Overview/History of Channeling and Disinformation

I came across this excellent post on in reagrds to crticially examining any channeled material. Having weeded through this maze of channeled material myself over the past years, I can only agree that the Seth, the Ra material, the Cassiopean Transmissions and the early Pleiadian channeling (Barbara Marciniaks's "Bringers of the Dawn") are by far the best credible sources out there before channeling became a new age hype with all kinds of disinfo/garbage attached.

"Remember, there is much disinformation to weed through."
- The Cassiopaeans, Session 950924

Q: (L) Is there anything further you can tell us about this?
A: Time to read [source].
Q: (L) But didn't you tell us that [source] was a disinformation artist?
A: Yes, but can you weed?
- The Cassiopaeans, Session 960609

This is the first in what I hope will be a series of articles that take a look at some of the channeled messages that are now being posted regularly on the internet, and what appear to be techniques of disinformation used in them. Before getting into it, the following overview will help reveal my perspective and set some context.

There are certainly lots of channels pumping out material in books and on the internet now. Since the "modern era" of channeled literature began in earnest with Jane Roberts' Seth books in the early 1970s, channeled literature has proliferated wildly. Why would nonphysical entities go to the trouble of communicating to/through channels? A common thread appears to be that the channels sought out such communication, asked for it and were answered. Those who asked were surely prompted by some need to ask or to seek. Seth regarded itself as a teacher, and revealed startling information about what it called "the nature of reality." It told us that we are multidimensional beings of immense power and creativity that could change our world, our shared reality, by shaping it actively. The PTB (Powers That Be -- the human oligarchy and their other-dimensional controllers) who run this planet certainly would find it to be a dangerous message that the people, and not they, have the true power. Why do they fear this message?

Q: (L) Do demons and evil spirits fear anything?
A: Yes.
Q: (L) Do they fear any power that we, as humans, possess?
A: Yes. Knowledge.
---
A: The truth shall set you free... as you are imprisoned!
---
A: Truth exposes lies for those who need to learn.

Casteneda wrote, "The predator's mind is baroque, contradictory, morose, filled with the fear of being discovered any minute now."

Signs of the Times research suggests that these PTB do all they can to program us for dependence upon leaders, whether they be political, religious, cultural, or whatever. Jane Roberts died in 1984, after less than twenty years of channeling work.

Q: (L) Who was Seth, channeled by Jane Roberts?
A: Higher plane earth spirit.
Q: (L) Were the teachings in the Seth material accurate and was that a good source?
A: Yes but rapidly becoming obsolete as you move toward new reality.

As its popularity spread, the Seth material was a phenomenon. It sparked a stampede, but not of the kind that immediately brought deeper, more progressive insights, as one might expect. Instead, by the early 1980s, a plethora of other channeled works had been published, many promoting much softer, lighter, highly watered-down versions of certain aspects of the Seth material, particularly, a simplified version of the "you create your own reality" concept. Some of it was substantial, but much of it was a kind of "everything's alright," feel-good mush that bore more resemblance to tepid self-help courses than to insightful, useful teachings. Like such tepid self-help courses and gimmicky diet books, they were very popular, but also, ultimately, quite disposable.

The basic messages of these works were variations on "the new age is here, it is now -- everything's going to be fine, your life is not real, it's really more like a dream for your soul, and the earth is a schoolroom. Just think of love and light all the time, beam it around, treat everyone nicely, and remember that you'll be going "home" soon enough. Was this any more of a recipe for changing the world than "tuning in, turning on, and dropping out?" Could it be that the spirits were really promoting nothing more than passivity? How does one learn lessons that way? The PTB loves nothing better a passive flock. Could they have been trying to "capture" truth seekers by making them believe that doing nothing, in essence, was okay? Could they have been attempting to limit the damage that truth-seekers might cause to their carefully crafted illusions by steering them into ineffective activities?

Followers of these channeled works (and their authors) went onspiritual retreats together, channels started charging by the hour for personal readings, armchair mystics hung out shingles as healers, manufacturers cranked out new-age crystals, more and more books and magazines were published. The New Age industry was born. It was a mishmash of terminologies, beliefs, and rituals, with many followers, some fervent, some passing. These sound like hallmarks of any modern, major religion.

