Hey friends! It's xjordanary here with some free fresh new jams for your eager ears! I feel it's high time to quit being such a perfectionist hoarder of the music I create, and give as much back to all my beautiful friends and family as I can. This is the culmination of the last few creative months in one 34 minute mix of all original tunes composed by yours truly.
I hope you all enjoy, and have a hot n sunny fun summer!

Seeking a Home to Love

I very much would like to find a home that I can love, a home that is mellow yet fun. I could go for either a studio/1 Bed or a room in a house. When I come home from work I like to relax, cook a yummy meal, and chill out. I want a space that I can practice yoga, garden, cook, and laugh in. I'm a massage therapist, yoga and Pilates instructor. I love open communication and a balance between being outward and inward. My goal is to bike for most of my transportation so I'm looking to live on the East side, not further than 50th. I have a great cat named Bean. He likes being outside but comes in to eat and snuggle.

Musts:
Close-in, not further than 50th
washer and dryer on site
Housemates that practice good communication when needed and have fun in their lives.
a house that has space for me and my simple things.
a safe place for my cat
little to no TV
eco-conscious living
love
compassion

Would be nice:
gas stove
big kitchen
hardwoods
big bedroom
large closet
colorfulness
creativity

Please email me if you think we could be a good match!

Hello,
I'm a nice Jewish girl, good company, none smoker, heading up to the Village Building Convergence. I'm easy to get along with, I can also pitch in on gas----10 or 15 dollars? Not sure exactly how much it costs.

Thanks a lot!

Portland work party

I'm hosting a work-party Saturday in Portland. Or Even tomorrow if enough people reply. I live just past Sauvie Island on Hwy. 30. I have a hundred bucks for a keg and buttloads of BBQ. It's all yard shit that you can do while geting fucked up. Grand Prize is the outbuilding art-studio which someone gets to live in till I sell the place in June or July. I'm going to post on a couple of other tribes but people are usually lame even if they say they'll show. The idea is as follows:

Pull about 50 sticker vines, Mow the yard, fill-in the gopher holes, and then make a bonfire and get wasted. You can contact me through Tribe or call me at 503-621-9791. The more people that come the better. It's going to be warm, you can bring your dog and camp in the back yard by the fire.

I also got a new .22 target pistol. We can't shoot it in back, but down at the end of the other side of the neighborhood we can shoot cans under the railroad trestle and it's no big deal. I'm going to buy a thousand rounds.

BEER, BBQ AND BULLETS. What more can I offer? Oh, and a free place to crash for a couple of months.....and some other stuff to whoever wants them. Last lucky fellow got two turntables, a mixer and three lasers.

Let me know people.

3. Moving Through Transitions: For People & Organizations
Workshop with Tree Bressen

Saturday, April 12, 2008
10am-5pm
Portland State University
Neuberger 391
http://treegroup.info/workshops/D12-transitions.html

This workshop is being designed specifically to address the needs of students enrolled in the Leadership for Ecology, Culture and Learning (LECL) program at PSU. However, members of the public are also welcome and encouraged to attend.

Creating Continuity of Vision, Values & Culture: How do we maintain a sense of community that is intergenerational, especially as organizations (e.g LECL & PSU) change around us?

Resolving Conflicts during Times of Transition:
Whether facing graduation, choosing a dissertation topic, or the many other transitions we encounter as we go through life, how do we honor different voices and find a path forward? We'll address the uncertainties of hearing multiple viewpoints inside ourselves as well as the challenges of facing others (e.g. friends, family, administrators, bosses) who are sometimes uncomfortable with our desires, and all the feelings this may bring up (hope, grief, celebration, anxiety, ambivalence, etc.).

Registration: Pre-registration is required. Due to space restrictions, this is a limited enrollment workshop. Please RSVP to Bob Hatton, via email: Bobhat262 [at] yahoo.com.

Food: Muffins and hot beverages will be provided in the morning. Participants should plan on providing their own lunch. Nearby eateries are accessible. Kitchen facilities will not be available.

