and Conquer
This is an old tactic of war that they are using against us. The Fed
spreads lies inside our community in hopes to turn it in on itself.
They tell the media lies to cause a divide in the community. For
example, they told the lies to the media about my illegal arrest, in
hopes that the community will point blame causing a lesion deep
within our family. They post fabrications in public forums alleging
that certain activities have caused various problems within the
community. They know that by dividing a community, they are
weakening it and therefore it is easier to conquer. DIVIDE
CONQUER DESTROY

TIPS
1. Play Music at your Camp. Reviewing the videos and audio, it was
determined that music with heavy bass being played at a camp caused
lots of static on their microphones and made their recordings
inaudible.
2. Do not incriminate yourself or others. Obviously, don't do
anything that can be misconstrued as illegal. Also don't talk about
the illegal activities of others.
3. Cover your license plate. While your vehicle is parked on private
property, the license plate does not have to be visible. Don't allow
them to violate your rights of due process and get your info for
merely being someplace. Cover or remove your plates while at our
gatherings.
4. Unite and stand strong in support of the community. Don't fall
for the lies they are feeding the media. Remember what our community
is really about and stand strong in support of it. Don't fall for
their dividing tactics by pointing fingers, laying blame, or letting
suspicion tear us apart. Treat one another with love and respect and
remember it is our duty to remind each other that our community is
about love, fellowship, peace, and traditional living. Don't let
tempers flare rather approach with compassion and love as family and
educate all of the true values of our community. It's important to
stand strong on our traditions. They can only beat us if we
let them.

The Constitution of this nation protects our rights to gather and
live with spiritual and communal values deeply engrained in our
traditions.

SANDPOINT -- Dozens of local drug users provided city police with information that led to a Thursday arrest that's expected to reduce drug trafficking in Bonner County.
Some of these local drug users, who reportedly ranged from 16 to 24 years, have already been arrested.

Others were confidential informants, Police chief Mark Lockwood said Tuesday.

Lockwood would not comment when asked about the confidential informants and their fates because the investigation continues.

"We spent a year (with this investigation)," he said. "There was a lot of linkage that was done there through criminal analysis."

The investigation involving Sandpoint police going undercover to help federal officials resulted in the arrest two leaders from this major drug trafficking ring known as Llama Tribe. Palmer Hanson, 26, and Allen Lint, 26, both of Yakima, Wash., were arrested in Spokane by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Sandpoint police gained trust of leaders who belong to the Llama Tribe, according to a news release. The group is believed to have supplied up to 90 percent of the acid in the western United States. The group also supplied this area with acid, mushrooms, ecstasy and marijuana.

Sandpoint narcotics detectives learned local drug users obtained these drugs from area barter fairs and brought the drugs to Sandpoint for resale or personal use.

A barter fair is a gathering of people who buy and sell things like jewelry, clothing and food on private property. It's also a market for drugs, which are openly sold and consumed.

These fairs are difficult to bust. Warrants are difficult to obtain because police need to identify who they are after. The property owner generally doesn't deal drugs, but is aware of the activity.

It's believed enough people from the area were going to these barter fairs not to buy drugs for just personal use, Lockwood said.

"These fairs are all part of the investigation," he said. "There's probably a lot of folks who've seen them and attended them."

"This is still an active (drug ring)," Lockwood continued. "We took some people off the top. We don't know where this will lead."

It's possible Hanson and Lint could be charged by Sandpoint police.

"We're going to leave that option on the table," Lockwood said. "It's a joint investigation. They're going through the federal system, but that doesn't exclude filing state charges in the future."

Santa Faire!!!!

Santa, a good time was had by most...

Well my first Santa was a great one with great people. The family atmosphere was awesome with great energy. Lots of vendors made for long days walking around looking at goods. I saw everything from home made hats to WWII Japanese canteen with the cork and string.
There were a few things that weren't that cool such as the bogus $100 bills vendors got and a couple of thefts from a couple of vendors also. Errol and Victoria were hit along with another unknown vendor. I heard of no fights.
There was a lack of food vendors as there was only really one place to eat, and only 2 vegan dishes to choose from made it a bring your own or diet. Beetleburgers was there for the carnivores and one small burger wagon that was there for a day. I think the reason was due to the "no generator" rule. Food vendors just didnt want to take a chance with ice only.
The weather was almost perfect but a little cool at night with a nice coating of frost each morning.
Saturday was the evening potluck and raffle which all the vendors donated to so there were lost of prizes. I purchased 10 tickets and won so many times that after the second time I asked to please pick someone else. I was able to get a jar of my honey that I donated and a pair of groovy tie-dyed socks. The potluck was great starting with the parade of children and circle and ended with center fire and an awesome drum circle all night long.
L.E.O. was at a minimum and were seen by me only on Saturday looking for camp fires and looking at a few vendors wares. They also told the Hosts that we could have a center fire and lifted the restrictions for the night.
All in all I think it was a great faire and will be sure to return next year better prepared for the potluck.
I want to thank all who hosted this wonderful event.

