I have to share the fun activities in my classroom of late. I can't take credit for this idea, but here goes: When we are learning about mixing colors I put out and old blender in front of the classroom and let the kids take turns deciding which primary colors we will put in there. I press the blend button and Presto blue and yellow becomes green! The kids get so excited. I go around and pour out the colors so they can experiment with the new secondary colors.

Re: Teaching the Primary Colors
Mon, February 12, 2007 - 4:47 AMI have preschool through 5th grade. I often refer to art lessons that I teach as "magic tricks." Another example would be my "magic crayons" which are white oil pastels. I will draw something with them (on white paper) and show thw kids my invisible drawing. Then I will paint over it with watercolors and the kids are in awe with their jaws dropped "how did you do that?!" A great magician never reveals his secrets! But then I let them do it too. It is especially a great activity to do in the winter when its snowing for winter snowscapes.
