Re: Great American Yurts
Fri, September 8, 2006 - 9:10 AMAny one want details on this order, give me a call will be happy to give the 411 on it. EVERY email and phone call was answered with in 48 hours and we have the paper trail to prove it.
As for what he wrote. Bent rafters, ANYONE that knows yurts know that a few rafters might bend, They are WOOD under PRESSURE. IF the yurt is NOT SETUP RIGHT, , then it can cause uneven pressure causing rafters to warp. This is why NO yurt company warranties against warping wood. IF setup wrong, wood warps.
Wall overlap, this is a design we had, made a very strong joint, screw the 2 halfs together and you are done, WE change the design on the yurts, we changed our design to make it where the walls joined together, Neither is right or wrong, but most customers liked the join better, this is now standard for us, where the over lap use to be. NO defect just change in design. We sent him detailed plans on how to change it. 4 small cuts with hand saw and done. Left the choice up to him.
Top flap leaks, not sure about this, he is the only one who has contacted us in forever about this. Soft domes are seam sealed at factory, so not sure how it could leak. Unless he has it upside down.
Door not finished, daaaaaaaaaaa , its primed so the customer can pick what finished color they wish for their door. He is the ONLY customer that has said boo about this, everyone else loves the fact they can pick their door color.
What this guy is not telling you is that he sent me an email BEFORE posting this tell us that he would be gone all summer. NOW , even tho the parts he is asking for were not covered under the warranty, he acted as a friend and I thought yea, not warrantied, but help the guy out. Its only a few rafters and some more seam sealer. NO big deal. They were made and had been sitting on the shelf, UNTIL HE got back at the end of summer. AT NO CHARGE. Then he emails me few weeks ago, yelling about his parts. IF I had sent them, they would have just been returned to me. THEN he would have had to pay for the shipping. We have done everything for this guy and all this is because we decided NOT to give him a free yurt. -

An Update From Lynn: Feb 07
Mon, February 12, 2007 - 10:20 AMYes other mfgrs DO WARRANTY THEIR RAFTERS and workmanship. ASK. Want to see our Yurt GOOGLE. "How To Yurt" There is always more to any story. Get informed on your own. We love our Yurt now that we've fixed our issues on our own and made some alterations and interior work. The mfgr did send replacement rafters and soft top. Not our address. We wanted a Hard Dome. No response. Anyone have one that will fit. Reasonable? Other Ideas. Go round, green, alternative. Safety is NO ACCIDENT! -

Indianapolis Company that Sold Tent-Like Structures Agrees to Refund Consumers
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Attorney General Steve Carter announced today that an Indianapolis Company, Great Americans Yurts, LLC, will satisfy contracts and issue refunds to customers who purchased yurts from the company’s website. A yurt is a domed, tent-like dwelling that sits on a platform and can be used as temporary or permanent shelter.
“Anytime a company agrees to make good on their transactions, consumers are better off,” said Attorney General Steve Carter.
Last year, the state filed a lawsuit against Great American Yurts alleging that the company failed to deliver the products at all, failed to deliver the products in a timely fashion, and failed to deliver the consumers complete order.
Under the consent judgment, the company is prohibited from misrepresenting its products and misrepresenting when it can deliver its products. It is also required to promptly resolve any future consumer complaints filed with the attorney general.
Following the lawsuit, the company paid $5,500 to two out-of-state consumers as well as costs.

Re: An Update on Great American Yurt Co.LLC
Fri, November 23, 2007 - 3:29 PMOnce again, this person one doesn't know what he is talking about and two well lets say he is being less than truthful.
YES I was the owner of what was "Great American YURTS, LLC", YES we did have a bad report with the BBB. ( As said in many posts you could have called I would have GLADLY given our side of the story). IN 18 years and hundrends of yurts we had 18 complaints, out of those 18 ONLY 3 where proper ones. Any that wants to hear our side of the story, simply call, happy to answer any and all questions.
BUT THERE IS A PROBLEM EVEN WITH THIS >>>>>>>>> "YURTS OF AMERICA" IS NOT "GREAT AMERICAN YURTS,LLC" I sold control of the only company to someone else and I draw only a pay check just like anyone else that works there.
Yurts of America and the new owner is doing great job at building yurts, All yurts have gotten out on time, with great quailty. The only thing going on is a small back order in harddomes do to a back order from the supplier.
THIS PERSON, is under investagation for his actions and legal action are being taken against him.
The truth is, HE set up this yurt wrong, fact is now get this, he setup the frame upside down and then tried to claim it was built wrong. I have the photos he sent to us to prove it. (anyone wants them happy to email them to you) and we have emails saying how great our yurt was, until he asked for a free yurt and we said NO, then he started posting all this stuff about GREAT AMERICAN YURTS.
The BBB knows about the new name, the sale of the company and the new Controlling owner. He had a sit down meeting with them, and they are watching.
The new owner put into place a call center where you can call with problems even on weekend.
NEW yurt sales are called at 3 month, 6 months and one year and every year after that for information on how the yurt is doing.
Broken/missing or damaged parts are sent out ASAP. (soon as they are built and packed).
I ASK anyone who reads these posts to remember I no longer control the company, GREAT AMERICAN YURT, LLC has been sold and Corp has been desolved. The new guy is doing a great job, and putting out a great yurt.
This guy didn't get what he wanted from GREAT AMERICAN YURT, LLC and is facing legal actions as we speak. I know of 2 other filing on him also. This guy has gone to every place he can find and post against us, all because we didn't give him a free yurt.
IF you really want to know the whole truth I will be happy to send you all the emails and docs, I kept them in the old file.

Re: An Update on Great American Yurt Co.LLC
Fri, March 20, 2009 - 7:22 AMHi Folks. Another update on Great American Yurts. Reply to Ken Below. Well no legal problems here. No one ever contacted me despite the threats from Ken the I was being taken to court. During this time I have met two other pesons who bought GAY Yurts. They also had many problems. Nissing parts mostly. I even helped set up one in CA. As for the FREE YURT he spoke of.... Nothing is free. We were going to trade work so a Wildlfe Center in Mississippi could get a Yurt for their Hosptal... So there was never any discussion about getting anything FREE. Be wise and safe.... Make good choices!!!!

Re: Great American Yurts
Mon, November 26, 2007 - 2:54 PMAnd whatever your favorite yurt maker, tell them about bjurts (bjurt.com)!
While my products aren't really complete enough for the typical end-user, they represent a real opportunity for yurt makers to simplify their products, saving labor costs and minimizing mistakes.
And while it's not on my website yet, I have a sixteen-spoke ring sitting next to me that would make an awesome yurt roof, and it's made out of stainless steel! God, I love stainless steel.
And for the truly visionary yurt maker, make bjurts instead. They are way easier to set up. I just can't cover them very well, so there's a real opportunity for someone who can.
...bjut I digress...
Cheers,

Tue, November 27, 2007 - 12:29 PMAnd Bender has a heart of gold. He's donated to help the folks up at the Madre Grande monastery and retreat in association with Burners Without Borders in LA. He's the real deal.