The 2007 Rainbow Gathering is in Ochoco National Forest at a place called Indian Prarie in central Oregon. (between Prineville and Mitchell)
From Prineville:
Take hwy 26 east towards Mitchell. Make a right turn onto hwy 23,(this road is not marked, but is the next two lane paved road after the reservoir, a few miles out of town, to the right) which later turns into hwy 22 and continues to Walton Lake. Soon after the lake, turn left onto FS 150, a dirt road. Go a little ways till 150 ends in a T. Go right onto FS 2630, and continue to the parking lot and Bus Village.
From Mitchell:
Take hwy 26 west towards Prineville. A little ways past the Bandit Springs rest area, go left onto FS 2630. This later becomes FS 2210, and 2630 becomes a less maintained road. Follow FS 2210 to hwy 22. Turn left onto hwy 22 and follow past Walton Lake. Soon after the lake, turn left onto FS 150, a dirt road. Go a little ways till 150 ends in a T. Go right onto FS 2630, and continue to the parking lot and Bus Village.

This is right near the Bridge Creek Wilderness area, and north of the Big Summit Prarie. I can see several springs on the map. Sortof behind the site is the Mt. Pisgah Lookout. It looks to be no more than 6000-6500 feet in altitude.

What is a Rainbow Gathering?

What follows is my take on it. No one put me in charge (thank goodness), so you may get other answers from other folks that add or subtract stuff - but basically I think most folks will be in agreement with what I see as being the basics for a gathering.
It is free and non-commercial. This means no entry fee and no money charged for any service at the event (food, medical, etc.). There are people at gatherings who hang out with the barter circle and essentially have a commercial trip going either with trade or cash, but this is their own personal trip and has nothing to do with the actual set-up of a gathering. I personally consider these folks in violation of the basic spirit of the gathering and wish they would go away, or at least put away their trade goods. But since we have no cops, no courts, and no jails, they continue to do as they please, over the objections of many but also with the support also of many. Anyway, with the exception of these folks who are taking advantage of the free space, you shouldn't find any commercialism at a gathering whatsoever.
Rainbow gatherings are non-aligned both spiritually and politically. There is no one right religious or spiritual belief; people of all faiths are welcome to come gather. Often, people from specific churches or temples come set up their own camp and feed lots of folks from their kitchens (the Krishnas and the Bread of Life Christian camp being the most notable). There are no hassles towards any church group proselytizing or trying to win converts - if people want to listen, that's their own business.
Rainbow also does not support any specific political cause, party, issue, or candidate. Many people come to gatherings to recruit for their own specific Peace Walk, Drums around the Pentagon, environmental action, or whatever; but again, that is their own trip. They certainly have the right of free speech to spread the word about whatever event they are sponsoring. But they do nothave the right to call it a Rainbow event or claim they have support of the Rainbow Family. If they do make such claims, they are ripping off the Family name. Folks involved in such actions have every right to also mention, if asked, that yes, they consider themselves to be Rainbows. No reason not to fly your colors, especially when you're doing something you consider a good cause and are proud of being involved in. You just can't say that your event (protesting logging the rainforest, for example) is a Rainbow protest as such.
We have no leaders. We operate by consensus process. No one is in charge, we have no board of directors. For many regional events, a small circle of people often initiates the event, and the circle grows and becomes many. All the labor of getting the gathering together in a safe and healthy manner is done by volunteers.
