Yesterday at Road Rider in San Jose, I picked up a Gerbing jacket liner with thermostat at cost plus 15 percent. (What a neat sale!)
Without a doubt, this heated jacket is the best investment I've made in terms of riding gear in the past year. Don't know though if it'll fit under my leather jacket. Probably it'll be a little snug. But under my 'Stich jacket, it's just about perfect!
And last night, I had to slab for almost two hours. It was so cold (chill windex was probably somewhere in the teens) that I had to put the thermostat on the solid red (highest heat setting).

Re: Riding when it's c-c-cold!
Sun, January 4, 2009 - 3:29 PMnice score! For me, though... it's my hands that get ccccold riding in weather like this. Just crossing town, sat AM my hands were numb... time for the glove liners.
Anyone here ever use heated grips? -

I've used heated grips on two of my motorcycles. These were the fairly inexpensive types that slip under the handlebar grips. They work quite well and were certainly worth the money. Additionally, if you can attach brush guards to your grips, it keeps the frosty, moving air off from your hands.

Re: Riding when it's c-c-cold!
Sun, April 12, 2009 - 7:57 PMthe reason your hands get cold faster is because they are on the extremities of your body. when it's really cold, your body concentrates the blood flow closer to your torso to prevent vital organ failure. thus, your hands and feet don't have as much blood flowing to them. if you keep your torso warm then your blood stays evenly distributed. it's an immediate fix to warm the grips - and certainly every bit helps. but an electric vest or even just an extra layer will help a lot to keep your hands warm. that and off-road wind deflectors for your grips.
i have a widder electric vest and arm chaps (not full sleeves like the gerbing) and ride year round. to be honest, it's a little to big for me so it doesn't work as effectively as it should. i'm a M or L and the vest is an XL. if anyone's interested hit me up and let's talk.

Re: Riding when it's c-c-cold!
Tue, January 6, 2009 - 7:34 AMHmmmmm.. my Breva is a 750. Are there any Guzzi wizards out there that might be able to give inputs as to whether or not a 2007 Breva 750 can handle heated gear and where would you hook it up since there is no auxiliary plug on the bike? -

Re: Riding when it's c-c-cold!
Mon, February 16, 2009 - 9:50 PMI would assume that a Breva 750 has the standard Bosch alternator unit in the front of the engine that all post Eldorado Guzzi's have. It is overpowered, if anything. They are great charging systems. Some people think Guzzi's have a poor charging/electrical system, but this myth is based on one alternator used in the 80's and the generators on the old eldo's and ambo's. Long story short, you are good to go if you want to hook up a heated vest.
Now, don't get me started about heated vests because I think they cause cancer... ;)

Re: Riding when it's c-c-cold!
Sun, April 12, 2009 - 7:58 PMit isn't the battery that powers it, but the alternator. find out how many amps your alt runs and decide from there.