Some of the channels were found to be perpetrating hoaxes, while others channeled only for money. Some of the healers were cons. Some of the "leaders" manipulated their followers into sycophantic flocks. Many of the seekers saw the self-serving nature of these "scandals" and turned away from the new age. Others who had been believers left the movement, perhaps throwing the baby out with the bath water. Among the cons, surely there were some ordinary charlatans, plain old STS folks, looking only to cash in on the craze. But how many were organized or directed, wittingly or not, to spread disinformation? This should be considered, especially in light of what we've learned about third and fourth-density mind-control techniques.

Michael Topper, in researching channeling, reasoned that the explosion of new material was the result of a need by people, finding ourselves in a confusing era of transition, for more information. He also reasoned that apparent conflicts in the verbal product of channeling had to do with both the perspective of understanding on the plane/realm/dimension from which the information emanated and the distortions suffered in the filtering down process, with the greatest twist being the filter of the channel's own beliefs, attitudes, knowledge, expectation, vocabulary, etc. Unfortunately, this idea that gleaning the truth from channeled material takes some sifting, some work, allows for broadly subjective interpretations. This means that there's an awful lot of room for the benefit of the doubt to creep into a reader's assessment of channeled works, especially if the readers are not critical thinkers. An early message of the new age seemed to encourage this subjectivity. That message was that seekers would be drawn naturally to sources that they "resonate" with. It almost sounds like an invitation for liars and cons to simply "turn on the charm" to gain followers.

The harshest critics of channeled literature were able to dismiss the phenomenon entirely by attacking its poorer examples and by pointing out conflicting teachings.

Among the clutter of spirit messages, a few vaguely portended that now was not in fact the new age, but that things were changing, almost imperceptibly, and that something big was definitely coming -- something important -- something that required actual work and spiritual preparation. Some common terms to describe this coming event, this all-encompassing change, the details of which are by no means agreed upon, are ascension, harvest. Distorted versions of the concept sometimes appear in Evangelical Christian doctrine as "rapture" or in completely non-spiritual terms as "Earth changes."

Almost as if in response to the confusing profusion of reassuring messages from kindly "space brothers" and "messengers from heaven, came something new and far more raw, from what claimed to be a truly higher source.

In the early 1980s, a new "level" appeared to be reached by a channel named Carla Rueckert, who contacted an entity called Ra, which purported to be of the "sixth density, suggesting that we of the third density had been hearing mainly communication from entities in fourth or fifth densities. A sixth-density entity was a "social memory complex, or the group soul of an entire civilization, with an enormous amount of experience and direct knowledge.

Starkly standing apart from other channeled entities that came off as warm and fuzzy or flowery, the rather humorless Ra answered fewer questions about feelings and more about science and reality, the origins of humanity, the structure of the known creation and the cycles within it, free will, what the meanings of STO and STS are, and that deciding between them is "the great choice". Ra explained that densities were essentially levels of conscious awareness of reality. Thus, achieving growth was all about acquiring knowledge of reality, not just thinking good thoughts about love and light. Ra spoke of hundreds of thousands of years of Earth history and civilizations, and of soul polarity: service to self and service to others, and that choosing service to others was a likelier way of "graduating" to fourth density, where polarization reaches such an extreme that STS and STO don't even perceive each other if they don't choose to.

Ra described an impending event called "the harvest", a regular, cyclical happening (prompted by the "movement" of our planet into another "realm" in which third-density entities who had learned all their lessons had the opportunity to "graduate" to fourth density, an existence that is still physical, but more ethereal, and in which mind rules over matter.

Shockingly, Ra also described a host of extraterrestrial races of both third and fourth density, and explained that the earth had long been under the control of fourth-density STS beings who seek forever to manipulate us with lies and illusions. STS humans program their earthly incarnation for health, wealth, power, and control. It is these people who are our 3D PTB. Making "the great choice" for STO polarity would put one in polar opposition to the STS PTB, a potentially dangerous situation.

