Which do you find better for distance driving, at times in cold weather?
I have access to a Honda VT1100c, 1995 I believe, and a late model gsxr 1100. I'll be traveling ~400 miles in cold weather. The Honda has plenty of power, but with no windscreen you get beat pretty bad at high speeds. On the gsxr you don't get so beat up, but the seating position is less comfey. Which would you take, and why?

the GSXR will be hell on your wrists
I have a friend who added bar risers to his Kawasaki ZX14 and took it from CA to CO and back, said it was quite nice. but I think a windscreen for your cruiser is your best bet. -

Sun, December 21, 2008 - 11:43 PMGet a tank bag, there will not be any wrist or fatigue problems. I have put over 90,000 on a 600 ninja, and been to every state in the nation (except alaska and Hawaii) on a sport bike. With a tank bag you can just lay down, put your head on top of bag and relax, with no strain. Much better then my suzuki intruder cruiser, or enduro, or 305 dream, or bagless zx 10.... .... cruizers beat your spine to pulp, and the wind sucks, and they don't corner and.... also the gsxr is 10000000000000000 x a better motorcycle in every way......

Sun, December 21, 2008 - 11:48 PMoh and um not to be um um um well do you have the experience to ride a gsxr 1100? SERIOUS motorcycle, would not want to here you did not return home.... Have you ever ridden anything like this before? Liter sport bikes can get you into SERIOUS trouble faster then you can believe.... -

Mon, December 22, 2008 - 4:38 AMI was thinking the gsxr was best as well. I've made this particular trip many times but never in sub freezing temps and possible snow, mostly on a Dyna Wideglide. I'll look into the tank bag and windshield options.

So true. Got a ticket 115 in a 55 zone on that thing. It was just chugging along and not a bit squirly. If I had the nuts I could have left the cops in the dust, actually did for a couple minutes, but the bike isn't mine and if they had gotten the plate my friend would have been in a world of trouble so I stopped and faced the music. It was some harsh music. -

Re: Cruzer vs Crotch rocket
Sat, January 3, 2009 - 11:11 PMIf your regular ride was a Dyna with a Wide Glide front end... I'd give the Honda the nod. Unless you're not doing all 400 miles in a day... the seating position on the Honda is just more comfortable.
I own sportbikes, cruisers, dirtbikes and a roadracer... I love them all.
For the longer trips (SoCal and back), I'll ride my cruiser... anything else and I arrive beat and tired... -