Fees: Tree's work is offered on a gift economy basis. She asks participants to pay an amount that feels good and right and fair to you, that you can afford, and that you can give joyfully.

Presenter: Tree Bressen consults with a wide variety of organizations on how to have meetings that are lively, productive, and connecting. Intentional communities--groups whose members have to deal with each other every day--have provided her with a living crucible for learning and refining these skills. Tree's work is founded on a desire to help groups put their ideals into action. Her workshops have consistently been reviewed as lively, practical, and informative. Her website www.treegroup.info offers extensive free articles and resources.

2nd Cultural Evolution Study Group Meeting

Howdy,

Our first Cultural Evolutionaries Meeting was a success. Our second one will be held Thurs, April 17th at 6:30 pm in Beaverton. The group is still open to new members, so if you're at all curious, give teryani AT welcomehome DOT org a holler. She's the one taking RSVP's, questions, et al.

We're hoping to develop this into a steady, committed group where we can go deep and have lots of fun while seeking repeatable ways to shift our culture--both within and without--to one in which all of Gaia can thrive.

When: Thurs. April 17th, 6:30 pm
Where: Directions given upon RSVP
What to Bring: Your creativity, daring, and curiosity. The themes are dependent on who shows up and what they want to focus on. If those attending want to bring some vegetarian food to share that would be alright too.

Some of the suggested topics include:

--What is working in the culture today; what is not working?
--How can we create a culture that is free from violence?
--How can we create a world--both within and and outside of ourselves--where we not only cope, but thrive? And where the greater (non-human) community also can thrive?
--What relationship does our inner world have to our outer world, and how can we influence one with the other in practical ways?
--Is there such a thing as social synergy? How do we cultivate our relationships (to self, others, community, Community, and Gaia) in healthy ways? How can we, as social beings, create group synergy where the whole is far more than the sum of the parts? Is this important? If so, why?
--Is wilderness and connection to the land vital for ecological peace? Is ecological peace tied up with personal and social (human) peace? How does "sense of place" affect our ability to be at peace? The world's ability?

Please remember, this is not just a discussion group. We'll be dynamically exploring these and whatever other issues you bring to the table--exploring, experimenting, and experiencing. Please have some desire to play.

Last meeting we used techniques from the Theater of the Oppressed to explore. Next meeting...?

Please RSVP to let us know you are coming. And if you end up unable to make it, drop us a line as well. We'll be starting on time.

eriol

"...to defend and conserve oneself as a human being in the fullest, truest sense, one must defend and conserve many others and much else. What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dis-membered society, or personally healthy in a land scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government, or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV?" Wendell Berry

Calling All Cultural Evolutionaries

You are invited to participate in a potentially radical, transformational, exciting and fun experiment in social sustainability.

This is intended to be a research-oriented, experimental and experiential group on (re-)creating social sustainability. The “subjects” of the experiments will be ourselves, and, starting from the premise that we are all products of our culture(s), we’ll be exploring the culture within and without us, complete with taboos and shadows.

**The devastation of the outer environment and the devastation of the inner environment
are two sides of the same overall illness that can only be overcome by looking at both
sides together.**

Influences on our explorations will come from sources such as Deep Ecology, Quantum Physics/Chaos Theory, Systems Theory, Re-wilding/Wilderness Awareness, Permaculture, “Quantum” Psychology, and, at least in the beginning, some of the social exploration undertaken by the communities of ZEGG (zegg.de) and Tamera (tamera.org). This is not a group that “knows”, but rather one willing to play and discover. Everyone’s ideas, skills, facilitation and leadership (along these themes) will be welcome.

**If the parameters in a complex life-system can be adjusted, then the opportunity arises for a change within the whole system**

This invitation is for folks dedicated to social change on all levels, including (but not limited to) folks in the permaculture, intentional community, and re-wilding communities of Portland. Please note, this is not a theory-only group—please have some sense of adventure in regards to exploring yourself—we’ll be taking a deep look at our taboos, both personal and social. If you have any questions, please email teryani AT welcomehome DOT org.