Many channeled entities emphasize "sending love and light" into darkness. Ra explained why "sending love and light" where it is not asked for is an STS activity. For those polarized extremely toward STS, who believe in a loveless universe, the heart chakra is virtually shut. To them, a "beam of love" is an evil death ray deceptively labeled as love. A warm embrace is in no way appreciated.
Carla suffered almost constant psychic attack while channeling Ra, and her health suffered. She wrote about channeling itself, stating that Good higher contacts require balance, purity of intention, and freedom of any self-aggrandizing tendencies. She channeled Ra in a typical dissociative trance, but gave that up when the Ra questioner, Don Elkins died in 1984. She wrote, "Now, when I channel, I'm very careful not to go out of my body because, in the 80s, when I was channeling the material for the Law of One, The Ra Material, I went out of my body and it was difficult for me. It was dangerous and the Ra group themselves asked me not to do it without Don Elkins and Jim McCarty.

Read an introduction/summary of the Ra material here www.divinecosmos.com/index.php

Ra showed its influence on the channeling that followed, into the mid-90s, some of it taking on Ra's terminology, and much of it turning to this issue of an impending, all-changing event, like the one Ra called "the harvest.

SO, how have researchers of channeling come to judge a "good" and helpful source of information? In general, good sources don't give people lots of direct answers, but instead lead them to discover them, so as develop a person's thinking and learning abilities. Good channels also do not make predictions without stating that they are only possibilities with a degree of probability, and they certainly don't give calendar dates. They explain that this is because the future not set, not yet created, so, truly anything could happen. STS sources may seek to lure followers with calendar-date predictions, exploiting our STS belief that knowing such things gives us power.

In the mid 1990s, Laura Knight-Jadczyk, with the intent of contacting the highest source possible and avoiding the dissociation of mind and body required of trance, began chronicling communications from the Cassiopaeans, another sixth-density source, which escalated teaching to yet a new level. The C's material referenced Ra as good primer material and reinforced the importance of knowledge to a soul's growth and progress. The C's reinforced Ra's concepts of densities of consciousness, polarity, free will, the cyclical nature of our time, the fluidity of our future, and an impending opportunity for some of us to "graduate" to fourth density existence if we could gather enough knowledge, act upon it in an STO (service to others) way to "raise the frequency" of our consciousness.

The C's made clear that this was no simple matter (certainly nothing to do with "beaming love and light to the world ) and would be hard work. They described Earth as a third-density, STS (service-to-self-oriented) world effectively controlled by fourth-density STS entities who, working through human pawns, strove to maintain a state of confusion, fear, and conflict on Earth for the purpose of feeding off of the negative energy that results, and that all of the major institutions in our lives like government, religion, mass media, etc. were designed to subtly foment and promote this discordant state. The C's thoroughly warned of the deceitful nature of STS and their attempts to hide truth and stop the acquisition of knowledge that might enable truth-seekers to escape their control by discovering the nature of reality and moving beyond their grasp.

The C's described our planet as a veritable prison of lies and disinformation designed to keep humanity in the dark. They stated plainly, without sugar coating, that there was danger, that escape would be difficult, and that they could give clues to help us, but that every soul's journey of growth is about learning the lessons of reality, acquiring knowledge on its own. The nature of STO (service to others) was not to interfere directly in human endeavors.

Laura Knight-Jadczyk and her close associates did not simply take these communications as gospel, but worked to verify The C's clues, as far as could be, and developed working hypotheses for seeking truth and acquiring knowledge, always mindful of the possibility of distortions and misunderstanding the material. One of the key challenges was to pierce the veil of falsehood that shrouds virtually everyone from birth, and to avoid the traps set for those seeking truth.

The C's described STS as fantastically clever in their deceitful ways " that virtually every major institution, every "authority" in every field was infiltrated by STS or under STS control, presenting formidable barriers to those seeking truth. They warned that those who sought to reveal discovered truth would suffer not only the attacks of those directly contracted to hide the truth, plus psychic attacks from 4D STS, but also a backlash from humanity at large, who are perversely fond of the illusions given to them and actually seek to maintain them.

"Remember, there is much disinformation to weed through.
- The Cassiopaeans, Session 950924

Working from this perspective, it is reasonable to accept the hypothesis that the world of channeled literature, especially since it has become so popular, is littered, dominated even, by material subtly designed to deceive the reader, limit his understanding, put him on a fruitless path, or even turn him unwittingly to the service of STS. Well intentioned channelers, unaware of from where their information comes, might be unconscious instruments in an effort to "fence in" some of the more aware members of society.