The only rule we have is that of peaceful respect. That actually encompasses a lot, when you stop and think about it. Sure, no one can tell anyone else what to do, but if someone builds an unsafe fire under a tree, they will hear about it (hopefully in a sweet way) from many people who are worried about the safety of the camp. We like to say that everyone is Shanti Sena (Peacekeeper). The idea is to communicate in such a way that folks doing something non-peaceful, non-respectful, unhealthy, or unsafe will see the error of their ways and choose to get with the program. When something really out of line occurs (a violent individual hitting someone with a club, for example) a Shanti Sena council (consisting in the ideal of all interested parties, as well as some experienced folks from the Shanti Sena Clan to give guidance and physical safety) forms to deal with the issue. If the victim of the violence wishes to press charges, the incident is dealt with accordinly, and the Shanti Sena folks cooperate in turning the perpetrator over to local law enforcement - a controversial move, to be sure, but in some cases unavoidable and sometimes even desirable. If no one wants to see the local authorities involved but a person is considered a danger to the safety of folks in camp, two options are commonly turned to: someone capable of handling the situation volunteers to accompany the offending person 24 hours a day around camp; or the person must leave the gathering and not come back that year.
As per a standing consensus by the Rainbow Family Tribal Council, we don't apply for or sign permits. With the new group use regulations instituted by the Forest Service this year, this has become a difficult position to hold.One regional gathering signed a permit and gathered under a different name than Rainbow. Weird, and lot of people were angry at the folks who signed the permit,but what are ya gonna do? Take away their hippie cards? Anyway, theoretically,if a gathering has a permit, it is by definition not a Rainbow Gathering.
Also, by long tradition, we do not gather anywhere but public land. Occassionallythere may be focussed councils (Thanksgiving Council, regional councils) that happen on private land, but gatherings themselves are always held on public land. Again, if it happens otherwise, it is by definition not a Rainbow Gathering, though the event may be very rainbow in nature otherwise.
We take responsibility for every aspect of the gathering, from set-up to clean-up. We don't ask for help bulldozing roads, getting donations from local charities or food banks. We are self-sufficient in every aspect of our gathering, and responsible for ourselves. Most important, when the gathering is over, many people stay behind to totally clean up the site. No janitors are paid to clean up after folks. Gatherers are expected to use the recycling center set up on site and to pack out what they packed in. The clean up crew takes out all trash to recycling centers and to landfills, then restores and rehabilitates the site. This may involve scarifying the earth to loosen up compacted areas, filling in ruts caused by vehicles, water-barring hilly areas, and reseeding the ground. All shitters and camps are disappeared and naturalized. This is a lot of work folks! If you've never stayed for cleanup, you've never really done a gathering. This is not a dead lot - this is real, this is a labor of love, and it's one of the only reasons, both karmically and politically, that the powers that be haven't put the ax to us long ago.
A Rainbow Gathering is not a rock concert or a platform for speakers. If cars are allowed in the gathering area proper, and if there is amplified music as a central theme, it most certainly is NOT a Rainbow Gathering (the drive-in gathering in Texas was an exception, as we were not allowed to close the road).
If it were up to me to define it, I would say this is the most important aspect of the Gathering: It is a free assembly of individuals who come together to practice peace. The focal point of the Annual Gathering July 1-7 is a coming together in a large circle, each person praying silently in their own way for peace. Most of the regional gatherings also set aside a day for the Silent Circle. A Rainbow Gathering is not a party, although partying certainly happens. It is not just a big hippie campout, although there are lots of counter-culture and new-age types camping in the woods. It is not just the world's largest love-in/be-in/ smoke-in, although a lot of that certainly goes on. For me, without the element of prayer we might as well not gather at all. For me, without the element of the Circle in which we participate, we mights as well have a hippie convention at the Hilton. For me, without the practice of Peaceful Respect and continuing attempts to create harmonyamong each other and all beings of the Earth, me might as well give up any pretense that the human race is evolving.
So, does that make things more clear? You'll probably get as many different answers as you will people answering. Good luck sorting it all out. The annual Rainbow Gathering of the Tribes will take place in the Northwest next July - Oregon or Washington. Stay tuned for directions, which will probably come out about amonth before the gathering!