First meeting will be Thursday, April 3rd in NW Portland. There is no charge for this study group, but please RSVP. Location TBA when you RSVP. More information will be available on the web soon.

beautiful 200 to 250 square foot spaces available.
Each space is unique, with gorgeous windows, a
balcony, and garden views.

We want to share this unique and wonderful place with
people who are creative and dedicated to promoting
There is also a fire pit and another more intimate

As you can see, this monthly update is packed with new information and numerous community events. And, as we breathe in the abundance of this time of growth—an invitation to let that abundance flow....

TLC Farm's Spring Open House & Tour
Sunday April 6th, 2-4 pm

Everything is growing at TLC Farm and we want to share it with you! While the farm is open to drop-in visitors every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we're providing a set time each month for an in-depth guided tour to get your questions answered and meet core TLC Farm volunteers and board members.

This Open House kick-offs of our First Sunday Tours, which will take place every first Sunday of the month for the rest of the year. If you can't make it on April 6th, please come on May 4th.

Got five bucks?
We all know that TLC Farm is a community effort, but do you know that it really does make a difference for each of you to contribute a little bit of money on a regular basis? This month, we are asking the entire TLC Farm community (which includes YOU!) to become a Friend of the Farm by giving at least $5 a month to the farm.

Think about it - $5 a month really isn't that much money to give, but does makes a big difference to TLC Farm. Here's why:

* Stability
* while our program income and other fundraising is cyclical and ebbs and flows throughout the year — regular contributions provide a reliable source of income each month to meet our financial obligations; Joy
* it feels great to give, and it feels great to receive — generosity makes everyone involved happier; Leverage
honestly, it looks good to foundations and major donors to have a solid base of regular financial supporters and helps us obtain larger donations.

Special offer:
If you sign up by BLOOM (April 26th) to become a Friend of the Farm giving between $5-10 a month, you'll receive complementary admission for you and a guest to Bloom. If you sign up to contribute $10 or more each month, you'll receive complimentary admission for you and a guest to BLOOM and the Harvest Festival (on September 14th). AND, a super special offer: if you sign up at the April 6th Open House, you'll receive the above plus go home with new plant starts grown with love by Bonsai Matt.

To become a Friend of the Farm, please sign up online for an automatic withdrawal: tryonfarm.org/donate. If you want to arrange a different style of donation, contact Jenny Leis at jenny@tryonfarm.org and she'll help you out!
Berkana Exchange

TLC Farm is honored to be invited to the Berkana Exchange Conference happening this May in Zimbabwe! Berkana Exchange facilitates connections between 13 "learning centers" located in various countries around the world: Senegal, Zimbabwe, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Greece, Canada, Mexico and Brazil. The centers all share a commitment to grassroots organizing, ecological sustainability, and healthy living and are doing inspiring work in their local communities.

Each year Berkana facilitates an Art of Learning Conference which is an opportunity for representatives from each learning center to come together and share ideas and skills, create relationships, and weave together pieces of the global puzzle. The purpose of the conference is: "To consciously, deliberately and collectively create a field of shared learning around the art of learning centering, which is the practice of hosting local spaces where people gather to explore and invent ways for communities to become healthy and resilient."

The conference this year is being held from May 4-14 at Kufunda Village, the Zimbabwean learning center. You may remember reading about Kufunda from Jenny Leis's report-back from her travels in Africa last year. To learn more about Kufunda visit www.kufunda.org or read Jenny's blog at journeydejenny.blogspot.com.

We are excited to participate and to explore the possibility of TLC Farm becoming the newest learning center, and the only center in the United States. After thoughtful consideration we have selected farm residents Hope Medford and Matt Gordon to make the journey and represent us at the conference and are preparing them to share what we are learning in Portland. Do you have things you'd like Matt and Hope to share about TLC Farm or the wider community in Portland with other Berkana centers? Questions you'd like them to ask? Ideas for them to share? Don't hesitate to email berkana@tryonfarm.org, and stay tuned for stories of their travels and learnings.

