Stash Sorting...madness or method?

Okay. You have a stash. If you are me, your stash is large, in a deeply unseemly, yet luxurious way. How do you reorganize it for best use?

By COLOR? since it is in translucent plastic tubs....
By FIBER? but I use mostly cottons....
By WEIGHT or TYPE? so the lace weight is easy to find...

or WHAT? Right now, I think I have some combination of the above, but our house redo means that for the first time EVAR all my yarn is in the basement at the same time. Be very afraid. I am! (and I am also investing in the jumbo Royal skein winder, OH yeah!)

anyone else a fan of yarn porn?? haha yes it exists! i laughed hysterically when i discovered the term in a stitch dictionary, and i laughed harder when i discovered what it means: high quality, close-up photographs of luxurious hand-painted yarns!! they spell it yarn pron so that people looking for the real thing won't wind up on a knitting site, frustrated and confused!! Does anyone else think it makes complete sense to drool over photographs of expensive yarn??

How in the hell do you use them for making hats?? *Excuse the language, but i'm at wit's end w/this*

I have a pattern that requires you to use Size 11 circular needles then transfer to Size 10 dpn's. All this is American measures for needles...I haven't got any idea on metrics...leave that to chemist hubby.

Help??? I'm totally confused!

if any of you are going to folsom fair,
please feel free to email me in advance
(so we might try to connect)
easier said than done ( in a sea of people ,and with limited time)

which is why I am trying to find somewhere to stay,
then will have more time
to actually hang out
and get to know folks and the city
(all up in the air /will depend on if I have a place to stay)

regardless

(if only a quick hello )
would me nice to see some of your fuzzy faces

just cannot promise we will not get lost /distracted
and miss each other on that day
(as a lot to pack into one day)
but if possible would love to touch base
and if things work out well(accomadation wise)
would love to connect in a relaxed way and actually
get to see some of your knitting ,outside of the wild flurry that folsom is,
a few days later
(which would be so much more civilized)
tea, knitting needles, chat....ahhhhhh

oh, does anyone know what street the folsom fair runs from and to(intersects)and along ,.is the street or the area called "folsom"
(as want to print out mapquest map to give me idea of where things are

as a naughty knitter (kinky and into crafts)

*and as some of the projects I wanted to knit would be considered by traditional knitting groups "odd"

was thrilled to discover your group

*unfortunately I live a few hundred miles away

though I may have friends coming down for Folsom (fair)
and they have offered me a lift (part way)
will be making my own way back
(we are still trying to work out timing on that)

I would REALLY like to stay a few days
(just really bad timing budget wise)
and then I would not have to pop out of town
the next day
[but actually have time to meet folks
in a casual way,
and explore the city,
would love to attend some social get-together (definitely would love to meet your group), munches, art shows,
maybe the odd kinky event..and then would be so thrilled to attend the burlesque thing that will be happening near that date]

*VERY much want to attend a burlesque convention that happens the following weekend
[just do not want to get stuck for somewhere to stay and cannot book travel till I can do that../ and expensive trip just for one day
(can buy a pass for the convention before I head down there)the burlesque festival is the weekend after Folsom (first weekend in October)
and I do have someone I could stay with for a couple of days in San Fransisco,(who I was looking forward to meeting)but did not want to impose longer than a couple of days....
might anyone be able to offer me a place to stay
( as would mean the difference between spending two -three days traveling each way (bus/train and car)for ONLY one day in town OR getting to actually explore the city, meet interesting people, attend wonderful functions,be inspired by creative people and art exhibits, and get a feel for the fetish scene there, possible make connection (friends/maybe future playmates) when I am more flush
[bad timing on this trip budget wise(just had dental work done,ouch/thus the tight budget) BUT still wanted to come down for creative reasons ,for inspiration and to meet inspiring and interesting people ,also would be wonderful to put faces to folks I have only seen post online..make new friends)maybe with the right chemistry meet playmate worth coming back to see and attend events with.

really hope I can stay the extra days(again depends if any one is kind enough to offer me somewhere to stay)

oh, and can any of you (again I can only go see them if I can stay somewhere,as will not have time in one day to check them out)if any of you can recommend any upcoming arts or craft exhibits, and what yarn stores do you recommend (as I can always have them ship me things when I get home ,so still worth checking out where I am in town)

Naughty Knitters Gathering in San Francisco

I'm starting a group that will meet at the Citadel dungeon space every third Wednesday from 7-9. Now, it is being open to people doing hand crafts like needlepoint, chain mail, etc but my original intent was to meet and learn from other kinky knitters so I hope a lot of you will join us:

Are you a knitter or crocheter? Are you kinky or perverted? If the answer to both of these is yes, then we have the event for you!

On Wednesday, January 24th at the SF Citadel from 7 to 9 pm, come join in for the first Naughty Knitters get together.

The goal is to have a regular knitting/crochet circle where you can come, work on your projects, get the occasional advice from other knitters, while hanging out with like-minded kinky people.

The cost is $5 per person and everyone is invited to bring some sort of finger food or snacks that we can pass around and share.

I'm excited to see everyone there! Thanks for those who have offered to share their expertise.
Straight Male Knitter

Sometimes I feel like the only Straight Male Knitter in San Francisco...

When I knit on the bus, people always stare and it makes me feel like a devient (I don't know if that's a bad thing). I guess that's the perversion.

Hi everyone,

I finally got some needles and yarn and began learning to knit this week. My ex Mistress loves knitting, and got me hooked on it. There's a nice little yarn shop on Tujunga ave in Studio City that she spied one afternoon when we visited Aroma Cafe so I started wandering in after we broke up. At first I was thinking of buying something that she would like as a gift so that maybe we could get back together. That's probably not a good idea. Meanwhile I got to know the people who owned the store and it became a favorite place to hang out. The owner started asking me when I was going to start knitting. "Are you going to knit today?" Well this week I finally said yes. I picked out some debbie bliss alpaca silk and some #10 bamboo needles, learned how to cast on and started practicing on a ball of "pink" yarn that Tiffany gave me. I can't tell you how many times I've cast on and ripped out just two or three rows because I've done something screwy. Monday night after a simple lesson I went home and practiced through two movies. Didn't see much of the movies. Finally called it a night and had the best sleep ever. Who knew?

Ok its lunch time. Time to knit a few rows.

enjoy

if any of you can help, I'd really really appreciate it!

I got some really great new yarn and I'm dying to make a scarf, but I want it to be a really loose stitch and regular knit/purl ain't cutting it. Even using size 17 needles. My friend made a scarf with the exact stitch I want, but she just got back into the country last night from a trip and she's too jet-lagged to detail it to me.

Any help?
