Please share a story about a creative experience you had as a child or an adult artist. It could be something really memorable you did as a child or something you did a few days ago.

Re: Lets share an Experience
Mon, February 5, 2007 - 7:52 PMOkay. I have so many I have been trying to figure out something to share so I will just share something random. I think the most critical moment in my art career is similar to my most critical moment in my dancin career. It was the moment that my older friend in High School taught me how to draw. I never knew there was such a thing as technique before then. He taught me that not only is there technique, but you have to practice to be good. Much like Rachel Brice tells everyon with belly dancing. Practice, practice, practice! The secret to being good at something is that there is no secret. If you truly love doing something, the more you do it the more skilled you will be. I think this is an important message for our students and children. -

Re: Lets share an Experience
Wed, February 7, 2007 - 6:16 AMI believe that's true, "The secret to being good at something is that there is no secret... " and you have to love it. Well, at least for me. I am not an elementary art school teacher but am planning on homeschooling Solomon with a group of homeschoolers at least for the first few years of his school career. I will be the art teacher among other things.
Practice has always proven to me that I can accomplish much more than what I thought. Having fun and letting go often helps with art. I used to compare myself to other artists and say 'they are so much better." Over time I realized that art was about self expression for me. It was and is healing. That became the purpose.
This really happened when I just let go out of anger and took it out on the canvas. It's outcome was my best ever. My best art has come from a raw emotion.