Zimbabwe benefit house party!
Join us on Sunday, April 13th from 6-10 pm to support cross-continental and cross-cultural learning, while eating Zimbabwean food, listening to great traditional Zimbabwean music, and learning more about the sustainability movement in Zimbabwe.

This benefit will support TLC Farm's involvement with the Berkana Exchange (see above) and Zimbabwean activists. TLC Farm needs to raise at least $1,000 to fund travel expenses for representatives of TLC Farm to travel to Kufunda Learning Village in May, and any funds raised in excess of travel needs will go towards helping allied activists in Zimbabwe visit TLC Farm in the future. (Note: if you can't come to the benefit, but want to make a donation to support cross-cultural sharing, please send a check or make a donation online and indicate that it is for the Berkana Learning Journey)

The benefit will include:

* a traditional Zimbabwean food for dinner, including groundnut stew, sadza, and Zimbabwean-style cooked greens;
* a slide show about Kufunda Learning Village, where TLC Farm volunteer Jenny Leis lived during her travels last year;
* great traditional Zimbabwean music by Pachi Pamwe (http://www.myspace.com/pachipamwe) and others; and
* silent auction items!

This will be a house party at 1905 NE Going St., in Portland.

$10-20 sliding scale donation. Volunteer opportunities available. Come ready to be merry! For more info please contact: mattg[at]tryonfarm.org or visit www.tryonfarm.org/share/zimbenefit.

Summer Camps at TLC Farm
This year we're hosting two unique summer camps: Drum and Rhythm Camp is back for its third year, and we're pleased to introduce the Earth Song Summer Camp, sponsored by Shining Star Waldorf School.

Common Rhythms Drum and Rhythm Camp
A note from Hope & Tynan, the camp instructors:
We are excited to invite you to our summer rhythm and drum camps filled with opportunities for children to play a variety of instruments, rhythms, and musical games from around the world in a fun, supportive environment.

Cheese making is an ancient and simple way to preserve fresh milk. We'll make two kinds of fresh, soft and delicious Farmer Cheese from scratch, taste a variety of homemade cheeses, and in the end you'll get some cultures to make your own. Why buy expensive imported cheese when you can make it yourself from local milk?

Taught by Sue Romas, farm resident and homemaking expert. Sue has already led two successful workshops to rave reviews, and continues to be really, really excited to share the joy of homemade cheese with everyone. Crackers for tasting and tea provided.

Family friendly: there will be childcare available during the workshop for a small fee, although no small children will be allowed in the kitchen due to space and safety concerns. please let us know in advance if you are needing childcare during classtime.

Food, Sex, & Death: TLC Farm's goat herd and the ethics of domestication
Sunday, April 20, 1-3pm

Animal husbandry is an ancient part of the human relationship with our ecology, providing food and shelter, labor and friendship. Many consider it an essential piece of a truly sustainable use of resources: is it more sustainable to eat industrial soy from thousands of miles away, or goats eating backyard underbrush? Yet husbandry requires a deep and thorough manipulation of the lives of sentient beings, in the interest of human benefit: forced labor, artificial breeding, castration, and slaughter.

TLC Farm volunteers on the dairy goat team have deeply, sometimes agonizingly questioned when and how to make life and death decisions about these beautiful creatures. Now, we'd like to use our experience to encourage broader debate in our community.

What should TLC Farm do? Should we keep goats at all, and a dairy herd in particular? If so, should we sell our males, or slaughter our own animals here, or castrate and keep them for other work? What kind of care and relationship is responsible to the animals, and to the land? What are the ethics involved, and what is at stake in respectfully sharing our lives with non-human animals that depend on us?

We invite animal rights activists, goat herders, permaculturists, ethicists, and everyone interested in the human relationship with our four-legged relations, to a roundtable discussion. The input and wisdom we gain here will be applied directly to decision making about husbandry at TLC Farm.

Hey all,

Poster Contest
Submissions for this year's Earth Day poster brought some great concepts to the
DANCE of the DINOSAUR! theme. A graphic designer (Simon Black - Mote Republic)
is working with these ideas and visions to create the 2008 poster.

