Roycroft - Elbert Hubbard

public - created 11/24/04
This tribe is created to bring to light the works of an author/philosopher, Elbert Hubburd who as all but disappeared from our cultural consciousness. He formed a small cooperative community called Roycroft in East Aurora, New York. Along with Morris and Stickley , the Roycofters spearheaded the Arts & Crafts Movement at the turn of the century, and for this they are well known . The literary works of Elbert Hubberd and his associates, which span from 1895-1912 however are not so well known. With courage and the Wit of Mark Twain, he confronts what he calls the ?three evils of society; Religion, Education, and Government, with a clarity and simplicity that on seldom finds in the literary world. This would explain why the powers that be, relegated him to the attic trunks of nation?s libraries, I will endeavor to post some of his short essays and provide links to the longer ones. Any comments are gratefully appreciated
