Does anyone know of medicinal chemistry (drug discovery) openings in the SF Bay Area? I prefer working with small or start-up companies. Please PM if you have any leads.
Thank you,

Re: Medicinal Chemistry positions?
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 1:06 PMNo, I can do almost everything a PhD can do without the expense.
I have 7+ yrs industrial research experience in chemistry (cGMP, process R&D, medicinal chemistry (~5 yr)) with a BA Mathematics and a BS Chemistry. Medicinal chemistry is the best fit for me and my ADD, it is intellectually stimulating enough to hold my attention. Although I don't mind doing process R&D for short periods of time, long term development work is much to narrow focus, routine and repetitive for me to do well at. Besides the chemistry work I've done, I was also a high school teacher, optics researcher and data analyst.
I have a strong synthetic organic chemistry background, highly skilled with HPLC (RP, NP, chiral, prep and analytical), NMR, GC and MS. I have also used a wide variety of synthetic techniques including: Suki, Sonagashira and Kumada couplings, heterocylic chemistry and chiral synthesis. I've proposed and developed SAR both based on X-Ray structures and PK/PD data. In the case of my IL-12 work, the SAR that I proposed and pursued resulted in meeting the projects first Go-No-Go objects.
My last position was as a research scientist II in Generics R&D. Unfortunately, this did not working out. I was recruited for a process research position but the position became one of late stage process development which, as I said above, was a problem due to my ADD. I’ve found that the complex and highly novel nature of medicinal chemistry is a very well suited to my abilities and temperament. I also do well in environments where I will need to preform a variety of non-routine tasks, which is a common need in small companies.
I'm currently in transit from Albany NY to Portland OR. Portland is a temporary stop (I've family there) while I look for work in the SF Bay Area. I would be very please to be able to go to the Bay Area directly. Although relocation assistance would be nice, it is not required.
If you PM your email address, I would be happy to send you a copy of my current resume and research summary.