We'll need help in early April to distribute posters and flyers all around
town. Please email me if you are interested in helping.
-------------------------
BikeEarthDay2008
The overall ride map has just been posted! 15 rides from all over Portland
converging on Overlook Park on April 19. Many of the starting points are from
the BTA's Safe Routes to Schools programs, so there will be plenty of kid safe
riding!

I recently graduated with a BA in Sustainable Community Development. I moved to Portland with the hope that I will find work doing something that helps me grow as a person and, more importantly, helps make the world a better place. I am interested in community building, green building, environmental and conservation issues, and all things sustainable. However, I have not yet been able to find gainful employment in this field. I would like to find some community groups, volunteer and job opportunities. Any ideas, suggestions, connections?
Thanks!

possibilities of getting involved in the many opportunities offered by
this kind of a celebration. Creativity is a key part of our process
and we look forward to seeing what we can create this year at Overlook
Park.

Next Earth Day meeting is:

VBC8 will include hands-on education in permaculture design and construction, ecological building, and public art! All projects are built through collaboration, community conversations and commitment of a neighborhood to strengthen itself. Projects are founded on developing strong local relationships, social capital and equity, placemaking, ecological design, supporting our local economy, and developing our city and bioregion as a network of interconnected Village Centers. Everyone is invited to attend evening events at a central location, to participate in workshops or listen to visionaries speak about various aspects of sustainable culture.

The Village Building Convergence (VBC), is part of The City Repair Project (www.cityrepair.org) Placemaking Program, fulfilling City Repair's mission to educate and inspire communities and individuals to creatively transform the places where they live. VBC is powered through an all-volunteer effort and established by partnerships between neighborhoods and local schools, government agencies, businesses, organizations and individuals. The Village Building Convergence is a statement of our combined dedication to create the world in which we want to live. At its root, VBC is about actively building our community, and realizing the strength and beauty of our power when we work and play together. By building a physical and social village infrastructure we are realizing our common visions for a lively and sustainable urban community.

In 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Cuba experienced an 'energy famine.' Transportation and agriculture virtually came to a stop due to lack of diesel fuel and fertilizer shortages. This film explores what changes were put in place. The makers of the film "The End Of Suburbia" went to Cuba to explore it as a test case for what the conditions after Peak Oil would look like. This is that story.

This documentary takes you through various aspects of life in Cuba - Economy, transportation, health-care, agriculture, education - and explores how they dealt with the dramatic reduction of fossil fuels to a mere fraction of their pre 1990 levels. It was nice to meet the people, see the sights, and hear the sounds. The overall feeling was that the Cubans had improved the quality of their life (after a difficult "Special Period"). Their health was better, greater sense of community, better food and healthier land. I was left with the question: Why should we wait until we run out of oil? Let's do it now. The part that I did not expect was how it challenged my understanding of the difference between a Communist country and Capitalism. Did you know that a greater percentage of Cubans own their own home than in America? More farmers now own their own land? Sort of turns the notion of what a "Free-Market" is on its head! Check it out

Cuba: The Accidental Revolution are two one-hour documentaries celebrating the country’s success in providing for itself in the face of a massive economic crisis, and how it’s latest revolutions, an agricultural revolution and a revolution in science and medicine are having repercussions around the world.

Cuba: The Accidental Revolution (Part 1), airing Sunday, July 30 at 7 P.M. on CBC Television, examines Cuba’s response to the food crisis created by the collapse of the Soviet Bloc in 1989. At one time Cuba’s agrarian culture was as conventional as the rest of the world. It experienced its first “Green Revolution” when Russia was supplying Cuba with chemical and mechanical “inputs.” However, the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1989 ended all of that, and almost overnight threw Cuba’s whole economic system into crisis. Factories closed, food supplies plummeted. Within a year the country had lost over 80% of its foreign trade. With the loss of their export markets and the foreign exchange to pay for imports, Cuba was unable to feed its population and the country was thrown into a crisis. The average daily caloric intake of Cubans dropped by a third.