In recent years, with ever more aggressive STS activity "heating up" all over the world, an explosion of channeling has emerged that parrots terminology and concepts introduced by Ra and The Cassiopaeans. Now, many channeled entities speak openly of machinations by "dark forces" that control Earth, an organized cabal of human oligarchs, etc., while making various references to densities, polarities, the law of free will, an "energy wave" headed for Earth, etc.

What techniques might be used to accomplish such a feat of deceit?
(1) Bait the seekers with broad strokes of truth that "resonate" with them, charm them, and establish a good feeling akin to trust.
(2) Reinforce the idea that readers are "special" for being able to recognize and understand these truths, subtly playing upon their egos.
(3) Having established trust and receptiveness, pepper the material with falsehoods that will be accepted along with the truths.
(4) Give ostensibly innocuous advice that actually serves to disempower.

Basic example: (1) Your world is changing, heading for a time of great physical and spiritual upheaval. Your leaders are lying to you. (2) You who know the truth are humanity's saving grace and will be safe through the hard times to come. (3) The forces of good are prevailing against evil and soon your world will be transformed into a paradise. (4) Don't involve yourself in the conflict and turmoil, but simply pour out your love and light upon the world to heal it.

These basic techniques may be varied and colored by a myriad of others.

So, weeding through the material of other channeled sources may help us gain perspective, sharpen discernment, and even gather knowledge. Perhaps some insight into what the STS PTB has in store for us may be gleaned, adding to our knowledge and protection.

  • To Keep It Super Simple.... (KISS).....
You, or rather your connection with God inside of you, are your best source of wisdom and daily guidance.
Yes, there are people and places and things that can and will help.
My experience? I can't do it alone. I do need other people and places that are proven to really, really work. I have to use a brain with both logic AND intuition. I have to ride a bicycle with two wheels; it's much more balanced!
Knowing that I know everything and have all the power and magick inside of me, right here, right now, has saved me TONS of money I could have spent on workshops, therapists, teachers, etc.
Caveat emptor, as they say, or "let the buyer beware (be aware)".
Another old saying? "Do Your Homework". If people researched the purchase of expensive teachers or workshops as they would buying a car, a house, or expensive electronic equipment, they may avoid scams.

You wonder why tradition lasts so long? Because it works.
Of course, as society evolves and changes, so do traditions. We no longer have "real" Christmas trees. Everybody I know switched to artificial trees long ago.

Still, there are things that last. Our desire and need for true friends and an intimate partner to share life, or at least passionate nights with. Our penchant for telling or enjoying stories, myths, or what we of today call "entertainment". The way that all the traditions link certain popular versions of God or Goddess with certain Seasons or times of year.
    • Everything has its time, feel the same with channeling, it is/was a form spirit used to help us see and understand there was more to life than just this physical body and life.
As we grow and learn, like any learning or growth, we begin to listen to the spirit within and trust no matter what.
As with all things discernment is needed, as with channeling, we were always told to test spirit in the channelings.
Ultimatly we must look within to hear the voice that will tell us what is truth and what is lies.
Linda is spot on, blessings xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
  • Read 'The Stargate Conspiracy'. for info as to the governmental manipulation of older channelled sources.

I agree that your own internal 'channel' is the only network you need to connect to... However some 'other' channels deliver amazing information... and in a sense they are you anyway.

My personal favourite is Bashar. www.bashar.org

After listening to well over 24 hours worth of messaging I can relay that I have yet to find a single utterance that is disagreeable and very few that are confusing.. I find much of the older channelled material to be disinformation..

But each to his own, of course.

    Discern away.
    • Thanks for the info Nick, i surpose i was lucky, my first real meditation group was with a lady who channeled her guide/higher self, what ever you wish to call it. we did a lot of soul retrievals in those days. She was a trance medium and her guide that spoke and taught us had amazingly knowing, gentle and in all cases truth. Spent 3 years with this group, and it definintly was what i needed at the start of my journey. Can only speak from this experience, as i have not been involved with others, as i said, seems we grow up and learn to get the answeres from within, for a great teacher is one who wishes the students to surpass him xx
Like anything, there are those of truth and those who seek other agendas.
there is much more info now for you young ones, especially here on the net, and it must be hard to sort the wheat out from the chaff, glad it was easier in the days of my questioning and seeking :)
Thanks for the web site Nick. xx
