NEW VIDEO SITE - Design feedbacks

I don't post to my group a lot, but when I do, that is when I can really use the help of the community.
So recently, my friends and I started a service called www.uberchannel.com.
It is a small project that I have worked on with a couple friends. We just did a silent launch and would like to see what the designers think of the UI and how we can improve our site.

You can give your respond via video (yes, you can praise us or tell us how much we suck in full motion video) @
www.uberchannel.com/channel/50

But pls take a look @ the site first so the feedbacks will be constructive and we will do EVERYTHING we can to improve!

Thanks!

Help !! Form handling is driving me insane !!

HELP !!!!!!!!

I've been trying to figure out how to conduct some simple form handling for MONTHS, and it's driving me crazy!!!

I use DreamweaverMX, on a OSX Mac, with Interland hosting. I know how to create a form in DM, but I get stuck with all the FormMail vs. CGI vs. ASP vs. whatever else crap. The big hurdle is that I DO NOT CODE. I understand the idea, but everytime I look at a .cgi script, my head starts to swim.

Can someone PLEASE give me some concrete suggestions about sending forms to my e-mail address!!!

Thanks!

I everyone, I am new to web production... I am a print person... I have been asked to update a portion of our website, I have avoided web work like the plague. I can't avoid it any longer... Not that I wouldn't mind learning...

I need help. I am trying to learn how to make an animated GIF without flash. I have access to dreamweaver, photoshop and imageready.

I created a quicky in Imageready. I have three images that I want to fade into one another and then loop back to the beginning. The initial GIF i created in image ready was 19 frames... It was super fast. I slowed it down by increasing the frames... it is a 1mb file... way too big.

I made the images 72ppi and saved them as GIFs with 256 color palette (I also tried 128 color palette, not much of a size difference).

The end product measures 432p x 583p: Selective, 128 Colors, 100% Diffusion Dither, 47 frames, Transparency on, No Transparency Dither, Non-Interlaced, 0% Web S

Please help.

I wanted to get some feedback from web designers/producers/etc....

1. Do you work alone? With a small group? Within a company?
2. Do you consider usability/user experience when designing sites?
3. Do you feel you possess the right skills to make choices concerning usability/user experience?
4. Have you ever sought someone with those specific skills?

The reason I'm asking is that I want to become a usability consultant. I've been reading a lot about website marketing, etc. and want to hear from folks who would be potential clients about what they think and what they might look for.

I'm not asking for a critique of a website or anything like that, just your thoughts on those skills, if you would find them useful, and how you would go about finding/buying those skills.

Thanks!
Ron

VIDEO_TS to Quicktime

I'm looking for the simplest way to convert a VIDEO_TS file into a Quicktime movie. I had no idea it would be so - well - indirect. I've been peruising all sorts of message boards, downloaded DVD2oneX.1, DVDBackup, OSEx, etc... but still no (clear to me) way to go.....
This DVD is simply a home-movie-style video of my friend rapping about mushroom identification. Apparently its encoded or copy protected? He wants it included on his website, so I wanna turn it intop a tiny QT movie.
Keep in mind that I'm no genius when it comes to web production, I'm just learning as I go, on MAC OSX.
THANKs

We're looking for great user profile designs -- tribe.net is going to release a new feature that will let users apply custom styles to their own profiles, and we'd like to feature user-created styles.

If you're a CSS-savvy designer, submit your template concepts (custom graphics, fonts, layout) to profiledesign@tribe.net by April 1st. We'll pick the best designs and feature them in our style library, which every tribe.net user will see. If selected, your design will be credited with your name, which will be linked to your user profile. The very best design will also win an iPod shuffle.

Find out more about the contest by checking out the Profile Design Contest tribe:

http://profiledesign.tribe.net/

I'll be answering questions there, as well as posting some of my own template concepts.

Good luck!

hi there ~

(this is a cross post with the Web Design tribe, please simply disregard if you have aready seen it)

i'm looking into sites maintenance and content management tools, and i'd love to hear what you think about Contribute 2... Seems pretty good, based on Macromedia's site!

and $79/license seem a reasonable price... but (and forgive me if that is a dumb question) does that mean that all my _potential_ clients need to _each_ buy their own license in order for them to update their site?? (or do I, somehow, delegate administrator rights from my own desktop app instance)

what else is out there?

Thank you much in advance for the tech feedback,
c.