Without fertilizer and pesticides, Cubans turned to organic methods. Without fuel and machinery parts, Cubans turned to oxen. Without fuel to transport food, Cubans started to grow food in the cities where it is consumed. Urban gardens were established in vacant lots, school playgrounds, patios and back yards. As a result Cuba created the largest program in sustainable agriculture ever undertaken. By 1999 Cuba’s agricultural production had recovered and in some cases reached historic levels.
In Cuba: The Accidental Revolution (Part 2), airing Sunday, August 6 at 7 P.M. on CBC Television, we learn that the country has been blockaded since 1961, but today Cuba has the highest quality of life in the region, the highest life expectancy, and one of the highest literacy rates in all of Latin America.

With the collapse of the Soviet Bloc, Cuba lost the foreign exchange needed to pay for expensive drugs and medicines. As a result, much of Cuba’s medicine today is based on medicinal plants. These are grown on farms, processed in small labs and made available to patients through an extensive network of medical clinics. Today Cuba’s advances in alternative medicine could have important consequences for other countries around the world.

Cuba boasts other firsts as well: The Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Havana is regarded as the flagship biosciences lab in the developing world. Cuban scientists are working on an HIV vaccine, a meningitis vaccine, a Hepatitis C vaccine, and other pharmaceuticals.

Cuba has also embarked on a program of medical internationalism. There are 25,000 Cuba doctors serving in 68 poor countries around the world. The Latin American School of Medical Science has 10,000 students from developing countries primarily in Latin America and the Caribbean. They are educated for free with the understanding they will return to their home countries to practice.

Fidel Castro has survived many perils and at 78, he is rumoured to suffer from a number of afflictions. As his health declines the world wonders: what will become of Cuba’s Green Revolution after he is gone? Even now Castro presides over a political system, which although socialist, has an economy where bartering and quasi-entrepreneurial practice seemingly influence many trades and professions, including the “green” sector. There is also ever-increasing pressure from Canada and European nations for the U.S. to come to terms with Cuba’s political dissent

Am I Slandering Howl?---a space for dialog to express and release emotions
So recently I made a posting inviting you all to Ghost Dance this Saturday. It is a Psytrance masquerade the same night as Howl. In my post I commented on some padt event aspects of Howl that are all based on facts. Such as, it's a crowded drunk people party that you have to pay too much for just to dance like Sardines. Anyways, some in the community feel I've slandered Howl and City Repair and have asked me for an explanation. So here goes....

Dear City Reparians and Howl Promoters,

Thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts and emotions about this to me. I'm sorry you feel that I am used slander to advertise my event. That is not my intention nor my actions. Yes, I did use Howl's name in my advertisement and I did say things about Howl that can be construed as negative by some but I also only said things about Howl that are true. It is Super croded, it is a super drunk party and you do pay a bunch to feel like a sardine. The big difference between what I said being slander or not is simply that everything I said is true. And everything I said was all in good fun. The party we are throwing is an all Psytrance event whereas Howl has no Psytrance at it so these two parties are already catering to different crowds. We just want to share with others that there is another consciousness raising event happening. As far as your other point goes with Howl and how it effects City Repair, that is a serios issue of contention too. Personally, living in Portland and being closer to what's going on has given many in this community cause for concern about City Repair. Did you know it has been dissolved all except for two people? And the two people remaining are money focused mnot community focused. All the light workers in City Repair have been shaken out of the project and it is now nothing but a shadow of it's former self. So there are a bunch of us here asking why is City Repair going to get a bunch of money that they have said will not go to the VBC (which is the biggest positive influence that City Repair participates in) ....so where is this $$ going....what's the intentions beind it all now? It certainly seems from an insider perspective to have a lot of shit going down. Now if I was trying to slander, I may have publicly posted all that too but I didn't. Instead I just made a joke based on facts and used it to stir people into action. Sorry if it was received the wrong way. I'm posting this message on my blog so people can have a place to dialog together about this.