Use a bucket to take your bath 60 feet away from the water source. To be certain of drinking water: boil it! Use the slit trenches or covered latrines - cover your paper & waste with ashes or lime, wash hands. Break the fly/illness connection: shit-fly-food-you! Dig no shitters near water areas or kitchens. Protect our Health! Use your own cup, bowl & spoon! Wash them after eating and rinse in bleach-water. Visit C.A.L.M./M.A.S.H. if you feel ill - especially if you have a contagious disease - or are injured. Camp Together - Establish neighborhoods. Community Fires only! ~ Each with 5 gallon water bucket and shovel for Fire Protection. If you are the last to leave a fire PUT IT OUT! Watch your gear: Be Responsible ~ "Tempt Not Lest Ye Be Lifted From." Pets are discouraged but if you must bring them keep them fed, on a leash and out of the kitchens, springs & fights. Clean up their poop. Love them. PACK IT IN - PACK IT OUT !!! Cleanup begins when you arrive. Bring in only what is necessary. There is no janitor here...you are the cleanup crew. Separate Garbage for recycling. Don't litter - Find collection point. Compost in pits only. You are the Gathering! Participate in Shanti Sena, the peace keepers council, and all activities, councils, work crews, workshops. Volunteer wherever needed: kitchens, welcome home, firewatch, parking lot, shitter digging, supply, front gate, etc. R-E-S-P-E-C-T your Sisters & Brothers energies. Keep the Balance: Earth, Sky, Trees, Water & People! Alcohol is Discouraged, Guns are Inappropriate, Violence is contrary to the Spirit. Please take no photographs or videos of people without permission. Discourage Drug Abuse. Buying and selling endangers our legal right to be here. That sacred mountain calls to us to return once again. I have heard the call for a couple years now and can no longer ignore the urgency with which I feel drawn to the Ochoco Mountains. The universe has a way of confirming the unspoken messages that humanity receives. Today, the District Ranger Art from the Ochoco National Forest, told me that this place needs the rainbow rain dancing. Art wants us to come and rain dance in the Ochoco Forest because it desperately needs the rain. Art says his rain dancing is not working. What are we waiting for? I am praying for rain there even now. Spread the vibe.

May the prayers for peace on earth and among the children of men continue throughout the year. God knows how much prayer is needed for humanity every moment of our existence.

I really appreciate all that each one who gathers does to make these assemblies possible. Let all rainbow warriors continue to expand the circle of light.

Let the medicine wheel continue to expand until it embraces the entire earth. Come to Ochoco, ancient sacred land of willow this September, celebrate the solstice in sacred ceremony. Prepare for sacred lodge at the Four Corners in the spring, then on to Wyoming and Wounded Knee. Call a praying circle, call a sacred assembly in every state in every month of the year and in every country around this world. Surrender to the Spirit of the One Who is Love.

When you are all done in New Mexico and Colorado, and where ever you are going in between, come join us in the Ochoco National Forest next month for a memorial tribute and prayer assembly. The chosen gathering dates are September 11 till September 23rd....13 days....beginning on 9-11 with a memorial in our hearts for those who died in New York.and Pennsylvania...the 23rd hour love tour and in memorial of Elijah's birth in 1998, who has been in government captiviity since his eleventh day of life...and the sacred number 13 in the Mayan calendar. This is in honor of Shanti Sena Woodstock Luke Skywalker, Front Gate Luke, one of my dearest friends...and in honor and memory of my brother Joseph Greenfeather, all our loved ones who passed to the Spirit in the sky. May we all dance together.

although many people might be unfamiliar with the local barter fair scene... i just thought i'd throw out a bit of information for anyone who would like to make an attempt to check it out.

i must say, although scotia rd is very small barter fair, it is in need of some love. anyone who is down to have a good time with some cool people should definitely check it out.

anyone in the spokane area... it's really close! and definitely worth the time.

May 4 – 6: Old Time Trade Circle at the Scotia Road site. Directions: from highway 2 between Diamond Lake WA and Newport WA, turn South on Scotia Rd. and keep going. After a stop sign, continue past a farm on the right which has many old cars and buses parked. The site is beyond on the left, look for the Old Time Trading Circle sign!

May 11 – 13: Olde Time Trade Circle at the Scotia Road site.

June 21 – 25: Llama Family Barter Faire at the Trailhead B&B in Trout Lake, WA. The Llama Tribe is organizing the second annual "Llama Family Reunion" in Trout Lake.

Healing, Training, Trading, Camping.

This coming Spring the Okanogan Family Faire willhost the second annual Volunteer Summit, a family gathering for all those who help make the Okanogan Family Barter Faire happen.

The Volunteer Summit willbe a free private event open to ALL Okanogan Family Faire Volunteers (past, present, and future).

Come participate in seminars and workshops covering everything from security and first aid to yoga and sufi dancing; from hacky sack and frisbee to circle songs and free music jams.

The Volunteer Summit will take place May 18, 19, and 20, 2007, with seminars, workshops, and events beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through Sunday evening.

This weekend will be as extraordinary as the Barter Faire itself, and will combine all the best ingredients of a BarterFaire, a Healing Gathering, and a Rainbow Family Gathering.

This is our big opportunity to play together, pray together, and grow together, as individuals and as a community.

Thank you all, last year was my first but definately not my last. I live in eugene and have been going to Oregon Country Faire for years and love both the environments, The thing I like about barter faire is that any1 can come and have a blast all weekend, at O.C.F. you must have a pass to stay all weekend and the public is let in from 11-7 or something. Whats this I hear about the barter faire in spring, I would love to go.