SWF Animation to Animated GIF

Hi All,

I have a CSS site and I wanted to turn a jpg image I had into a flash animation. I built the animation and exported as SWF. I tried the obvious in my style sheet.

background:#555040 url(my_animation.swf) no-repeat top left;

This did not work, of course, but I realized that an animated GIF would work. My site has many different design sheets and I don't want to hard code any flash stuff in to the HTML. I want to keep design separated from content.

Does anyone know of a program that will take a SWF and convert it to an animated GIF?

Thanks

CSS Z-index Revisited + More <div> confusion . . .

Hello again,

As you might notice in the page I have here - z-index is a crucial part of the design. So far I can't really get Stylemaster z-index to have any effect on the page. I'd like to be able to control the z-index via the style sheet.

I am doing the HTML in Adobe Go Live. I don't find myself using the layout editor much, but instead I am working with its HTML editing tools. This is alright, but Go Live seems to somehow generate 2 types of <div> tags - a "floating box" that comes with a z-index and is editable in the layout editor, and a div tag that has no discernible form in the layout, and has no z-index. In the script these two different divs appear exactly the same.

How I can gain more control over z-index within HTML - is there a tag I should know?

Thanks,
David

<div> positioning problem?

Hi,

In using CSS I find that it frequently will not style a <div> tag. That seems abnormal. What I have to do is position the element within the div tag, and the div tag doesn't necessarily get positioning at all. If I just position via the div tag then it will look fine in the preview or in the browser until I hit a link and then it jumps to another position on the page - very annoying!

http://www.normal-design.com/Odditorium/css-odd-index04.html

I must be doing something wrong . . . any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks to everyone who helped me with their advice earlier.

I did indeed download "Stylemaster" and have been using it to put together the following webpage:

http://www.normal-design.com/Odditorium/css-odd-index04.html

This page reads fine in Safari, but in IE 5.2 Mac it draws a blank, same problem in Camino. the Stylemaster compatibility checker says that everything is OK for every browser the program checks for (I think Camino is not one of them, but anyway . . . ).

Anyone know why this might not read right?

Thanks,
David

Hi,

I'm working on a webpage using a premade javascript pop up menu (ipop from imint) and I want to integrate this with script triggers to make images appear on mouseover. I think this is a common design element, but i don't know how to put it together.

You can see my effort here:

http://www.normal-design.com/Odditorium/showroom1.html

(the images are supposed to appear in the arch on the stage)

If anyone can advise me on how to script this I would appreciate it.

Also is javascript the best way to handle this problem?

Thanks,
David

I want to post questions to which people have to type in the correct answer before they can proceed to the next question. It would be a long succession of questions.

Any thoughts on how to accomplish that on web pages?

CSS question

I'm trying to style the leftnav for a page. Because the font of the logo is specialized, I wanted to use images for the links so that they would be in the same font (services, products, etc.) so that I could have a down state and a hover state.

I originally did it as background images in the a:hover etc styles. BUT that left me no navigation in the html itself (I used just a "." that I colored white between the anchor tags). This leaves it unaccessible to users who turn off style sheets and other mobile devices that don't support css.

So, how do I get my snazzy buttons to work and be accessible at the same time?

The page I'm referring to is www.softerware.net/bonlie/homepage.html

Thanks!

Anyone know of a good Mac application for browsing through large numbers of large image files. I'm talking something that will rip through 100's of huge RAW image files (10+ MB) and generate previews on-the-fly. OS X's native preview isn't fast enough, nor does it generate preview images/thumbnails that are large enough to actually make decisions based on image quality.

Basically, this would be an application for reviewing photos for print publication -- no retouching or even cropping. The most one would do is rotate 90 degrees.

Sexy Dork Survey Posted

Hi, I finished and posted the Sexy Dork Survey, and need some people to help me fill in some statistics. This is the first part of making a test, this is not the actual test itself.

I was wondering if you could just visit the site, and fill out the survey to give me a base for statistics for the site. Later I will post a test based on these answers.

The survey collects your opinion, then later a test can use this data to calculate your Sexy Dorkiness based on everyone elses opinion.

www.sonicspeedsters.com/other/...test/d_y0.php

After I get about 20+ people filling out the survey, I will post the actual test. This is just the data-acquisition phase so don't expect anything spectacular on the webpage.

Please let me know if the survey fucks up or if there should be additional questions on the survey.