Blessings,
Amaya

P.S. I really do hope HOWL is fantastic.

P.P.S. Anyone who knows me knows I am al heart and all for oneness and community connection. We've got a lot to worry about if we can't poke good fun at eachother in order to highlight a truth. I'm truly sorry that others feel I am slandering them but I indeed am not. Rather I would ask you to take this opportunity to examine why you feel so upset? Has my exposure of these aspects of Howl perhaps pointed out something that seems off balance to your Spirit. I find when I throw events where the politics become cloudy and the intentions good but confused, that manifests itself because of confusion in the community. That should be addressed head on at the root. I am simply the symptom of confusion becoming questioning.....maybe we can question what we're all doing here with these events and what we really wwant to pour or energy into.

Again also I gotta say I only have respect for Howl and I know we'll all have a good time no matter where we are...I'm actually planning o go to Howl, Ghost Dance and then drive to Eugene to dance the Sunrise with you all..

Does anyone have access to the Screenprinting Supplies?

HI there...
I am still trying to retrieve a screen that i lent to the VBC efforts...
I need to get it back to begin a new wave of projects, but have been unable to gain access to it.
After numerous efforts, I am now appealing to those who may find this message on Tribe.
Could anyone who has access to the screen-printing supplies for City Repair contact me
so that i can arrange to retrieve the screen? It sounds petty, but i am not financially able to keep buying new screens
when new ones don't come back to me...
thank you vastly and with black sesame on top

This is 8 years of Burning Man folks and from what I've seen and heard this one feels good.

Hi Tribe,
I have been asked to help produce a 9 day natural building/permaculture event on a new piece of land just south of the Baja border.
I am looking for feedback on all aspects including value, interest and curriculum.
please respond to scottankenypdx@gmail.com
Here are the details...

Oct 27 – Nov 4

Imagine a revolutionary oasis built with your very own hands
as you exercise in natural building and whole system design principles.

Imagine a community of passionate people learning what it means to be human beings,
immersed in an environment of self-expression, of listening, and of appreciation,
while they build beautifully and sustainably.

Introducing GiraSol (Sunflower), a new permaculture settlement breaking ground in November 2007. We invite you to be a part of this amazing experience by participating in a nine-day course designed to bring you competency in Permaculture and Earthen Building Methods.

Imagine yourself as part of that community…Living. Building. Playing.

This nine-day intensive design/build studio will combine natural building techniques (cobb, adobe, stone, straw/clay, passive/active heating systems) with presentations, discussions, exercises, and fun field trips.

GiraSol’s ground-breaking workshop will provide training in regenerative village design, natural construction and permaculture theory while establishing the GiraSol information center through hands-on work. The design will integrate a century-old adobe structure into a whimsical new building, seemingly sprung from the canvas of a Maxfield Parrish painting.

Led by mOceaN (Mark Lakeman), Lydia Doleman and Martin Shulke of Portland’s City Repair Project, the GiraSol Intensive will take place from 10/27/07 to 11/04/07. We will be camping as a group in the beautiful Baja desert, and all meals will be provided.

Basics

Location: GiraSol is a 200-acre parcel situated in Valle de las Palmas (Valley of the Palms), about 20 miles south of the U.S./Mexico Border and 30 miles from the Pacific Ocean between the major cities of Tijuana, Ensenada & Tecate. This new Center is on a vast tract of beautiful land in the valley, along a road from Ensenada to Tecate which is currently under construction. This road will bring unprecedented real estate development to this relatively undisturbed agrarian area. GiraSol strives to be a jewel in the Baja landscape by providing an example of sustainable community design.

Course Description: You will receive training AND become competent in the following areas:

1. regenerative village design and earthen building methods
2. biomass accumulation and use, plastering
3. roof framing
4. integrated landscaping
5. water catchment, re-use, and finishing methods.

Construction will be accompanied by discussions of the ecological features and benefits of each building phase. Through two field trips we will explore the local community by travelling to a wildlife preserve and taking part in Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
